If I was a gym owner I would kick anyone out who did this, it's just so pointless

I agree. Guys posting invalid YouTube links while on the leg press deserve to be kicked out of the gym.
-
i think people who load 10 to 12 plates per side and unrack it to 1/4 inch reps should be tossed out...

I wasn't on the leg press ,so I'm safe ;D

What gets me is why do you need to get someone to sit on the top of the leg press
I see guys loading up the leg press all the time quarter reps less than quarter reps even.
Two guys spotting them
Ask them to go even one rep with 315 in the squat rack even 225, can't do it

Ego lifters ....most I've gone after my knee injury is 9 plates a side and I can get 8 or 9 decent reps.
Without hands on my knees. Which it's another idiot thing guys do

When i was in a gym, a long time ago, there was an old guy who would kneel on the floor and use the leg press back rest to do Scott curls.
And he did a lot of sets, leaving the bar over the seat between sets.
-
He could have left the safety's on with that range of motion
All watermelon , chitlins and the occasional yam

Oh no, 1200#'s is a warm up for most women. ::)
-
I used to do the same thing , same weight + 210lbs training partner , knee to the chest ,3 sets of 10 , now I can't even lift half of that weight .
-
Most guys in the gym use a range of motion like that. Other guys keep the back board high so their knees hit their chest when they are barely bending their knees. The whole point of any exercise is to see how much stress you can put on the muscles to make them adapt and grow. I concentrate on how much I bend my knees.

The range of motion debate is an endless one. I LOL at powerlifters when they tell others how to lift; they simply forget that not everyone has the same goal. Full ROMs or partials, when it comes to hypertrophy, you have successful examples in both camps.

i saw toney freeman do legpress in a video and he says "no need to go deeper than that, not if youre as tall as i am", what does he mean by that?
-
I use last setting on seat ,knees to chest and as I get heavier I go down slower and then not quite to full lockout on top,,i think hi reps are best for them tbh...

What would you do with a guy like that in the gym? :D
-
I am a gym owner and I have kicked out people for such stupidity.
-
You guys are missing the point! Loading and removing all that weight is a great trap and arm workout.

Schreg is the greatest partial lifter the internet has seen, notice he has to chain himself to the seat to contain his partial power -

What the hell is that seriously ... Some guys are just retarded also . There should be a test people have to take before they can join a hardcore gym.
-
And not a single quad was trained that day ;D
-
.
Boom, first you do your leg presses, then you slide down, and do some triceps work.

I think that guy is really mentally challenged, we shouldn't make fun of him.. ;D

if you look real close while its in slow motion while zooming in x100 you can see the sled actually moving a little bit. impressive.

What a self absorbed jerk. Ties up every 45 within 5 miles to do that?
-
I do crab leg press
-
The actual "workout" is the farmer's walk with 92 45-lb plates to the leg press. No need to put the weights away at that point. The leg press machine can serve as a weight tree from that point on.
-
you think the joke is on him?
the joke is on the guy who's next to use the legpress after he left without removing the plates :-\

This is how a real russian champion trains

If your lower back rounds while leg pressing from going too deep with shitty hip mobility you can blow a disc in your lumbar area
45 degree leg press done with 'bro form' sloppy reps is a really hostile exercise to the discs, as dangerous as shitty deadlift or squat reps but most people don't treat it with respect.
that's why you should use a horizontal leg press, put the seat back and do each rep slowly and with control
-
Every gym has clowns who do this. Same thing with the standing calf machine.
-
What would you do with a guy like that in the gym? :D
I'd probably have to step outside to the parking lot to avoid laughing in his face. Yep, there is one born every minute. This thread is proof of that a few of these idiots end up on the leg press doing something they think is an exercise, but is just a big joke in all reality.
-
I've always thought that full range of motion is always best. With squats and other leg pressing movements it should be ass to ankles or as close to it as possible. Apparently that doesn't seem to be the case. At 6'2" I can't count the number of times I've tweaked my back doing full squats -- not to mention how horribly uncomfortable it is.
Measuring muscle activation using EMG it appears that parallel, 90 degree angle, stimulates the quads the most and that the most effective exercise is the hack squat. Something the Coach will not want to hear and won't believe no matter what science objectively measures.
http://suppversity.blogspot.com/search?q=how+deep+squats
"Turns out the hack squat is the most effective exercise. In that, going deep
(50° knee angle) is only slightly more taxing on the quads than the standard
and much safer 90° knee angle."
"What I consider of particular importance is that both in the case of the hack- as well as in the case of the "standard" barbell squat, going beyond parallel (knee angle <70°) is not worth the increased risk of injury (cf. figure 2)."

