I love dairy especially cheese but have heard from people who have given it up that their health has benefited in several ways. I believe a lot of it has to do with estrogen ??? Has anyone here ever given up dairy permanently or temporarily? What were the results? Thinking of trying 30 days to see if I notice any difference.
-
If I quit dairy I look somewhat leaner, less water retention. Health effects? no clue.
-
Will never give up dairy.
Ice cream and cheese are staples of my diet :) I love both.
-
If you really want to become healthy. Johnny Falcon recommends giving up heme iron.
-
Traditional dairy in the American diet is pretty much shit. Prob a wise move.
Unless you can get your hands on some raw milk from a dairy farm

Whole Foods used to sell it. I would always only have that. However, they stopped selling it due to the high amounts of "bacteria"
I was devastated.

What a bummer :(

Heme dairy - avoid at all cost! :D
On a more serious note...
half a glass of high quality milk in the morning - try it.

The only diary I have is half-fat milk with my oatmeal in the mornings, because I don't like oatmeal with water.
I've never liked cheese and don't eat eggs either (if that counts as dairy). Do like ice-cream though so I could never give that up.
Does whey protein powder count as dairy seeing as it's derived from the cheese-making process?
-
Whey protein is pretty much as dairy as you can get lol. If you cook milk in a saucepan eventually you will be able to remove the whey off the top of it!

True Adonis isnt going to like this thread.
However, I generally feel less grotty when not drinking milk.

This, plus less stomach issues and more energy.

I went the other way. I was dairy free until I moved to germany where I've spent the last 5 years eating organic grass fed dairy products in the form of yoghurt, butter, cream and occasionally milk.
I've developed lipomas on my head since coming here. None of the doctors who cut them out think it has anything to do with the dairy food (they think everyone should eat diary anyway), but it's the only major change in my diet I can think of.
I also get more sinus problems since moving here - but it's also a lot colder than Australia so who knows? I try and avoid it but it's hard in this country.
-
Gave it up for a few weeks, but got very cranky. Didn't notice any health benefits, but never had trouble digesting dairy products.
-
There will never be a fit all answer to this.
Seems to depend on the individual's digestive system and sensitivites etc, whether you can handle a lot of dairy in your diet (organic/non organic/raw etc).
I've never had a problem digesting dairy, so it doesnt slow me down or anything, but I have pals who drink milk and get stomach cramps so I guess just do what works for you.
Shame if you cant tolerate dairy as milk is a great way to get steady protein throughout the day. I drink about 3-4 pints of full fat milk per day, and just eat less carbs to balance out the extra calories/lactose i'm getting.
-
My stomach handles dairy just fine and I love the stuff. Just been hearing people talk about how much better they do without it. I think I might try a 30 day dairy free to see if I notice anything.

Would love to be the creamy whey on top of your boiled milk.
-
You don't need it. So why bother with it, given the downsides (sodium, fat, etc.).
-
Cut it out for 1-2 weeks, and then have a couple of servings of dairy. If you feel like shit/notice any ill effects, you're intolerant to it and would do well to avoid it. If you don't notice anything, you're probably fine with it
Personally, it does seem to make me hold water.... usually a sign of intolerance but whey/yogurt is so Damn convenient

Don`t do it. Its pointless. You will miss out on too many good foods.

Maybe you should read Walter Willett before making stupid claims like these.

I'm leaning towards your advice. Highly doubt I could give up dairy forever. But an experiment for a few weeks to see if it's different without it won't hurt.
-
I get mucus buildup from dairy. Too bad I love cheese. I'll never give up pizza.

Exactly, and yes you can, I did the same 1.5 year ago. Sometimes, maybe once per month or two months I consume some dairy, like pancakes or milk in my coffee.
-
I'm lactose but as long as I eat strictly "drier" cheeses like sharp cheddar I'm good to go. I've eaten high protein, high to moderate fat, and low to no carbs for the past year and I'm in the best shape of my life.
That includes at least a pound or two of cheese a week. I love it.
-
I have no problems with dairy. Cottage cheese is one of my main protein sources. I think it's highly individual.
I love dairy...it's quick, convenient, and tasty.
And ice cream/pizza is one of my favorite things to cheat on.
-
I consume ZERO dairy. Haven't for several years
Between Almond Milk, Earth Balance Butter, and all the other dairy free products it's easy.
Dairy makes me sick and congested and clearly breaks my face out within 24 hours.
-
50% of the Western population have inflammation because of dairy...Sinus problems is a main concern with these people...

Isn't Whey full of estrogens?

Dairy? How about carbohydrates if you wanna talk inflammation!

processed sugar is the absolute king of inflammation
followed closely by carbs and gluten
in my opinion

Well that was pointless, now wasn`t it.
People are just ruled by the Placebo effect and nothing else.

I agree, never cut it out intentionally.
Just never fancied it for a while, this thread made me think of it and realise it never made a blind bit of difference.
-
Cut it out 2 1/2 years ago. No sinus problems anymore, no congestion anymore!
