I was watching War of the worlds, Chicks reality show on bb.com, His apt. seemed nice but I was expecting alot more since he was bragging about how much money he makes and what not.
Check out his treadmill, its gotta be at least 5 years old and from Costco. I cant believe it can support him ::)
-
Ya I can see it now... wait let me just put on my internet bullshit glasses 8) ahhh much better! looks like he has a lot of room.
-
He claims to make 300k yet he doesn't even own a house.
What a bullshitter. ::)
he has expensive habits? tastes?
he's going to find himself a sugar mama once he gets in shape?
besides he has plenty of time left to start building equity . . . saving for retirement is overrated when you live in the land of the eternally young.
-
Just to play devil's advocate for a moment, wtf does a single guy want to do with a house? It's just extra time & trouble and responsibility. An apartment requires less time & maintenance and if there's a problem, that's what the landlord is there for. Chicks (women, not Bob Chicks) usually want a house so they can "nest" in it and cozy it all up & shit and make a honeydew list a mile long every weekend for their man to fix every damn thing that breaks on a regular basis. Just another point of view to consider.

parked outside with your stuff waiting for the word to move on in?
chick doesnt know what he's missing

build equity?

has nothing to do with being a single guy/girl, it's strictly how much money you make. homes in california appreciate no matter what, and if you can afford one (making 300k qualifies) then you should buy one. you will make money when you sell the home. renting means spending money you will never see again, while the landlord gets their mortgage paid and then some.
-
I was suprised at how small his fridge was for a guy who eats a lot where does he store his protein.

As a landlord, I love long term tenants ;D

Just to be on Chics side for once. I haven't seen the pics or anything, but it s probably a condo not an apartment. And in LA as a single guy having a condo is the best thing. Having a house is just another headache to keep up. Condos are awesome and you get so much in one place. My condo in Honolulu was awesome. It was on the 34th floor ocean frontage in the complex voted the Best Multi-Living facility in Hawaii. We had 2 bowling alleys, a theater room with popcorn maker, tennis courts, putting green with driving cage, koi pond with BBQ house, huge black bottom pool with swim jets, and the jacquzzi could fit 50 people easily. We had a racquetball court, mens and womens locker room, steam and dry sauna and a 5,000 st. ft fully equipped gym. It was central A/C so even the halls were cold. It has the fastest elevator in Hawaii too I remember. It was awesome. Fully secure with a minimum of 4 security guards working 24 hours a day. I loved that place. EVry hot chic in Hawaii lived there too. The pool on weekends looked like the Hard Rock Hotel pool in Vegas with all the girls.
So Chic living in a condo is very acceptable in my book. And in LA some complexes are unreal. Tyson and DOn King had a beautiful condo at the Marmont in Beverly Hills. Probably cost about $4 or $5 million. Donald Trump has just started building condos here in Waikiki. They are starting at around $2 million.

Bad thing about having a place on a place on a upper floor is you can't have hundreds of pounds of weights in your house.
It's best to have a 2 bedroom duplex or house where it's just one floor and you can have 1 room to sleep in and another for your weights and exercise material. Since then you can workout whenever you feel like it instead of having to drive to the gym. It's more effective working out at home since you..
1.Don't have to wait for machinery.
2.Can just go lay down on the couch and recover.
3.Can eat anything you want while exercising.
4.Can do it alot easier because at a gym once you get worn out you get worn out and it takes a few hours to recover and you can't just stay at the gym all day.
It's best to have alot of stuff at home and to also go to a gym for specific equipiment.

onlyme why dont you just watch the video, and tell what you think then ::)

if you havent noticed, the topics onlyme posts in are pretty much just segways for him to start recounting tales of his awesome past. he's not concerned much about the actual topic. they usually include: 1) him having the best of whatever there was to offer at the time 2) hot chicks 3) possibly a pet of his
not that they arent entertaining, but thats just how he rolls

No...its an apartment. But rent is extremely high...as is the norm for los angeles. Buying a condo or house is gonna put you back atleast $500k for a small shitty space. Its not worth it.
For those of you who do not live here....a studio apt (400 sq ft room) in Playa del Rey (where we live) can run you about $1200 a month. This is a one bedroom...about 1800 sq ft. The show has only filmed in the lr and kitchen.
keep in mind..we are 2 blks from the beach, and live in a upscale gated community with all the amenities. You get what you pay for around here. And yes...I have "nested" the bachelor pad...but Bob and I have similar tastes so its all good.
Bob's money is nobody's business...he makes good money, let that be that. He does talk big, but has never lied about what he makes or what he ownes. He has a % of his income put into ira's, business investments, stocks, and a sizable savings acct. He is at a point now where he can pay for whatever he wants without financing...including a 70's model muscle car for me :-*. He is working on getting his retirement taken care of so he is not left personal training until he is 60.

