Great competitor, would have been better still but for his pec tear.  His training methods were extreme to say the least.  A sad loss.

Johnny Fuller was cool... a hell raiser too. Solid martial artist and not afraid to mix it up. Lots of muscle and crazy vascularity.

I think i read somewhere that he had very odd dietary habits. I have the 1985 olympia on tape and its was the year of his comeback post tear and instead of saying "comeback" the announcer (who had difficulties pronouncing english since he was belgium i think) he said "scumbag". Incredible back and abdominal development

blood cancer.....yikes!

You don't get cancer of the blood. You get cancer in the lymphatic nodes and marrow, which affect the ability of your body to produce healthy blood. The most common types are leukemia and lymphoma.  This is sometimes called "blood cancer" but it's not really cancer of the blood.

Geeze...  I just saw this thread a few minutes ago...  What a shock...

I remember when Johnny won the light heavy class at the 1980 World Championships.  He beat amateur sensation Bronson Austin of the US, whom many thought would win, and went on to become a fixture in the top 5 of IFBB pro competitions for the next few years until his pec tear derailed his pro career somewhat.

Gonzo bodybuilding journalist Rick Wayne jokingly nicknamed Fuller "Johnny Revolta" because of his, ahhhh, "unique" looks.  Wayne also once remarked of Fuller's powerful build, that he wouldn't bet against Johnny if he said he could knock down the Sistine Chapel (or perhaps it was some other old cathedral) with his bare hands.

Johnny was a colorful character and a definite icon of his era in bodybuilding.

RIP :'(

I have an old issue of MuscleRag right here with a Zulak article on him. 80 sets on arm days, 14000 calories a day from different foods each day, he'd starve himself sunday then begin his binge agian. INSANE.

Yeah, and drank a gallon of cow's blood a day.

Why people read the magazines is beyond me.

Don't know about the 80 sets arm thing but if I remember right he would do 32 reps each set for whatever muscle group he was working, nothing less than that. . He never did direct ab exercises but worked them from the inside out. So I'm assuming that he did those martial arts exercises or Yoga exercises (both muscle control exercises), it was never quite clear what he really did.  Got this info from some of the old muscle mags, so there may be a grain of truth about his training somewhere in there. Hard to tell what's myth & what's fact in those old BS magazines (today's are worse). Any way, a metabolism like his was one in a billion, probably had to eat quite a bit each day to keep his bwt/muscle mass up to that high level. Lot's of guy's back in the day would mix dry liver powder in a blender, adding water only. That could gag a maggot.

Another warrior bites the dust.  RIP  Hope he didn't suffer too much.  Cancer kills slowly, that's the worst part of it for you and all your loved ones. >:(  With all the $$$ we're blowing on crazy shit like bombs, why can't we get more aggressive and find a way to stop this killer. ???
