I thought about that. Because of his ego, I think he won't risk running and losing. No matter what he says, I would hope he is aware of his approval rating and what has been happening in some races that were supposed to go to a Republican but didn't. I think there are 2 things that will weigh on his mind. 4 years of not being always able to do what he wants, although he sure has blown all the previous presidents golf and vacation times out of the water in his 1st year, he is constantly scrutinized. It would get old for most people, I sure wouldn't want the hassle of Secret Service going everywhere with me as a billionaire playboy. Next, he doesn't want to risk a loss. If he runs, he stands the chance of getting embarrassed. I don't see him doing that. I see him going out "on top" by giving some speech about how he has been the greatest ever, he's fixed everything and there is nothing left for him to accomplish. He will be around 75 then.. I think his point might be.. You're right, I don't care if Trump screwed around on his wife, or wives multiple times before he became president. But if you are going to be a party where you are afraid for the sanctity of marriage because gays want to marry, and you have a platform built on an image of moral superiority, then you probably should care that your candidate did.
You make a fair point that merits a more thoughtful response which at present I am not prepared to give as I was called in to work today. I will address this later when I get home.

Once you make this step what's to prevent one to now allowing other forms of marriage such as polygamy or brother/sister marriage?

Being a Libertarian I would think you would be against passing laws in support of same sex marriage. Gays have been getting married for decades. I remember a friend showed me the invitation he got for
Bob Paris' marriage. People are free to live as they want as long as they do not infringe on the rights of
others. It's one thing for Bob and Rod to live as they want but it's quite another to force society to
accept and honor it. Just do what you want. Put a pink bow on your cat and call her your wife just don't force me to accept and honor it. It was stunning to me when it first started happening but now I'm used to the answer when a christian friend or acquaintance of mine starts talking about something related to the bible and I ask them if they have ever actually read the bible cover to cover. I've met very few, very few that can say they have. For someone who believes that is the word of their god, I find that odd.

Trying to figure out biblically what an answer is can be difficult as there were many different authors and some contradict what others say. That's why there are so many denominations. I would say that in my opinion based on what I read in the bible, Bill Clintons adultery and Donald Trumps adultery are the same. But as a United States citizen, I find Bill Clintons adultery while in the Oval Office and as President, more egregious than a reality TV stars adultery.

I'm in the mood to sin today. Was thinking about giving the ol' Thou Shalt Not Take My Name In Vain one a go.... so tell me which is the greater sin.. if I say "god damn" is it greater than saying "god darn"? Do I need to say it to someone or does just muttering it under my breath count too? Saying it women is a bit lesser right? Because the Bible saying they are property and all. Really need to know how to get the most bang for my buck here.

My opinion is because intelligence doesn't trump religious dogma in 2018. It is much better than it was in 1998 and even better than it was in 1888 but we still have a ways to go. There are actually people out there, in many areas the majority, who WILL NOT VOTE FOR AN ATHEIST no matter their policies or party. Now you can get a pretend christian like Trump, and as long as he pretends to be anti abortion and occasionally mentions god, and I mean rarely... the christian right will fall all over themselves and vote for him, regardless of his morals and ethics. It's actually sickening to watch

As a fellow unrepentant Agnostic for over 20 years (much to the horror of my Catholic parents) we may not be that far in regard to our reasoning process even though we come to quite different ideas. But you are quite right, in any system based on faith, rather than proof, emotions play a large part in one's conclusions. I've seen this played out many times in real life. Even my own father, who was far superior insofar as pure cognitive abilities, would grow angry and frustrated when his cognitive dissonance was clearly proven by his own reasoning. A typical example would be the issue of abortion which Catholics believe is murder. Though they may say that. Think they believe that. They don't really. Not by their own reasoning when posed with some basic questions about life and the taking of an innocent life.
And though I believe that some may not vote for an Atheist no matter what. I don't believe it's the majority. At least when it comes to Conservatives. I think Conservatives takes a more realistic approach to issues. Gun control is a typical one. Most Conservatives accept the fact that in life it's not always between good and bad but between bad and worse. Trump wasn't my first choice but when the alternative was Hillary, it wasn't even close.
And I never presume to know a man's heart. And neither should you nor anyone else. I would not be so fast to call someone a "pretend" this or that.

I agree with 90% of your post. Where we part in opinion is I said in "some" areas the majority will not vote for an Atheist. I can tell you that in most parts of Oklahoma you won't find an atheist in office. They just can't bring themselves to vote for an atheist. An atheist to them equals satan. And as far as presuming to know a mans heart, I certainly disagree and so would Jesus. The bible says "They will know you by your fruit" and that is certainly true. You can tell me all day long you are a good person, but if you are constantly breaking into homes, robbing convenience stores, and dealing meth, I can use some deductive reasoning to determine you really aren't. In regards to Trump, as Josh McDowell used to ask, or maybe it was C.S. Lewis, "if you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?" and I think Trump would walk on those charges.

this is getting ludicrous. Pellius and Lurknomore are both intelligent, articulate individuals. What seems to have happened is nitpicking has taken over the discussion,. Can we all (including myself and including several threads) just take a breath, back up and realize we are simply stating our opinions here and the mere fact someone doesn't agree with your opinion doesn't make them inferior or stupid, it just means they don't share the same philosophy, ideology or opinion. I've been guilty of this as well and it's really ridiculous to find myself getting sucked into insult trading during the exchange of ideals.

Actually you said, "in many areas the majority" and "many" is more than "some" but, hey, who's counting? Either way I will concede the point that anyone running for political office will be at a considerable disadvantage because; as much as atheist and those on the Left like to deny it, unless it suits their agenda (like now), this is still a predominantly Christian country founded on Judeo/Christian ethics.
And though you presume to speak for Jesus only Jesus knows what's in a man's heart. You give an example of how you can determine one's heart by their behavior -- their fruit, as it were. Yes, you can
judge a person's behavior but not necessarily their heart -- their intention. Their motivation.
I really doubt that Pol Pot or Hitler got up every morning and said to themselves, "OK, so how can
I make the world a more miserable place? How can I increase human suffering?" They believe they were making for a better world. Killing 1 out 3 of his own people was a price that Pol Pot was willing to pay.
Probably more harm has been done in this world by people convinced they were doing good. "The road to hell is pave with good intentions" is indeed a truism.
That's why I would defend Mike O'hearn here for his charity work. People here are convinced that he is
doing it just to promote himself and his reputation and as an excuse to display his triceps. Maybe they are right. I don't know. I don't know what is in his heart. All I do know is that he is making a positive
difference in other people's lives. Far, far more than those who do nothing but criticize him. Who cares if a doctor wants to find a cure for cancer just so he can win a Nobel prize and have a legacy even if he really doesn't give a crap about people with cancer?
I would much rather have someone do a good thing for selfish reasons then bad things with the best of
intentions. Obviously we all want pure thoughts and pure actions but since I don't presume to know what's in a man's heart I always judge a person by their actions and leave their soul to God.
