I think I do. Geez, last month I've been waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air, unable to breathe. It's scary as hell. However it's not very frequent, maybe once every 10-14 days.
I'm going to the doc tonight. I think the problem might be the inner part of the nasal cavities, cause' I feel they're somewhat swollen most of the times, and I can't breathe properly.
I'm not overweight, I don't drink, nor I smoke, I exercise regularly, so experiencing this at only 26 is a big letdown for me.
Any suggestions?
-
Yes. I was just diagnosed with very severe sleep apnea. Next up is the three night take home test with a CPAP to see if it will help me.
Good luck!

Thanks. When were you diagnosed? Did the doc tell you what may be the cause?

Started to get it around a year ago, sleeping propped up and on the side and it's fine, sleeping on the back is an impossibility. Haven't had a docs diagnosis I'm just assuming that's what it is,making an effort to sleep on side solved it

Whoa, I read that would help enormously. Glad to know it works. I def going to do the same.

Seems quite common among BB's. I assumed it was the drugs which caused it.

I heard that as well. The extra weight, even if it's muscle doesn't help either. Just for the record I don't use peds.

lol, racist? ??? I'm willing to use any of those tools. You're a good gimmick. :-*

Simply duck tape a leaf blower to your mouth every night. Problem solved.

Ask your Doc to order a HST (Home Sleep Test). If you are apnea positive, you'd just have to go in a lab for a full night titration. If you are positional and mild, you can trained to sleep on your side like a dog. JADs (jaw devices) are also good for mild apnea. You don't want to fuck with a UPPP.
I would suggest pillows and a chin strap, given you are young and still have a life. Masks turn women off.

Can only speak for myself but once I found i had what I assumed to be sleep apnea and tried a few extra pillows and lying on my side it was like being given a new lease of life. I'd nap 2 or 3 times during the day on a day I wasn't at work despite waking later and felt incredibly fatigued all the time and wanted to do nothing but sleep, now it's loads better and can't remember the last time I napped during the day since getting Into the habit of sleeping on my side
Like you I also have a problem with nasal cavity and could never breath through my nose and it frequently ran and I too believe this contributed to the problems, relegious use of beconase nasal spray has helped massively with this, it's only about £8 for 6 weeks worth and is well worth a try but takes about a week to start to see an effect

Yeah, I def want to try a nasal spray, it's annoying not being able to breathe properly.
How much do you weigh? What's your neck size?
150 lbs

Holy shit I figured you were some permabulker weighing 250 w a 20" neck. OK, something else is going on here then that you probably won't be able to fix with lifestyle modifications....go see your doctor and see what he says.

at 150 with a 15'' neck, your events are probably hereditary. BMI isn't a factor. What's the sleep profile of your parents and siblings?

Sleep with your face buried in your wife/gf's ass crack, same thing.
I sleep like a baby but my wife refuses to kiss me until I shower and wash my face????

None of them snore nor have some kind of sleeping problem.
I suffered from asthma when I was a child. So I guess that's related.

I do not, but all my big playmates have had it; they are typically between 250-310lbs... solid muscle or chunky muscle they all had it. All were also cycling. Coincidence? A cpap machine is the most common solution. These machines used to be very noisy, but they have become much quieter over the years which is great for your bed mate. It looks very uncomfortable though; I dunno how guys sleep with this on.
I give them as stocking stuffers. :D

True. Injuries and allergies can also play a part. Wife told me I stop breathing at night so at 29 (225lbs /16%bf) went and got tested. Playing rugby for 15yrs yielded me several broken nose injuries of various severity. One nostril is almost completely closed way up in there. They want to chisel the shit out of my sinuses but until then I use Cpap.
Yes it looks stupid and sucks if you're not a side sleeper naturally but I swear you will get the best sleep of your life on it. Being former military I was uses to late nights and early mornings and always survive on about 6hrs of sleep. So dragging ass some days comes with the territory but with cpap even 6hrs feels like you slept all day... its awesome.
Btw if your insurance doesn't pay for it, you can usually find a good deal on a low hour used one on Craigslist.

Are your sheets and blankets all trashed in the morning? Your arms and legs thrash around while you are choking.
You sleep in what looks like an Embassy Suite room and you are wired up like an astronaut. They diagnose the apnea by watching you on infrared and the instruments you are wired to. If you have it you go in and get fitted with a cpap. They used to have to have watch you sleep again to get the proper pressure, this called titration. The pressure is measured in Centimeters of Water as the unit of measure. The newest generation of cpaps are auto titrating and some doctor skip the second session in a sleep chamber.
The cpap has a computer inside that can tell when you have stopped breathing or are snoring excessively. It then adjusts the pressure. My sweet spot is 13 CmH2O.
Only half of the patients comply with cpap therapy after it is fitted. I resisted for two years before I couldn't stand it any longer. (falling asleep at stop lights and the like.) Your first night successfully sleeping with a cpap will be memorable. You will wake up with your sheets and blankets exactly as you left them, and have a non drug euphoria that will never be equaled again.
Even with the cpap you may need the surgical operation to reduce the pressure necessary. I had to have my uvula shaved down, my tonsils out, and deviated septum fixed, all in one go.
Cpaps are a spin off from military aviation. Air Force doctors were puzzled why some pilots slept better in airplanes when the co pilot was flying than in their racks. The pilots connected to their oxygen systems delivering air under pressure worked like a cpap machine. When obstructive sleep apnea was classified a problem, they put two and two together.
Edit: Ask the tech to play back an apnea episode for you. They did for me and I was shocked at how much I sounded like my dad in his bedroom from when I was a kid.

