Title: Former White House official slams Obama:'I think he left a more dangerous world'
Post by: loco on April 19, 2017, 04:58:32 AM
A former Obama administration National Security Council staffer, Barry Pavel, slammed the previous president's policies in Syria on Fox News Monday, saying that Obama's inaction led to unstable situation. He also praised President Donald Trump's April 4 missile strike in Syria.

"I think [Obama] left a more dangerous world," Pavel said. "Potential adversaries know we had the capability, but not the will. Because they knew that the Obama administration would never use military force for any purpose, they felt free to conduct their coercive actions in the South China Seas, the Russians went into Iran and Syria and North Korea accelerated their nuclear arms program."

I completely agree.  Started his presidency with the world butt-kissing tour, almost singlehandedly destabilized the Middle East, signed a horrible deal with Iran that could lead to WWIII, and stuck a knife in Israel's back on his way out the door.  Unmitigated disaster.

The only action he could have taken would have been illegal...just like Trumps action

And of course, if he did what Trump did then the very Republicans that are no praising Trump probably would have tried to impeach Obama

You know what's weird though, Trump seems to be ok with the Iran deal.

I also think I read that they were complying with the agreement today as they were previously. I dunno, I always say that I have no idea what the right course is for Iran. I would probably be like Syria and say, you guys have at it.

Yeah he flip flopped on that one.  I think part of what happens with these people is they talk out of school while running for office, then get in and realize it's a lot more complicated than they anticipated (e.g., Obama saying he would shut down Guantanamo, Trump saying he would declare China a currency manipulator, etc.).

Regarding Iran, this deal is horrible.  If we don't do something, that region is going to blow up into a full scale war that involves us.  Israel is likely going to take some kind of preemptive action before the ten-year period runs under the agreement.  Once they do that, we're going to have a tremendous conflict to deal with.  We will have to support our ally.  Iran is going to respond.  One or more Muslim countries might support Iran.  Going to be a huge mess.

If I ruled the world, I would just let all those folks shoot at each other and stay out of it, but unfortunately that's not the world we live in.

Your eventual outcome with a full scale war is very possible. From that perspective, absolutely the Iran deal is a problem.

I would be like you... I would stay out of it and let them blow each other to bits. Their problem and let them fix it.

It's something Rep. Ted Lieu has essentially predicted.  He thinks Israel will strike at some point.  War is just the logical outcome.

About the Middle East, I wish we could walk away.  That place is like Humpty Dumpty.  (I'm not sure I've ever typed that. lol)

I wish we could too. Let them just fight it out.
