Euan Blair (Son of...yes you guessed it)
“He is known principally for being found inebriated in Leicester Square as a teenager, having a flat purchased by his mother for use while a student at Bristol University and having his appendix removed.”
After graduating with an unspectacular 2:1 in Ancient History from Bristol in 2005, the typical graduate life of struggle and drudgery did not befall Euan. The money and connections kicked in.
In 2005, he spend two months interning at a French radio station owned by France’s richest man, Bernard Arnault – a sometime private guest of the Prime Minister at his country house, Chequers.
A year later he landed another internship working for Republican politicians in Washington DC.
“The former Prime Minister’s son spent his time making photocopies and helping to set up hearings for the committee – ‘just general intern-type duties’, according to a spokesman.”
I am sure having the surname ‘Blair’ was no help at all. After another few weeks interning for Democrats, Euan left to pursue an MA… but not just any MA, an MA at Yale with a scholarship of £50,000.
This came as some surprise to other Yale students, who had no recollection of such a grant being made to a postgraduate before, particularly one with an unspectacular 2: 1 in ancient history. Maybe it was the internships that swayed it?
And now what for our well connected friend? He is about to begin a 30grand graduate traineeship with Morgan Stanley, where his father’s former right-hand man, Jonathan Powell, is a top executive.
If you're son/daughter says I want to join the army, remember by doing so you become at the bottom of the food chain in the cycle powered by the ruling class.

Here's another interesting read:

Nepotism, who would have thought it.
-
The harsh reality is
If you come from a privileged back ground
Your life will be a million times easier
Than if you grew up on a council estate
It's the thing I hate most about Britain
-
Bit out of date. He's now looking to become a Labour MP.

In a way this is the silliest thing you've ever written.
1) the UK is MUCH more accessible to people climbing the ladder than 99% of other countries
2) if you come from a privileged background life then more doors are open (not quite the same as easier) in ALL countries.
The US has exactly the same old boy network that we do, it is just slightly newer money and fewer titles.
Try making it in France / Italy / Spain without contacts and family friends. It is much harder than the UK.
Russia...China...all the same.

TBH its no different than a guy working in a shoe shop getting his son a job at the same place.
Nepotism happens everywhere.
Who wouldnt do everything possible to get their son a foothold in life?
I have had jobs given to me on a nod and a wink
Its not what you know its who you know.

I'm not going to engage honest Bob
If you can't debate without cheap jibes
How many of the countries leaders fit the stereotype
Rich privileged white kid right school right connections
It's irrefutable

- Q) What did the Republican say to the United States Marine who just returned from a mission that won him a Medal of Honor?
- A) “Now that you’re finished with that, the greens on the back nine need mowing.”

I dont think we are actually being led anywhere, as individuals we are all pretty much free to do whatever we like, as long as we dont upset other people.
No ones really in charge, we just all muddle along as a collective trying to get away with whatever we can as individuals.

Bigmc has a point
If you're an aspiring politician for example, having been educated in Eton College you would fare A LOT better than some kid from New Castle.
The class system is not as bad as some other countries, this I agree on, but there's many countries who do better than us i.e. Scandinavians are far more equal when it comes to progress and opportunities for kids from all backgrounds.

Tony would rather meet you in the toilets, thats why he was arrested for cottaging in his early politician days.

Can't argue with a well constructed analytical argument like that

Most intelligent post I've seen written on this site.

Its the same over here brother.
I think its just in a different form, although there are a lot more policies and laws that help with equal hiring and promotional practice.
I for one cant really complain. If it wasnt for connections I made through family and sports etc. I wouldnt be where I was today. I cant be a hypocrite.

No, he used 'led' twice in the same sentence.
Brutal Theasaurus usage ;D

Agreed, I think using the same word twice cancels out the use of the word in that it means something contrary to the original meaning.
I think. ???

You already use punctuation very well through this gimmick. The moment you start using it on the bigmc account, I know my days are numbered. ;D

Its not what you know its who you know.
And sometimes - what you know about who you know.
There's no level playing field in the UK, US or anywhere else. The UK is actually much more level than many parts of the US though.
I used to work in Knoxville, TN. For a company that made testing machines for the textiles industry. There was 1 single black guy working there - one of the field service engineers.
Over a chat with one of the directors, I asked about equality there and how you didn't see many blacks in offices there. Yet, walk into any car wash, McDonalds or KFC and it was entirely staffed by African Americans. This woman looked at me and said "Oh, No - they have exactly the same opportunity as anyone else". Yup - they CHOOSE to work in KFC. OK - gotcha.
I'd personally do what I could to get my son a good start in life. I would sincerely hope that he would make a better choice than to enter politics or banking through a major US/UK school because let's face it - most of the people that go that route are total cnuts anyway. Whether they start off that way is debatable.

You guys are fa66ots, I prefer pre 1900s England...
Most of you belong in the coal mines of Wales. Visualize F. Neegars and myself would be Lords, your wives would be the maids in our manor houses.
