The great thing about fans is that you can talk shit to 2% of them, and be nice to the other 98%.
-
Such intensity and focus ::)

How can he be so big yet completely uninteresting to watch in the gym?
He makes training videos seem like paint drying.

This has been the same deal for 10 years now. It works for him.

We are rapidly approaching the bodybuilding singularity: where the drugs will be so effective that it will actually hinder you to train. You "prep" will be about eating and your perfectly timed drug regimen. The rest of the time will be about staying at your basal metabolic rate and letting the drugs do their magic.

I just like seein the shots of the inside. Damn those were the days. Fun as hell. It looks nothing like it used to except the paneling. Was a blue color and not maintained at all. It had all very old school equipment of course. When I think back I think of it as the golds of the Midwest. I remember moving from my little rural PA town being one of the big fish in a small bowl gym then walking in to manions one days and was in shock. I'd never seen so many huge guys that looked like aliens compared to the normal person. Soon I'd be working there and oh the fun times. I came I near the tail end of the gym. I think when I got there it was to last two to three more years. I can't remember. I only know Jim as a great guy and was always nice to me. He was going thru the process of selling it to some local rich kid who although really nice kid Kevin and then its demise slowly came to be. Man what a hotbed of local bodybuilders. There were two squat racks. One was right where the Dumbbells are where cheath is sitting concentration curling. The other the opposite side of the room. Manions was on the second floor. Underneath was a post office. Oh man they'd come up bitching that plaster was falling on their heads from people dropping weights. Some funny shit!!!!oh the stories. When I see people that worked out at manions today it's like u were old platoon buddies. Everyone looks back on those days as such fun times.
-
It feels sacrilegious to see all that newer equipment in the old manions gym.

Phil already has the drug timing down. How the fuck do you "grow into" a show and lose BF at the same time? -lol Looks like he may be doing it different this year though... he stayed big in the off season.

Dude, Check Phil's first DVD from 2006. He has trained the same way. For him, nothing has really changed over the years. This works for him. His "boring" workouts gets him results, and no major injuries so far.
-
Hard physical work is not required in modern bodybuilding. It's all about massive abuse of anabolic drugs and taking insulin "correctly" pre- and post-workout.
In the gym, pump up with some random machines and dumbells, and then get back to injecting and popping.
Heath is nothing more than a severely (and superficially) overinflated "champion".
Without his drugs and pump sessions, the guy would begin to dramatically shrink within weeks, if not days.
No lie. There's a serious manlet bodybuilder at my gym. Stands maybe 5'2. Maybe. He's extremely jacked most of the time. Massive. Recently there was a gap of no more than seven days when I hadn't seen him. Then, two days ago, when I'm at the gym squatting, there he is.
I swear his overall volume of muscular mass had shrunk by half.
I am not kidding. Half.
In no more than one or two weeks.
Phil's fate is identical.
-
Oh, there's that bag of smashed assholes I misplaced. Thanks!
-
How times have changed.
-
Is that Phil Heath, or Uncle Phil from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air?
Shave that beard dude.
-
compared to ronnie and Dorians training videos he looks remarkably unimpressive training on video
-
Spot on post, totally agree.

All these overboard workouts with terrible form are what lead to the injuries and not being able to move at 50. I think there can be a balance. Watching lee Haney train was inspiring. He worked hard but didn't train stupid. I think a lot of it today is drugs which is why they look so terrible and wrf kind of drugs do they have in the middle east

I find it inspiring everytime I see Ronnie roll out of the hospital after having yet another verteba fused or removed.

After the drugs and food, some marginal and minimal sort of weight training is necessary to create this physique. Otherwise they wouldn't bother. It is nothing more than a nuisance requirement chore to these guys.

They don't even seem like they like training. Say what you want but Dana Linn Bailey and even Kai Greene get into their workouts like they love the iron.

The epitome of all drugs.

narrow, small, and fucked up.

I don't think it's only his technique I am feeling negative about, I think it's his frame and muscles, coupled with his face that makes it unbearable for me.
If Paul Dillet sat there doing slow curls, I could most definitely watch it.
I mean, I like to watch Jay walk around his house and talk about his dog. And to watch Ronnie sit and eat chicken for 15 minutes lol.
What can I say, I'm just a hater

What do u suggest him to do to impress u? Bench 500 pounds for reps, deadlift 800, or squat 600??
Dallas macarver is a bber that comes to mind who lifts extremely heavy, I doubt his body will hold up
This is bbing not powerlifting, who cares about heavy lifting if u can do 4 plates on the hammer strength and get results
-
I have had girlfriends who worked harder than him. Thats some boring video.