What is the name Marina Del Ray?
Im serious I was thinking of moving to Miami but would love to move to Cali ( less humidity). What are some good apartment complex's in the area?
-
Only a moron throws money into a savings account without buying real property. Renting is money down the toilet. First thing any Financial Planner says is "Buy the most house you can afford". As for buying muscle cars, leasing luxury sedans, and the like, that just sounds like more style over substance. Bottom line is that if Mr. 300K bought a 1000sf condo 5 years ago for 200K, it'd be worth at least 600K today. Chances are his "Kiddie Savings Account" made him less than 1% interest. I know bodybuilders are supposed to be stupid, but not that stupid.
I mean, take a moron like Craig Titus. He may not know how to properly cover up a murder, but the guy knows how to invest. Rumor has it, his Titus Hedge Fund was recently acquired by Warren Buffett.

We live in Playa del Rey...it is near LAX. Marina del Rey is next to us. They are very similar except MDR is more for retirees. LOTS of OLD people. Archstone is the best apts to check out if you want to move here. They are upscale and well taken care of. Check out management companies around here...Playa has larger apts (sq ft wise), and has a better demographic than the other cities. Less children and families here....more career minded people 25-45 yrs old.

What you chose to do with your money is all you...Bob has a financial advisor who does his job well. He has invested his money well and has already made twice as much as he put in. Just because he didn't buy a house does not make him stupid. As for the muscle car...its for ME. Have you bought your girl anything of worth where you are not making payments every month? It is a gift...hand over the keys and drive away. Its not an investment. He has separate $$ for all that. He has enough to do both.
-
Wait a second...he bought a muscle car for you???? Was it a gift or a loan? Did he give you the title? Hmmm...I guess that means we'll be seeing him on People's Court trying to get the car back after you guys break up.
But if you get the title out from under his old treadmill, that's a nice snag. Tell us about the car. Lots of car nutz here...

It's an older treadmill.....but thats a Life Fitness. ::)
Even the older ones when they were brand new were not cheap.
User max weight is between 350-400lbs.
on a side note....Chick...get your hands off the bars....you're going to screw your lower back. Also as a suggestion....put 3 degrees incline on the elevation.
-
i bet he bought it for her after nailing some other airhead
;D
-
Certain segments of the muscle car market are red hot right now. This little purchase could be an expensive proposition. If he's smart he's only letting her drive it and keeping the title in his name.
-
onlyme why dont you just watch the video, and tell what you think then ::)
I'ts actually a nice looking condo. The square footage is actually pretty big for So Cal.
Not to defend Bob, but it's not bad & prolly pretty expensive.

Bob Chick has Donald Trump wash his Escalade....
...and he doesn't even tip him.

That is totally silly. Property canot keep going up indefinitely. Anyone worth their sense can tell you that California real estate is tremendously over priced. If Chic bought now he woul be buying at the top of the market. He's doing the smart thing by renting, saving his cash, and waiting for a house to get to realistic price levels.
Lesson for the day: Before the stock market crashed around the Great Depression, Joseph P Kennedy made it through with most of his money. When people asked how he escaped, he said he went to get his shoes shined and the shoe shine boy was offering stock tips. At that point he realized that if so many speculators were in the market, that stocks had to be way too overvalued. He sold his stocks and took his money out.
If every idiot is on TV talking about getting rich with real estate, the market is just too over hyped. I have degrees in both Real Estate and Finance but simple economics can tell you the same. The average family in Cali makes like 55k, so who is going to buy your 600K house? If prices went like this, our kids would have to buy houses for a Billion dollars....
Chic can soon buy a house at a song from all the idiots who fail to make their payment on the $350,000 on a $45,000 salary...

there's a difference between speculating in stocks (by definition, a short-term project) and investing in a home (a long-term project). Sure, it might be the top of an overheated market, and it might crash . . . but you're probably going to hold on to it for the next 20-30 years, and the value will definitely appreciate over the long haul. You will get a return on land, as they're not making any more of it.
Who's to say that the bond and stock markets aren't overheated just now . . . I personally don't think the latter is, but what do I know?
EDIT: prices are not going to get back to "realistic" levels unless a whole slew of industries collapse which doesn't seem likely at the present moment. they might correct a little bit as demand goes down, but a crash . . .
I agree that you shouldn't buy more house than you can afford, but you should still buy as much as you can.

