They work for me only if I focus on the 'hugging a barrel' movement otherwise it's just shoulder pain

Back in my youth, one of the bigger guys at the gym told me that while doing cable crossovers I should imagine hugging a fat woman. :-\

Done strictly with heavy weight, they are. Try doing them first during your next chest workout. Bet you never tried that.

For some like myself, they are better than bench press. Even Gary Strydom was quoted as saying his pecs grew better with heavy flys than with bench press.