Will you chill out, man.
No, he doesn't have to move tremendous weight in the gym, but for me, as with musicians, I need to see some passion for the activity.
An inkling of intensity, focus and heart.
Heath is just ... nothing.
-
Phil doing one arm concentration curls with 65LB dumbbells is pretty impressive

Fortress is correct. Phil doesn't have to lift like a powerlifter. However, there is something pretty awesome when you see bodybuilders train hard. I mean, all the guys from the 70's trained HARD and they did not end up like Ronnie Coleman. Heck, Dorian Yates, despite some minor injuries, looks good to this day, and trained hard. There is something to be said about those who train hard and have passion. On the other hand, you're right in the sense that if Phil can lift light and only use machines and get good results, why does it matter? I guess it really doesn't. However, he is the epitome of ALL drugs, and if he is proud of training like shit, then that's his business--as you said, as long as he gets results.
Its not powerlifting, but it doesn't mean people don't like to see passion and intensity. Phil is boring and looks like he is going through the motions when he trains--it looks like he doesn't even want to be there. Sad that someone with such a poor work ethic is Mr. O because of his genetic response to drugs. It just goes to show how bbing has become ALL drugs.
-
It obviously works for him. Who gives a fuck how he trains. It least I don't.
-
I'd rather train like Phil if I don't have to end up looking like how Ronnie does now. While what Ronnie did was nothing short of amazing, in the end we all now see that it is not the correct way to train long term if you'd like to stay in good health. Stimulate, don't annihilate - Lee Haney
Read this interview with Lee Haney about his training and you'll see examples of how light he trained for the purposes of saving his body. http://www.ironmanmagazine.com/are-you-stimulating-or-annihilating/
Lee may have only went as high as 315 on squats but Lee hasn't had to go through multiple painful surgeries. Lee can run, walk play sports and has his health. No offense to Ronnie but while we may have seen one of the greatest physiques of all time, at what cost? While Ronnie says he doesn't regret it. Any intelligent SANE person can see Haney's way is more desirable and healthy for the bodybuilder in the long run. Haney is right and has his body to show for it. Haney is the greatest.

How do work biceps harder? Screaming yealling? I think he doing some nice strikt form making that biceps work 100%
Been doing that same shit for 2 years now, strict lower weights, high volyme and arms are best ever!

I basically do the same thing. After almost 40 years of training ,all you need to do is get blood into the area.

yeah right.. No offence but no one shrinks that fast even if they are all drugs. I have quit cold turkey and stopped go to the gym and in maybe 4 weeks people can see im alittle bit smaller and after 5months i look lkne a regular guy..but beeingreally jacked as you say he is no way you can see thst much difference in 7 days.

Actually fortress is wrong, who cares
At the end of the day Phil has 5 O wins so far and Jay has 4, not even debating if they are better bbers than the 90's guys, but the end outcome is all that matters
-

Well, I guess in this case, there is no right or wrong, since people have different training philosophy and methods.
Yes, the end outcome is all that matters, but people reach that end outcome by different ways, and have different beliefs about how to obtain that. Every person is correct in that sense, depending on their own philosophy of training.
So, subjectively Fortress is right, but is not necessarily right from an objective standpoint.

I'd agree with you, but then, this recent example of which I speak has really thrown me for a loop.
He literally deflated in one or two weeks.
Dramatically so.
-
Heath does what works for him so I can't hate on that.
But yeah, watching his workouts are a cure for insomnia.
-
LOL at all the schmoes getting angry at how Phil Heath lifts weights.
DOWIANN AN WONNIE WAZ SOOO STWONNNG :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

His entire workout looks like a warm-up. There is no intensity to his movements, no desire, no heart. I am all about strict form and not a fan of grunting either.

I don't think it's that. When you watch the top guy train you want to see what makes him the best. People who love the iron want to at least see some intensity and drive. People love watching Steph Currys warm up routine because he gets into it.
I certainly don't want to see more overboard videos with screaming and horrible form but at least look like you're interested
-
Bloofy insulin and synthol muscles of peace.

He looks like a professional bodybuilder performing an efficient workout. Not to mention it's an arm workout, which isn't going to be flashy or "N-10s".
Just because he was mentioned in this thread, here's a Dallas McCarver arm workout. It looks pretty much the same as Phil Heath's. Any more into it than this and the person deserves to be shot.

Very strange. Even a super twink like me doesn't shrink that much after stopping AAS. Even if I am running short esters it still takes a few days to clear. So effectively like 3 days without drugs and he loses half his size? Maybe you found a bigger twink than me haha
-
He's worthless! He's a waste of space!
I've seen senior citizens train harder than him
All those drugs and still narrow as ever! Nice bird chest!