It is a gift not a loan....we are still looking. There are so many that i want...i can't make up my mind (as usual) Of course the title is going to be in his name!!! Bob is generous...but not STUPID. We are not married...and i, as his girlfriend, would not expect it to be in my name. If we were ever to break up...we separate free and clear.
I am the muscle car buff, he prefers the classics. We are slowly buying up both. My dad has 3 muscle cars ('70 442 w-30, '71 chevelle ss, '72 442 conv.) all that are in my name. He is also on the waiting list for the '07 shelby mustang (at the tune of $125k). He will drive (show it off) for a year and send it my way. I currently drive a mustang. I am interested in the '67 - '70 model GTO, or the mustangs. I also wouldn't mind a early '70's model corvette. But Bob doesn't fit. He is going to look at a '70 firebird today...hopefully.
My ultimate dream car is 1970 hemi cuda convertible....V8. aaaaaahhhhh!!! Thats what turns me on!!!
-
Hemi's are trading in the hundreds of thousands. As far as muscle cars you don't want anything manufactured after 1970, insurance regulations strangled engine performance after that.
1969 Corvette Stingray 427 with triples rated at 435 hp is my ultimate muscle car.

Probably not even that long since 45% of those morons bought houses on interest only loans. In about 2-5 years I wouldn't be suprised to see a tremendous drop in price or tremendous rise in foreclosures in Cali. Can't wait myself cause I'm looking to get one for a decent price before I move back there.

I agree. If he was making 300k, he could get a loan for a house worth about a million with like zero down - or more depending on interest rates. Buy something - don't flush the savings on rent.

I know thats why its my "dream car". I can't afford one just yet.
The '67-'70 GTO factory engine is between a 389 and 455...up to 370 hp. I'm 5'2 and 115 lbs...thats alot of engine for a girl like me. I could always put a chip in the engine to add hp.

If Bob is paying 125k on the new 07 Shelby mustang, he's getting ripped off! They are supposed to go for around 50k, and even if there is a mark-up it shouldn't be that much. Hell, why don't he just get the C6 ZO6, much much better car.

haha come to Boston studio I repeat studio 1300 a month..... Thats the cheaper end! Theres no fun and sun here baby... Cold a shit in the winter hot as f**k in the summer.
I need to move :-\
I know what you mean, I agrew up and lived just north of Boston until I was 20 and went in the USMC years ago.
My mom still lives up that way and pays alot MORE for her 2 BR apt, than I do for my house mortgage note...go figure. I moved and will never go back, but I miss the culture up that way and the people, NOT the weather however ;) You need to move south, the Atlanta area is pretty nice overall, just my 2 cents.
As for Chic and what he makes or how he lives, in my book that would be 100% his own , private business. BUT he did bring it to public light when he did his bit on it.I believe that Chic is more sensible and better with his $$$ than most guys in the sport (Cutler appers to be really good at the business end). However, despite the fact that his apt is decent and in a nice area, it does kinda indicate that many in and around this sport tend to live less than stable , steady or secure lives. I know that when I was seriously into bodybuilding, I had no financial goals in the long term, nor the desire to buy any property, etc.Of interst here, Arnold is rumored to have made his first big bucks in real estate years before he made it big in movies, hmmmm. Jim Manion, pres of NPC was quoted saying something about that he gets a whole bunch of change of address forms, each and every year from his NPC members and that bodybuilders must be the "most moving around " bunch of folks he ever knew of.He was saying this in a light hearted way, but it does indicate some lifestyle choices. For instance at the last few shows I judged, I was the ONLY judge on the panel that makes his living in an area completely OUTSIDE of bodybuilding or fitness/nutrition.
This was not the case when I started in this sport years ago. Now it seems, everyone and his brother is selling supplements, personal training ,etc that gets seriously involved with this sport.
Maybe I am retarded ???or missing the boat, but to me, a stable career is one thing and bodybuilding a serious hobby I love, NOT the source of my livelyhood. Oh well, such is life.
Howard " an old fart in Ga " ;)

