Title: Request for ND
Post by: natural al on March 23, 2006, 06:14:06 AM
ND,

I know you have a pretty good collection of pics and since my magazine collection is in storage and with all this talk of a Gary Strydom comeback I was wondering if you have any back pics of him-aside from the 88 Olympia-Maybe from the Grand Prix circuit where him and Christian were doing battle-I think this was 1989.  How about some pic of him from the WBF??  Really I'm wondering if his back was as bad as people say..I really can't remember, the only shot that sticks out in my mind is the one of him getting destroyed by Haney and he dropped so much weight for that show...

might be a lame request...who knows.

There are some in here:

the 88 O was not really a good representation of what Gary really looked like, he usually competed in the 250's or so..for that show he dieted down to about 225 due to the fact that he lost the Chigago Pro to Phil Williams a few weeks before the show...Phil was diced and Gary was huge but not in shape, in order to be sure he was ripped he did some extreme stuff that got him down to 225 but in the process he lost alot of muscle mostly in his back which was always a weak spot...I'm just wondering what his back looked like at 250-260lbs....it had to be better than it was in 88..btw, Gary's abs in 88 were incredible..

He did a combination of free weights, machines, and cardio.

I think the key lies in the way he squatted. Here is a pic of him squatting with his partner (Offseason, of course)  ;D

This is from the WBF contest where I believe Gary was his biggest a hell of a lot bigger than the 88 O

I never understood bb's like Strydom and Dillett that had such amazing physiques from the front and sides, but from the back they have tremendous lower body development and backs weaker than some local amateur stages.

what year was that???  I remember seeing a ton of pics from that tour and they were all great..those two had a great war going on for awhile...I'm thinking Gary's back had to be better at a higher BW than it was at the 88 O...btw look at the thighs on Strydom...
