So I can't help but notice the Martinez gentleman on every channel at nearly all times, giving seemingly prepared speeches, very forcefully instructing us that "it's time" to further restrict gun ownership.
Does anyone else think it's highly inappropriate for media to focus itself in such a way? Personally, I'm offended that they treat us like this.

Yes, it's sickening
It's pretty obvious that their goal is pushing an agenda and manipulating public opinion. If you want news you have to go online.

Yes. People need to understand this.
The ways of the media, that everyone agrees are completely fucked, are always excused/explained by the "push-pull" concept, meaning that they're giving us what we want in order to somehow make more money.
That is 100% bullshit. They are doing exactly as you say: pushing an agenda by manipulating opinion. Compare the potential prize from that, versus trying to seek a measly profit from such an unoriginal, repetitive product.
There are so few entities now that control all these fucking worthless channels, and just as the entities look exactly alike, so do the channels. Big wonder, huh?
I've had it.

You've had it?
What are you gonna do about it?

I'm not so sure the message is important at all. I think the tv folks are like, "Oh, an aggrieved father who WANTS the spotlight? -- Hells yes folks will watch that!!"
How'd the lyric from the old Don Henley's song go, "It's interesting when people die..."

Of course - as he's making political speeches. So do you sense a connection, or not?

Sure but, as always, potential ratings (as determined by some calloused mofo's) seems to be the motivation to me.
That the visibly grieving (I saw the dude crying while speaking in one of these things) parent of a just murdered kid is talking about a controversial political topic is just icing on the cake. There's probably someone in the newsroom who's already said that it's too bad the dad isn't in a gay marriage...

What should an editor who is under pressure for ratings do?
crappy what our news has become.

Looking forward to commercials with the stars calling for Car Control and Knife Control. Oh wait-a murder only counts as murder if it was a bullet that killed them ::)

So when you say this:
I'm not so sure the message is important at all.
Under circumstances where a grieving father might explicitly and convincingly separate the event from gun-ownership laws (while still being quite dramatic about, say, neglectful parenting), do you think he might be promoted in this way?