depth and injury is just some bullshit! Plain stupid bullshit!
Its all about stiff people who never stretch their muscles, tendons, joints that get these type of problem. Continue doing the shit and u can do full motion workout all yourlife. They get pain and stop doing it, instead of continue doing it and let the body adapt. The result lead to one thing, HANDICAPED FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIFE NOT ABEL TO DO FULL MOTION BODY WORKOUT!
I know the truth!
How come every singel guy I know why learned to do deep squat in the begining can contiue doing them all their life? And those who do half squat complain about kneepain?
-
I just cant stand people who do those weird complicated workouts. Like they are some super high level athletes and they need a very specific workout.
Remind me of this mma douche bag at my gym, guy just wander around the gym randomly using whatever is on his way to do the most stupid shit ever like burpess/lateral raise hybrid then he moves to leg press then he moves to hanging leg raises.... IT DOESNT MAKE ANY LOGICAL SENS YOU FUCKING SCUMBAG
-
Well, some people are delusional and dont know how to do things. They never get good at anything. Or maybe dosent want to get god at anything, just move their body a little bit. But I guess, retard is the truth in most cases!
-
At the end of the day those people are craving for attention. They are just waiting for someone to ask them about what they are doing. Key is too ignore them completly.

I agree but it's hard to ignore when you are waiting to use the machine and some fucking idiot is doing that fuckery on it....

I take it you're not a fan of ATG paused squats?

I've read that it's actually worse than squats for two reasons: because it encourages people to use weights far in excess of what they are capable of doing. With squats, there is usually some sanity there. Also, the position of the back relative to the weight being moved is somewhat like doing a squat while bent forward. Like a good morning with a squat in the middle.
I've hurt myself on squats but the pain that I subjected my back to while I was "resting" my back with the leg press 20 years ago was epic.

I was a fan for decades. Reading this study is making me rethink things.
Of course, there are, at least for some, more important factors than just big quads. Whether are not parallel squats are superior to quad growth it would seem that full squats promote functional ability and athletic conditioning more.

Exactly! i've always thought the angled leg press was a poor design. The horizontal leg press is a much more natural and safer movement.

Dr McGill has a study showing how shitty the 45 degree leg press done with excessive rom and tard reps is on the lower back, it's brutal
I went so far as to buy a Hammer strength horizontal press for my home gym because all the local gyms only have 45 degree sleds :(
IMO the safest one I've used is the nautilus xpload because you can start from the top, you can out the seat back so it's almost a squat, and the footplate has linkage that saves the knees .. But it was twice the price of a craigslist HS press so I took the next best thing

I'm a huge fan of A. Jones and anything he had his hand in were superior.
That's why I put a lot of trust in Hammer equipment though I don't know how close his son is to his father's genius.
Recently our gym got a Hammer V Squat. As soon as I tried it I didn't like it and was so disappointed that the son of Arthur Jones would produce a squat machine that literally prevents you from doing a full squat. A.J. was a strong proponent of full range motion and it's impossible to go past parallel on the Hammer V Squat.
But after reading that study about the efficacy of parallel squats I gave it another try. It definitely gives me a pump in the quads that no other movement does.
I'll stick with it for a bit and see how it goes. Regrettably, when they got that machine they got rid of the Hack Squat.
