He had some serious strength. Is it true he only trained for a contest then he gave up lifting till the next contest?

495 for reps.  Thats damn impressive.  Would love to see branch and phildo attempt that.  There's a video of Coleman deadlifting like 800lbs for 2 reps too back during this era i believe.  Makes today's pros look really bad.

Branch seems to have lost a lot of his pressing strength lately. There was a recent video of him and Jose Raymond chest training and Jose out pressed branch on everything.

Levrone was benching 600 pounds for reps before he tore his pec muscle in 1993.

Nah, that sounds like BS. Levrone was a great presser but 600 for a strict single, let alone for reps? - I can't believe that unless someone has a video.

i saw that and noticed how much stronger jose was on the presses.  Branch's triceps look atrophied too.

With that kind of strength, he could no doubt kick just about anybody's ass on the planet in a heartbeat.

Especially since it's only 12 days away from the contest.

Yet, little Phil was bragging about doing 4 plates on the incline hammer strength chest press lol. I see regular gym rats go up to 2-3 plates on that same machine. And Phil is bragging about 4 plates? haha lol.

To be fair Jose is a very strong bber. I'm willing to bet he is actually stronger than branch in every lift

Jose was squatting 495 for 10 reps a wk or two out from contest
