Title: Mount Rushmore of Non Heavyweight Champs
Post by: littleguns on January 27, 2016, 12:50:49 PM
Who would be your picks for a Mount Rushmore of Wrestlers that never won a Heavyweight Title

For me, Piper, Hall, Arn Anderson and Henig

We've got to omit Hennig.
He beat Bockwinkle for the AWA strap before coming to New York.

The rest of the list, so far, looks good.

Yikes! Recognizing that as a World title is a little rough, the AWA was a shell of itself by Henning's win, comparable to ROH today.
Great thread though!

I'll take Hall and Piper and add DiBiase and either Jake Roberts, Mr. Wonderful (he was over mid 80s), Bam Bam Bigelo, or Jesse the Body (I don't remember his work but he was a wrestling legend),

Tatanka seemed destined to be a world champ when I was a kid. I thought he was as over as anyone.

Did not know that...hmm

Would probably have to go with Jake or Orndorff as my 4th slot...

Jake deserved a title, but was one of those guys who was never given it because maybe it was felt he didn't "need" it.

Guys like Hogan needed the title. The whole ethos of their character revolved around it.
Piper, Orndorff, Muracco, etc. did just fine without.

Some folks claimed he was the heir apparent before Hogan came in.

Rick Rude

Rick did win the NWA heavyweight title in Japan I believe and lost it to Sting.....

There was a podcast with Hall and I believe Chael Sonnen. Chael asked why he was never the top guy...Hall said he never thought about and was there to put himself over as well as upcoming talent. Said he was always in the mix with the champs ( HBK and later Hogan). He needs to hired full time to NXT as he truly has a gift for the business.....sad his addictions got the best of him but glad he is back on his feet.

Rude held the WCW INTERNATIONAL world heavy weight championship. It was literally a fake championship for a fake promotion. WCW didn't really have an international federation but the used the NWA championship belt when they did cross promotion with new Japan, I don't think it was ever referenced domestically.  Rude held it several times during its year run, and I believe Bishcoff said after he held that title he demanded that he got Stings spot at the top and he wanted to be WCW world champion.

While Rude was a United States champion it would have been nice to see him win the WCW world title. I always thought Rude was one of the better workers in pro wrestling.

Not sure if Haku ever won any Championships..I think it was his mic skills or there a lack of might have hurt him

Haku could have at least been a transitional champion as a fearsome heel.

Was Haku ever a draw?

Also does Andre's title "win" over Hogan count as an official championship? If not he's on the list too.

Haku won the tag titles in the Colossal Connection with Andre, that was about it.
