Title: The old guy needs help
Post by: tommywishbone on December 26, 2014, 04:34:00 PM
All right cats, I'm asking for suggestions. Here's the deal. My appetite is in the gutter.  I'm just not super hungry these days and then when I do get hungry I get filled up after eating half a damn meal. What the hell?

I know I'm obviously getting old and that influences appetite but my training is still spot on. Any suggestions?

-Oh, and smoking weed just knocks me right out so that's no good.

Thanks guys.

Just eat caloric heavy meals and you'l be fine.  Stick between 100-10000 calories a day.

You might be getting reflux.  I found that out when I was hungry as hell, eat a bit and be full.  Turned out the reflux was triggering me to  be full.  Might need some antacids.  Do you or did you eat a lot of hot foods in your life?  That shit catches up to you.

Maybe time to follow a Johnny Falcon diet of lots of veggies

I'm the same way (I think we're around the same age). Just go with it. At our age having a big appetite isn't important. I just keep it relatively clean.

8-10 months.  What should I/the doctor be concerned with?

Nice, very nice.

I'm hanging around 222-225 and fairly tight-vascular,  but it's just getting really hard to keep eating the quantity of clean food to maintain this weight & size.

Dunno what kinda supps you're running.....liver values are important to check for this (even if you're not taking orals), as are lipidsand renal function. Same with a hormone panel. Basically a CBC full panel is a good idea of you've run any cycles in the last year and you're noting physiological changes.

Let's see some photos how "lean" you are

Do you take digestive enzymes with each meal? Do you take enzymes between meals, before bed time, and first thing in the morning, to aid systemic function. Do you take probiotics.

As you age, proper digestion is one of the first things to go bad. If you are not digesting your food properly, then you won't be hungry, even though you need the added nutrition.

Thank you EC.  That's certainly something to consider. For the low cost I will definitely throw in a nice digestive enzyme to my daily supplement routine.

This is a great post as well.

I do probiotics 2x daily and a shot of Apple cider vinegar before each meal I eat. Good stuff.

more protein shakes...........just because

eat very tiny meals or feedings if you will.........8-10 X a day.

Or you could carry a huge cooler on wheels chock full of food with you wherever you go, along with a gallon jug of water, and eat every 2 hours on the dot........buy a watch with an alarm so you eat precisely at 2 hour intervals.

PS-If you choose scenario # 3,make sure to wear bright red knee high Ottomix kicks, with a doo rag with skulls on it..........it`ll just make you feel more hardcore, which in turn will make you be more dedicated to eating more........ignore the laughter on the street........people never understand us.

Good luck Tom,I hope these tactics help you out my brother from another mother!

This isn't a troll post. I'm older as well, growing up in the arcades when Space Invaders came out, and pinball started to fade. Never did gear and think there is another possible explanation. The solution can be very simple. As you grow older you hit a point where the recuperation from the heavy lifting isn't what it used to be. Throw in some moderate weight days where you quit sets when the bar slows down, not all the way to failure. Get out more pump sets. Pretty much do the opposite of Mike Mentzer's Heavy Duty System. Do some light cardio. Once you get your body going again, the appetite will come back. Also remember to hydrate with half a cup of water 20 or 30 minutes after a meal. Food takes plenty of water to digest. No need to be dehydrated.

Just push foods in your mouth, move your jaw and then swallow.
Hope this helps!

Haha!  ;D.   That used to work. It doesn't work anymore. I get so full I can't even swallow an Anadrol tablet.

The lack of willpower of your digestive system disgusts me!  :D

Serious questions, what kind of foods do you eat and are you losing muscle mass?
I know a 240 pound man of 62, only consuming 2200 kcals, but he's able to keep his mass.

- main foods: chicken, tuna, kidney beans, wheat bread, Muscle Milk, white rice, canned corn, bananas, full range of OTC supplements, eggs, diet Dr. Pepper (LOL) love the diet Dr. Pepper, salsa.

Well, if you're able to keep your weight, then why would you overeat? Part of getting older is that your metabolism is getting slower.
Wheat can(!) cause stomach problems and a bloated feeling. If that's the case, then I would suggest to replace the bread by something oat meal, potatoes or quinoa. Carbonated soft drinks can cause the same problems. I would suggest to ditch the Peppers for at least a week to find out if you digest foods better.

DP, I'll drop the wheat bread and see if that helps. It should.  The Diet Dr Pepper is almost an addiction. I would say, I'll try and eliminate the diet soda, but that would be a lie.

No judgment but from a health perspective, I agree wholly with this post above.

Now excuse me while I pin 3CCs of bathtub sauce into each trap.
