The present state of electric cars is such:

While it is true that the Tesla can drive very spritely...there is a caveat;

Chemical batteries can not carry enough energy in a small enough/light enough package so that the car can have a range comparable to internal combustion.

The game changer for electric cars will be the development of a superconducting torus that operates at the temperature of liquid nitrogen or above (liquid helium is too expensive), and that can be installed under the hood of a car.  This device will allow the storage of energy in densities comparable to a tank of gasoline.  Such a car would have driving characteristics and range indistinguishable from a gas car.

It will probably also sound like a blender.

tried a couple of them: good impression as far as torque is concerned but would be suitable for city use only, no longer distances.
Better option in my opinion is still a turbocharged diesel: lots of torque, low fuel consumption.

I do not know which car is it, guess it's not imported in Italy.
My 3.0 L Audi is a turbocharged diesel, fuel consumption is ok and it's quick and confy, but above all you can't plan to go in my opinion very far from home in an electric car.
Maybe in the future this will change, but not for now.

no point before it's really reliable, as with all technologies. First persons to get into the bandwagon are often ending with shity products and late , more patients buyers finally join in if it's really better than what existed before.

Hybrids of quality manufacturers are solid. Tesla model S and Nissan Leaf have very few problems (German magazines will publish if there's anything wrong with those)

Toyota/Lexus hybrids are more reliable than most diesels. (High tech diesels are complicated and vulnerable: egr, soot particle filters, turbo problems, chip tuning, etc). Petrol engines with one or two turbo's offer the same torque advantages as a diesel.
