Hello, I'm new to the site. I've been into BB since 78' and the first(and only) pro contest that I ever saw was the 88' Olympia. I started out as a Ferrigno geek because he was the Hulk and I felt sorry for him on Pumping Iron. Arnold is probably my favorite now because of what all he's been able to accomplish. I'm not a tall guy, so other than what I just said, I tend to root on the shorter ones. Padilla was cool!

You can just see how some bodybuilders have fun. Some work too hard when posing. Look at the WBF (bad example but) when Danny did his routines he genuinely looked like he was having fun.
And yes you gotta give the guy credit, still one of the best heads of hair out there...Besides big Louie
-
Wait just a minute Willis! >:(
-
Looks like you're about to breast feed him, Mike

Danny

and more

And again

Best Short BB of All time...

3. Columbo
4. Preist
5. LeBrada
6. Ortiz

In the last picture, how did he get his ass so small with great legs like that? ???

He still is humble and a nice guy. And funny as hell too! :D
and still has a mop of hair!
I wonder if Danny got to see Bozo......
I hope so....at least one Latino brother has.... :)

You'd rank Padilla over Priest?
Interesting.....

And again
Look at that waist. What a freak! some of his best photos are among the best bb photos ever. Imagine if he carried that same physique on a 6ft body
-
Padilla's the best short guy because no one else can touch that symmetry coupled with size, aesthetics and taper.
He's forgotten because he didn't win and like Szkalak and Mentzer, quit immediately after realizing that being better than Columbu wasn't going to matter.
Probably should've stuck around since he could have easily beaten Dickerson.
-
Bennaziza(?) sure blew me away at the 88' Olympia. No one there that I talked to had ever heard of him before.

Lee has the size over Danny for sure. I like Lee a lot. Not taking anything away from him. Danny is just the most complete BB I've ever seen in person. Not a missing muscle group. Better thigh sweep. In my opinion just a more pleasing physique with better overall shape.
David Henry is still coming up but not in Danny's league just yet.
By the way Danny is a huge fan of Lee and has nothing but accolades for his physique.

If I was Lee's height, I'd take his size over Padilla's.....
He is literally the only giant killer left...

Looking at the pics of the 81 olympia it's pretty clear that Danny was the best guy on stage that night in terms of pure BB standards he had Franco beat pretty soundly. Franco looked good considering what he had been through with his leg and all but that does not hide that fact that he had horrible gyno and his legs were not up to par. Sorry Franco but judges are supposed to judge who has the best body not who has the best body considering what he's been through. So if that contest was judged fairly Danny could have been one of the shortest mr. olympia's in history, not sure if he is the same height as Franco or not. Danny is one of the most complete BB in history, when he came back in the early 90's he looked incredible, he added some mass and still retained his shape. I would have loved to see Danny in his 90 NOC shape taking on Labrada at the olympia. Now for pure shock value, Lee is better. His physique is outrageous but I think Danny in his prime was better than lee. It's close, especially if you look at Lee when he won his first pro show, he was shredded...close But I'll go with Danny.

Div it really comes down to preference. You have to understand that when I was a 17 year old kid, Danny was the first bodybuilder I ever met in person. I walked into the gym and Danny was just finishing an arm workout with a tank top on. I took one look and thought “that’s what I want to look like (except of course for the height, I’m 5’7”).” I’ve been trying ever since. Lol

natural al… many people have made similar statements to your above. The 81 O was between Danny and Tom Platz. Again it comes down to preference. I am also a fan of Labrada and Lee P but I still choose Danny.

IMHO, the best short guys ever were:
1. Gary "Whatchu talkin' about Willis" Coleman
2. Emmanuel "Not Molested by Michael Jackson" Webster
3. The Oompa Loompas (hard to pick just one)
4. Billy "I know a little German" Barty
5. Tyrone "Mugsy" Bogues
Special "Short-Staffed" Ed
-
The black and white was taken in the late 1970's, the colored pic was taken in 1991.
-
The "grainy" look.
-
IMHO Danny Padilla's physique defines bodybuilding for me...
my top 3 small guys & i'll keep it to under 5'6" are:
1. Danny - no question
2. Lee L. - no weaknesses
3. Lee P. - super freaky but just not as complete or flowing as the other 2
-
Good pic of him in the corner.
-
If lee had a chest he would be the best short guy ever
since he doesent Danny takes it
-
Maybe Lee's pecs shifted into his arms.
-
Zane looks great here too.
-
rivalries of the past were the best
-

Danny had fantastic shape and size. Look at those freakin calves!
-
Yeah. Titus and Kamali would be cool if they were more consistent. I guess that won't happen now.
-
I forgot to include Mohammed Makkawy into the mix.

No John Sherman....
Man was off the meter, had a smaller waist and full muscle bellies than any of them...He just had too many personal problems
the list should read:
1. Lee L.
2. John Sherman
3. Lee P.
-
Momo Benaziza, 1.58 m.
RIP
-

what is this bump in his trunks in the colored picture, a turd or something?
-
if danny were a few inches taller he would of been mr O
-
Sherman was really good in winning his pro card & in a few pro shows...
while he definitely has better genetics than Danny something about Danny's physique to me screams raw power but he is still ver proportionate as well... i think more complete top to bottom than Sherman though John has better taper...
i'd take Sherman's physique over Priest... i'm not all about size & freakiness but rather about everything looking like it belongs together
-
I say
1 Momo (easily)
2 Priest
3 Padilla
Weez

Sorry to bump such an old thread but I didn't want to start a new one on Danny Padilla. I just uploaded a video of Danny on Youtube to share with you all. Here he is at the 1992 WBF Championship:

Danny is the greatest, no flawes. Plus he still looks great for his age.

Rammer,
Do you have any footage from the 1991 WBF Championship?
-
Pierre Van Den Steen also unbelievable short guy. Padilla the most complete with the best shape. Lee Priest has no chest, no back, and a very long torso with short legs........and the BEST ARMS ever. Funny that Mohammed Makkawy has more wins than all these guys combined!!!
-

Unfortunately I don't, only the '92 show.
-
Best short guy ?
The Padilla Gorilla , of course !!!
Best shape of any bodybuilder I have ever seen, only Flex Wheeler could possibly match him.
Even forgetting how short he is (5'2 or 5'3"), his shape has no equal (other than Flex Wheeler)
And that my friends, is pure GENETICS !!! :)
-
No question , Danny "The giant killer" Padilla.
ps awesome 1990 Night of Champions pic Max.. :o
-
Pierre Van Den Steen also unbelievable short guy.
Danny was and still is the best short bodybuilder to date, I can't really consider Shawn that short (for bodybuilding) and Lee has too many flaws compared to Danny and by bodybuilding standards he is vertually flawless....but no one can compare to Vandensteens conditioning.........
-
Lee obviously has more size and is "freakier" for sure, but almost no one beats Danny's combination
of size, cuts, and proportion.
If you cover his head up and just look at the body only, it's very hard to determine what
his height really is! Epitomizes what bodybuilding is supposed to be all about!
-

The one in the gym was a week or two before. The simi-relaxed is the 1981 Olympia. These next two are from the 1990 NOC.
