Title: Safety Razors
Post by: visualizeperfection on June 20, 2014, 05:31:42 PM
Do any getbiggers utilize safety razors to shave their movie star faces with?

I am sick of getting ingrowns in the neck area... I heard that these non gimmick single blade razors are the tits.

I shaved with a straight razor for a while.  It takes forever to do a good job and I ruined the blade the first time I tried to sharpen it.  I'll stick with disposables.

Thats pretty legit. You could also use it to take out a #hater or a neegul that has caused you disrespect at wal mart.

Straight razor can be nice. You need a soap stone and a strop.

I use this style safety razor. I use once and throw away, you can probably get away with 2 shaves if you'd like. Comes out to 11 cents per use, which you can't beat with a mach 3 or schick. http://www.amazon.com/Shark-Double-Safety-Blades-Chrome/dp/B003BWQX46/ref=sr_1_28?ie=UTF8&qid=1403316154&sr=8-28&keywords=safety+razor

They key is to either take a hot shower or take a hot towel either put a wet cloth towel in a microwave for about 30 seconds until it's steaming a bit or run in under hot tap water to put on your face. You want to open up your pores. Put the towel on your face for a good 60 seconds.

This gives you a closer shave and eliminates razor burn and bumps.

Get one of these brushes http://www.amazon.com/Escali-100%25-Badger-Shaving-Brush/dp/B003WR3QSG/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1403316338&sr=8-17&keywords=safety+razor

And a nice shaving cream ...I currently like this one, it's a good old fashioned masculine scent

Makes shaving very enjoyable. No homo.

I keep a couple of straight razors and a Gillette TTO Speed Tech.  The straight razors are great if you need a really precise line and such. They are delicate, and require a decent amount of maintenance.

The old Twist To Open type do a nice job, and are cheap as far as blades go. The most important thing I've found is just to tighten them down realistically tight, and replace the blades when they slow down and require to much pull to cut.

Merkur, Parker, and Jagger make fine examples in the $25 - 50 range. Older Gillettes are usually in the $10 -100 depending on luck, condition and collectibility.

I just use the Personna (100/$ 15) blades, you can buy fancier blades, but I've never noticed anything better about them.

Do you think it is easier on the neckline than standard 3,000 razor disposables?

Yes, I'd rate it the same or a tiny bit better than a good disposable. The best shave bar none, is with a straight in my opinion, but that is more of a luxury because of prep, etc.... than an every day shave.

Can't be bothered to care.

I just get into the shower, grab whatever razor is there (usually the wife has shaved her legs with it), and just do a wet shave on the face with the water from the shower head.

I have skin like a rhino's hide. Great when you get punched, or shave. Not so great if you want to look young and dashing.

wait, youre supposed to be shaving with something other than glass and youre supposed to use water or some sort of discharge like cream?

I switched to a safety razor about 6 months ago, one of the best moves i've made....skin is never irritated now.  Get the badger-hair brush and shave cream, its worth it. 100 high quality blades for 20 bucks, cant beat it....

exfoliate before shaving. has already mentioned, shave after showering. switch the shitty modern shaving gel/foam in a can for a good traditional shaving soap/cream.

i tell you what helped me a lot. rinsing with cold water after a shave. i noticed a big improvement with my skin afterwards.

this site is essential for all men...

After you shave lightly rub your finger over your deodorant then rub it on your neck area where you get the ingrowns.

...seriously it works....taught to me by a stripper girlfriend who said that's what they do to prevent ingrowns when they shave their privates  ;D

I had horrible ingrown hairs but I started using bump patrol right after shaving and the problem went away.  I also dont try to use a razor past its prime.  The sharper the razor the better.

Stypic pens or swabs are awesome for cuts.

Stypic pens and some deodorants contain the same ingredient, aluminum sulfate.    Aluminum sulfate is a vasoconstricter.

What's the difference in operation between a safety razor and a disposable?  A sharp metal thing secured at a fixed angle to another thing that has a handle attached to it.

I can use a Mach 3 head for six months.  It's tempered steel ffs.  My hair isn't going to blunt it.  You people Turkish or something?  What kind of piano wire shit you grow that dulls good steel?

I shave after a shower and use el cheapo moisturizer instead of shaving crap.  HTH other men in their 30s and 40s who are still getting to the bottom of this whole shaving business.