Narrow air passages.

2 things most men need to live:
1. Statins
2. CPAP

That wouldn't work, unless your wife eats a whole pot of beans and cabbage every night. Even then, it would actually kill you. Do you really want to fill your lungs with methane gas?
-

Sorry this took so long to reply as I've been doing chores. I did the home sleep test last week depending how you look at it, either failed or passed miserably. Next up is the CPAP take home to see if it works for me.
I wish you all the best, my friend.

Apparently I stop breathing for up to a couple of minutes at a time so I know whereof you speak.
Hopefully things will work out for you, sir. We may have our differences but we have are more alike than not. All the best to you.

I know that you were not speaking with me but if I may? While it can be weight related mine is not. I have dropped over 60 pounds of me in the last couple of years, most recently an additional 42 or so. I have lived with this for years and it has been told me that it will kill me if not abated to some degree. I have no idea if it will but have done all that is asked of me save get this device.
I am now at the point that I will try it. No pity asked, just a desire to contribute to another's desire to know what is going on within them.
Be well.

Update
I went to the doctor and explained with details what's going on. He told me that according to my symptoms, I have not sleep apnea. He told me that because my nasal cavities were getting swole at times, I started mouth breathing and the uvula was getting dry or something like that ???. He also told me he believed I was either allergic to something I've been using for a long time or somehing I recently started to use (like a perfume, shampoo, medicine, etc) but I don't think that's the case.
He prescribed me loratadine and a nasal spray (mometasone furoate). And althought he was sure it's not sleep apnea, I think he wasn't sure what's causing this.
I told him I was jumping out of the bed in the middle of my sleep unable to breathe, but still, not sleep apnea.

I don't know how much of a comfort this will be to you, but you and another member here shall be at the center of my prayers this night. Of late, I am not exactly on good terms with the Christ but the Lord knows my heart is in a good place for the both of you. You and your family deserve to have a long and wonderful life together.
In all ways and for always, be well sir.

You've got sleep apnea period! Get one of these it changed my life. It's called a somnodent.
-
i have a very narrow nasal passage on my right side and i also have anxiety. ive tried all kinds of shit and the best thing that has helped me go to sleep is a sleeping pill from Walmart called Walsom ,it contains Doxylamine Succinate and it works just fine. i used to need 2 of those 25 mg pills to put me out and now i only need one. i was on Adivan for a couple yrs and that worked also but i wanted to get off any prescription bullshit and Walsom works just as fine. i still do have my moments though, from time to time ill wake up at 2 in the morning and im up all night. sucks but im used to it by now. so in my case its a combination of the deviated septum plus the anxiety that fucked up my sleeping pattern. i was fucken pathetic and hopeless for a couple yrs before i was prescribed the Adivan and that followed up with the Walsom..waking up in the middle of the night choking is the most terrible expierence ever ..fucken hate it. try sleeping on a couple of pillows too

After explaining every single detail I told him I did some research and I thought it was sleep apnea. He laughed and said, no it's not. I still can benefit from a somnodent I guess, so thanks.

i have sleep apnea bad, i jump up sometimes gasping for air and it scares the shit out of me,worst feeling in the world. ive been getting them less since i went from 302lbs to 245lbs,also the steroids have alot to do with that also
-
Number one reason for it is being over weight. There are exceptions to this but that's the majority. You want to be 5'9" 240lb? You're going to be an unhealthy snorer. I get it when I have to much too drink. I wake up like I'm having a heart attack gasping for breath like I'm drowning.
-
Go to your doctor and if you have good enough insurance to take care of it, ask to do a sleep clinic. I did one this summer because I snore on my back and can't breath well through my nose from a deviated septum. They set you up in a hotel style room with a decent bed and tv and shit and give you a lunesta. Probably still had the worst sleep of my life because all of the shit they hook up to you. I felt like DA during his final days.

x2. And in this case, being overweight does not mean being fat; 5'9 ad 240lbs of muscle is also considered overweight. :-[

i agree with oldtimer on this, reason being is soon as i lost weight the apnea went pretty much away, still happens but way less than it used to

Sounds like a lot of tren abusers on this thread.

Yup, high bodyweight and large neck size are the main risk factors. Generally controllable too
