Title: Time off from the gym messing up my joints
Post by: El Diablo Blanco on November 04, 2014, 09:45:10 AM
I never liked the idea of resting from the gym, seems counter intuitive but time off tends to make me feel worse than if I just continue working out.  I have taken the last two months off for numerous reasons and in the last month, my knee has started to act up and unless I am moving the moment I get out of bed or sit up from a chair I get serious pains in it.  never happened before and nothing in the last month happened to aggravate it.  My shoulders feel tight, my back hurts.  Sitting out of the gym has actually made me feel worse.  I really think time of is just a lazy excuse but it serves no purpose.  Once the machine is humming it doesn't make sense to stop it.

How about just deloading every 3-4 weeks.

As a hardcore trainer I have my share of aches and pains, warm up is your best friend 15 min cardio to get the body warm then start off with light weights for high reps to warm up then increase the weight as you go along.

Invest some money in joint supplements it will be the best investment you make for your body, get the following

glucosamine chondroitin
collagen
msm
cissus quadrangularis
fish oil

If you can get on a cycle of deca that would help greatly just add some test to fight against the deca dick.

Same thing happens to me if I'm not active for 3-4 days, I'm not sure how you managed to make it 2 months.  Assuming you work a desk job, working out in the gym is probably the only thing keeping you flexible.  You're most likely stiff as a board, which is throwing your joints out of whack.

Taking time off from the gym doesn't mean that you should become totally sedentary.  Take up some other kind of hobby or exercise, and start stretching regularly.

Never before has someone put forth so much time on a gimmick that is so completely shitty, unfunny and sucks.   Eat a dick you taint fondling nut nibbling man fart inhaling bag of unfunny suck.

You stick your tongue in a dude's peehole while gently rolling foerskin between your thumb and pointer finger like a normal person rolls a booger.

Fuck of already.

You are wrong I use that exact cycle I have seen tons of improvement in my joints but you would not know cause the only squat you do is when you get up or sit down on the couch.

The same thing happens to me,
If I stop deadlifts for a while back niggles with little aches and pains and never feels healthy and normal,
Same thing when I gave up squats for leg presses for a bit, knee pain actually got worse and became so tight and inflexible getting to the floor became incredibly difficult, after a bit back squatting felt loads better.

I take 3 tablespoons of Flax oil a day for my joints.  Without it, my knees and shoulder joints are noticeably worse off.    I also find warming up the knees on stationary cycle for 15 minutes before training legs helps a lot too.

Turmeric powde and/or curcumin extracts are part of my daily supplement stack and I would say they rival aleve in terms of pain relief. If you don't have any I would highly recommend taking some, if you just go with regular turmeric its really cheap.

I use to eat a shit load of onions and garlic for my joints but then the scent comes out of your pores when you are sweating and I was heavy pounding this bitch who complain about the smell so I had to stop that shit.

I've also noticed more pain after taking a week or two off. I believe its due to the lack of inflammation and fluid in the joints from NOT working out. When you're working out regularly there's gonna be that inflammation and fluid that gives you a cushion and lubrication to make things move more smoothly.

And also what proud virgin said about stiffening up due to inactivity.

bunch of old geezers complaining in here

to quote RC
Quote
In 1994, I didn't complain when I was 15th. In 1995. I didn't complain about 11th. In 1996, I didn't complain when I got sixth. In 1997, I didn't complain when I got ninth. The moral of the story is: Why complain? I just kept on doing what I was doing and improved every year until I was the best. So keep on complaining and maybe you'll find out like a little kid that complaining ain't going to get you anywhere but where you are now -- second place!

I noticed the same thing.  When you're stagnant and your joints aren't moving much, I personally felt achy.
And like the trainer said, glucosamine, msm, fish oil...etc have worked well for me.  I take a ton though..maybe 3x the recommended dosage for each.  Don't listen to those who say otherwise.  If anything, up your dose on these for a few months and it should help.  No placebo pill either...it actually does work.

I think dead-lifts, light ones if you're back is bad, are essential to keep it pain free. Knees can get very achy if you do not move much.

Are you referring to this?

They are a good exercise imho, very difficult even doing just one with good form requires great strength and coordination.  Barry Sanders used to rep them out holding a 45-lb plate :o
