I had it when I was ten years old believe it or not.   usually an adult thing.    still have scars from it.

Are you sure that wasn't chickenpox? I had chickenpox when I was 28. They say there's a pretty good chance of shingles after 50.

Had it at age 30, fortunately over my ribs and not my face.  Very painful.  Lasted about a week.  Getting on antivirals early helped.  I don't have lasting scars, but get phantom nerve pain over the site sometimes -- especially when I'm fighting a cold.

I believe it's the same virus (chicken pox and shingles) if you had chicken pox you carry the potential for shingles in your body forever...forever.

I have it on my back. Now my skin feels really sensitive on the right side of my ribs. I've been on the antiviral for about 3 days now.

Had it summer of 2010 when I was 32. Sucked like a guy. Was mostly on my neck/face. Couldn't shave for a while. Went away with 0 scarring. My mom also had it a few month ago at 69. It didn't last long for her either. Just ride it out and take the meds and use the creams. You'll be fine in no time.

ya,  I'm sure.  I had chicken pox when I was 4 or 5.   they aren't even close looking or feeling. chicken pox is a breeze compared.  and yes I know it's extremely rare for a child to get it.  the drs. really wanted to make sure because they had never seen it in  a child before.

Take a cotton pad and soak them in apple cider vinegar!! You're welcome. Had them and 2nd flare up I soaked the area in apple cider vinegar and it didn't get to the bubbling stage and went away within 2 days minimal itching/pain.

That's great. Thanks. My wife has been using alcohol and hydrocortisone but now it's gone from an itch to pain to the touch.

If it doesn't interfere with any medication you might be taking, St John's Wort is a specific antiviral for shingles. Works well to prevent it and reasonably quickly during an attack.

My best friend's started with toothache then earache, then deafness in one ear!  Just one side of his face and neck, nowhere else.  Couldn't taste food properly for ages either.  Doc said he was lucky it didn't affect his eye!  :o :o,! Wouldn't wish it on anyone - get well soon Coach!  :)

ps - of course, you all know that it's brought on by an under pressure immune system - so get those zzzzz's in guys...

Coach, you're at a high risk of heart attack or stroke in the coming weeks as the shingles go away -

http://articles.latimes.com/2014/jan/02/science/la-sci-shingles-increases-heart-stroke-20140102

Watch that closely.   I recall you saying your BP is up there.   Time to go vegan, drop 30 pounds, and maybe start meditating/yoga.

I'm looking fwd to mocking your Trump defense over the next 6 months.  Can't have you keeling over!

BP was good when I went to the dr with no need for meds. Will never go vegan the health benefits are a myth but I started dieting and training consistently.

Let me know if the apple cider works for you. I think you need to leave the soaked cotton swab on for 30min at a time. My lesion was on my stomach and back so I used tape to keep them pressed against my body. Worked wonders but an absolutely terrible thing to get. It's ugly, nasty when it all bubbles up ready to explode and painful and itchy as hell. I didn't have it for my first lesion that appeared and went through the entire process but for the second outbreak the apple cider destroyed it.

I definitely will. I told my wife about this and she said we had some in the house. I'm going to try it tonight. Dr. has me on Valtrex and the potential side effects are worse than the problem itself. Thank you for that.

I wish I would have known about that back in 1975.  as a kid, I remember thinking that the breakout on my shoulder looked like a little pizza. there were more spots on my back as well, but the shoulder was the worst.   I believe it primarily strikes one side of the body only.   I still have a weird nervey feeling in the scar on my shoulder if I touch it.  the dr. explained to me that the nerve endings would inflame and pop thru the surface of the skin.  not sure if that is accurate or not, but would explain the pain.

Trump is not good for your health.   He's a democrat, and your continual defense of his antics will leave your immune system weakened.

Two of my friends had shingles. Both very painful and lasted for months. Kenny had it on his face near his eye. Dana on her back and side, needed prescription pain meds just to sleep.

Hope yours is not so severe.

google says shingles is also known as herpes zoster.  It's like herpes' cousin.

http://www.lifeextension.com/protocols/infections/herpes-and-shingles/page-02

So while you're right - coach admits he has an ailment called herpes zoster - it's not technically the herpes that gets from kissing democrats.
