What kept Brian down in the ranks anyway?  Was it his legs and lack of overall conditioning?

He suffered from Mike Christian-ism - ie. huge upper body, tiny legs - prolly wouldnt be safe to squat heavy with a waist that small anyway. I was watching footage of him from the 88 or 89 Mr. O and when he did his vaccuum pose and front lat spread, his waist practically dissapeared. it was FREAKY!

I dunno, maybe someone has footage of him (Shawn Ray??) but everyone should see it - not much in bodybuilding shocks me but Brian Buchanan still does

Interestingly enough, he posed to the song "Billy Jean" at that year's Olympia and danced like Michael Jackson to boot.

Stunning!  A superior display of muscle control and a trim waistline.  Current pros and amateurs need to take a lesson.  Could any of the current flavors of the month (Ronnie, Branch, Gustavo, etc.) do anything even approaching that?  No.

Doom approves.

Yeah, that first guy is Tony Pearson. Robby Robinson and Frank Zane also immediately come to mind with the vacuum pose.

I always admired Tony's physique.  He had a freaky exaggerated V-taper which created the illusion that he weighed a lot more than he did.  His skinny calves were the only thing that held him back from doing better as a pro.

The resemblance between Pearson and Michael Jackson is not accidental.  Back in the 80's Tony actually had plastic surgery to make himself look more like Michael.  Look at the difference between the color photo (after) and the B&W photo (before) in NarcissisticDeity's post.  True story.

It's definitely Tony Pearson. He used to do doubles routines with Juliette Bergman. Had a nice physique, but some of the smallest calves I've ever seen on a Pro.

He probably had smaller calves than I did.  Not to say that I have particularly small calves, but for a pro you would expect them to be huge.  But he was black and small calves seem to be in the bloodline.

Here is Charles Clairmonte:

The Vacuum pose should be mandatory and get rid of these redicously GH guts.Richard Jones made the statement he would never use HGH.This mandatory pose should be used in the NPC before they get there Pro Cards.
STOP THE MADNESS GET RID OF THE GUTS.It will take time maybe 5 years but Bodybuilding will be better accepted. You can still use a just steroids and be a Freak.
PS You should not be penalized for not taking insulin,IGFor HGH