The biggest investment a rich man or a poor man will make in his life is his house. If your looked at the prices of houses for the past fifty years you will see some dips in the graph but the graph always goes up. How many houses in the past fifteen years have more than tripled in price. I can answer all of them in the NY/NJ area.
How someone spends their money is their buisness. I just have to say that I have seen to many guys come into money and the first thing they buy is an expensive car. More power to them if that's what they want. One thing to think of is that $50K dream car will be worth $25K in 3 to 4 years. Those who choose to rent a car with a lease will really get burned. If they rent a new 50K car every three years the lease will add up to mega bucks. I know a guy that added up the money he spent on leasing cars for the last 15 years and he could kick himself. If he would have bought two new cars in a 15 year period instead of renting 5 new cars in 15 years he would have saved a ton of money. What ever makes someone happy though.
I'm not commenting on any specific pro but their careers are short lived. They might make good endorsement deals for 5 to 10 years if they are lucky but then the money dries up.

NO NO NO!!! Read it again...I said dad NOT BOB. You know...your dad...the man who married your MOM and then created you!!! I'm not one of those chicks who calls their boyfriends daddy. UUUUGGGHHH!!! That is really sick!
Let me say this again...my FATHER is the one who has the muscle cars. BOB has classics. As far as the shelby...yea you can get the normal '07 shelby for 50 or 60k, but the genuine shelby 500 gt with all the bells and whistles are going for 125k. They are special order only and 200 will be made.

Oh, I know what you mean, my wife and I FINALLY made over 6 figures (combined ) the past few years. Thus we are secure but light years from being rich or wealthy. She made me see the value of buying a place and the tax savings alone from mortgage interest are worth it alone ( for those that don't know, you can deduct the $$$ you pay in interst on your mortage on your taxes each year ;).
I see a few bodybuilders make some decent bucks , but considering all they have to spend to support that lifestyle, I doubt few save any really substatial nest eggs to retire on , but who knows???? The wanna be and low tier pros on the pose for pay web sites, seem to get some fast bucks, but they also seem to piss it away or get money on a hit or miss basis with no real secure incomes or financial plans, etc
My wife and I splurged and got an RX-8 this past year, and we love it. BUT, it is no big $$$ classic car , with all the whistles and bells I got a good deal at a tad under 30K. I know that when I was young and seriously into bodybuilding, I never seemed to have a pot to pee in at the end of the day...go figure. Our big deal now is cruises we love it. So far Royal Carribean is the best,we are going again over spring break , next week, can't wait. It is due to cruiselines that I no longer care about winning anything other than Mr Podunk hehe. Seriously, I can't see spending a decent chunk of change just to put on a show for somebody else, when I can live like a king on the high seas on a luxery liner for a week , know what I mean :P
The point is I am just a humble physics teacher and avg Joe Blow bodybuilder with an avg house and loving wife (NO kids however and no plans for any thank you very much ;)
If we didn't make our own excitement I would be even more of a rambling troll -drone than I am now ( OMG my poor students have to listen to me in class...pray for them ;D
For all you younger guys that think a regular job with bennefits and avg house is "BS" or dull, I have been in your mindset and understand, trust me, I do :)
Build your career , education and credit up and ENJOY bodybuilding on your terms, be it "go for the pros", " Mr Podunk" or just train to get massive or cut looking, etc. Just my 2 cents and if a bum like me can do it, trust me ANYONE can.
Howard

i am with you howie....
I am not into over doing the material goods or bragging about what I have. I am just a regular chick, just got done with college, and in the "what to do now" phase. I personally...own my car along and a savings acct. and thats it. I am fortunate to have parents that are well off..and have made sure I will never suffer financially in my life. But it is still...their money. I have been taught hard work and making investments at an early age. At 24, I am a partner in a production company and just trying to make it like the rest of you. I am lucky to have Bob to back me up and support my decisions. I think that he and I do have a stable future ahead and we can begin to make investments together.
The cars are only a small hobbie that Bob and I share. Honestly guys...finding a chic that loves cars as much as you do is RARE.
hey...what part of ga are you in?

