Twice.
If you can afford it, it's great. At some point in life tho, it's about keeping the gravy flowing.

Fear of the unknown scares most people. best to be employed while you look to change than to quit and struggle.

I will probably never have this experience. However, I know someone who was a nurse for about 26 years. After all that time, she decided she wanted to work in the mental health field, and went back to school for her Doctorate. She was 47 at the time. It definitely can be done. I guess it all depends on your age, funding, and current position in life.

I think Coach is hiring. They pay 6 figures.

Start working for yourself mate.
You will make loads more cash working for yourself.
I told you this many times.
You are good salesman
Come down next week we sit down and talk.

I've just changed career at 34, from manual engineering to engineering surveying/inspecting... Older you are the harder it is to take on boat loads of information, don think Id of made the move in my 40's

This is good advice, if you have a sellable skill. Working for yourself does beat working for somebody else.

I was in accounting in my 20's and decided to go to medical school. Started working in software to pay the bills and never looked back. Never did become a MD :-\
-

Depends on the individual
-
Also depends on how 'hard' the new field your moving into is... My new role fits in with prior experience of my old trade...
If its a total U turn, it will take you years to attain a skill set, unless the job isn't very skilled

Do you have a specific career in mind?
-
well don´t know about a career change but i was asked by a woman if i could escort her on her "House calls" if you know what i mean. I of course declined ;). On a serious note i did learn a new job at 40 and sitting in a class room again was hard but of course i was learning it all in German. I agree with Local Hero if it´s a total U turn it´s hard...because it was sport i was not really starting from scratch but some of the Marketing etc...i did have to learn a fair bit in my own time. it is possible just got to pay more attention.

yes, and how interested the person is and whether he/she has enough confidence.
i knew a guy that did a complete turn around in his late 50s. it required the use of math, yet he couldn't remember if he'd even completed algebra as a kid (and he couldn't solve math problems because he didn't remember any of it)
but he took himself from pre-algebra to calculus in very short order by using a website to teach himself, lol
and he had the time of his life doing it, too. he went from looking tired, spent and depressed all the time to being interested and involved with life. he became a much different person.
i think the people that convince themselves they already have the answers are the ones that can't easily switch gears.

Go for it. If you fail, then you can always go back to mediocrity again. If you don't take risks, then you'll end up as some miserable old bastard, thinking coulda, woulda, shoulda, because you didn't have the balls to go for it, back when you had the chance.

Sometimes I think about getting a MS in statistics. It's not my field, and I only got 2 semesters of statistics in college, but the MS would allow me to go into education, and I really like the idea. No sure how hard would be for me to complete this program, I've emailed the director of the graduate program in statistics and he told me it was cool, that the MS was directed to people from different fields.

I'm going through this very thing right now. Good luck bmc. What career are you looking into?

Sort of - went from running someone else's business to running my own.
Still software related but completely different field & what I do now is more about educating people on trading as opposed to running teams of developers. I still have a small development team but they know what they are doing now.
Should the business go tits up, I can still trade & I'd be looking for a job in the financial industry, most definitely not in software.
In my case, I had to basically re-educate myself in my own time - something that took considerable time, more so because it's an industry full of fucking crooks.
-
I'm in IT, the more I learn - the more there's to learn, still very young (29) so who knows what life will bring, but I love my job and want to get better for at least next 10 years. Always found easy to learn new stuff (my memory allows me this) so would be not a big issue to switch if needed I'm pretty sure. It's nice when people find the courage to get out of their comfort zone age over 50 or so.

I believe BigCyp recently did this and went to medical school.
Hopefully we can get an update on him shortly.

Oh, you didn't hear? They found him hanging by a rickety stool with a belt around his neck last week.

The problem with school - it just lands you in another job working for someone else.
What is the point?

Lost my job because of covid. No idea what's next. Figured I'd get some ideas during these turbulent times and inspiration from fellow getbiggers.

Happy to help.
Lets start off with some basic questions.
What education (degrees + certifications) and/or trades background do you have?
What industry were you most recently in and for how long? What title did you hold?
Once you give me these answers, I'll gladly share some opinions.

Why are people copying the way I type
Ask Vince goodgums
He has had to reinvent himself many times
He even pretended to be straight and work as a prison guard

Was thinking of quitting my job and follow my dreams as a Vegas Chippendale's dancer. Do they hire guys in their mid 40's? I've seen photos of these twinks and I'm in better shape than half of them.

If half of them die from Covid you may have a chance. It's more likely half would die from AIDS.

I got bad news...
40-50% of the jobs lost due to convid are never coming back.
Use that unemployment money wisely.

Many people changed their careers last year. The pandemic showed that the Internet gives us so many opportunities to work and get a higher wage. I have passed several online courses. Some of them were even for free. And found a job on https://ca.jooble.org/jobs/Cochrane%2C-AB (https://ca.jooble.org/jobs/Cochrane%2C-AB).

That is the "job sector" with the highest growth. Nobody seems to realize the economic impact of covid has yet to be felt. When people have to start paying their bills on time again reality will come roaring back. Right now many are just not paying but sit in the drive thru 3x a day.

“bigmc” will never be unemployed as long as Joon needs his ass kissed.
I never understood why they just didn’t share their romantic tryst here for all to see?
It’s not like Getbig hasn’t had homos post here before.