I don't think you shoot tamper with Chics game is my concern hehehe.
Anyhooooo, based on your past behavior logic, what are the Las vegas odds of me keeping off the donuts for the next few months and getting up on stage this summer or...ever again ???

Just to play devil's advocate for a moment, wtf does a single guy want to do with a house? It's just extra time & trouble and responsibility. An apartment requires less time & maintenance and if there's a problem, that's what the landlord is there for. Chicks (women, not Bob Chicks) usually want a house so they can "nest" in it and cozy it all up & shit and make a honeydew list a mile long every weekend for their man to fix every damn thing that breaks on a regular basis. Just another point of view to consider.
a house builds equity making more money in the future. thats how titus starting making money before he was burning people. wasn't his contest winning he was trying to liquidate in MA

No reason ever to lease a car unless you have or own business or you can write it off your taxes.

Owning property is everyone's dream but if you're a couple with no kids like bob and tasha renting a modest place and investing in other things making a higher, faster return can make more sense so that when you do buy a place you can walk in with a higher proportion of the value of the house upfront and less interest to pay to eventually own it.
Property values will always trend upwards over the long term but if you're borrowing most of the value of the house sit down one day and figure out how much interest you'll wind up paying over the course of the mortgage and you might get a big fright... better to have as much of the value of the house upfront as possible and borrow less... works providing you're not renting at a high rate

My bad, I thought you needed encouragement to express yourself, but apparently you need to learn to understand sentences written in English first
Ouch. The irony. This should be "you first need to understand sentences written in English." There, professor, fixed it for ya. ;D

Have to admit that it is indeed ironic--a lot more ironic than you think . . . it's a good thing you don't know what my "occupation" is ;D
You fixed the sentence so you obviously understood the sentence. Thats irony.
my sentence is understandable, but the way i structured it technically completely alters its meaning. Dr. chimps knows his sentence structure, although a quick glance at his "recent posts" reveals that he has a tendency to invent words . . . "relatavistic" "regimine" :P

I'm guessing you say this because the "only" gyms in BLYTHE are Body Zone and Curves for Women.
What the f**k do you do in Blythe anyway? Except for the prisons and school board, there are hardly and jobs that match your "intelligence" level. JWB, That's why anyone with a little knowledge pre pays the mortgage to keep the bank from making excessive profit on the loan. For you young guys if you have a 30 year fixed traditional mortgage you will have 360 monthly payments. For the point of conversation lets say you are paying the bank $1000 bucks minus taxes. Payment one of the 360 monthly payments could be $980 dollars going toward interest and $20 going toward paying the loan. The ratios change every month until the last payment at 360 months is $980 towards principal (paying off the loan) and $20 going towards interest. The way you beat the bank is to pay your mortgage bill and then pre pay the mortgage with a seperate extra check going towards principal only. It will move you down the amortization ratios so more of your monthly payment will go towards principal. I have know guys that go into a new developement and buy a new house as soon as the construction trailer pops up. They keep the house for a year and turn it over for a $100,000 dollar profit. Sometimes they don't even move in. When closing they flip the house to another buyer. Houses have appreaciated faster than the stock market, money market, and bonds over the past 20 years. Please don't tell me about an individual stock that hit the lottery. I'm talking about stocks as a whole.
Howie, The write off on interest will save you on taxes but it isn't that great. It isn't a dollar per dollar savings but a percentage. Pay off your house while your house appreciates.

Not bad logic and one possible option to invest, BUT in my experience, your net worth in terms of what credit you command , etc almost requires a major asset like a house in your name.

"has nothing to do with being a single guy/girl, it's strictly how much money you make. homes in california appreciate no matter what, and if you can afford one (making 300k qualifies) then you should buy one. you will make money when you sell the home. renting means spending money you will never see again, while the landlord gets their mortgage paid and then some."
The previous post to this comment was trying to make the point about responsibilty - why would a single person want the responsiblity that comes with owning property? You missed the point by miles - sure, earning 300K you can afford a house in southern CA, but there are those that don't need the headache, regardless of how great the landlord makes out from the deal. Try and stay on topic.
