from my recent experience a darker porcelin tile is key with dark grout.... anything steel grey or lighter will show all the dirt hard to keep , clean. you can only get away with lighter shit if it quartz or marble

Maybe back-splashes are less prone to getting dirty grout. I have a white subway tile back-splash in the kitchen, with a medium to light gray grout and it's fine so far.
my bad i shouldve clarified im talking about flooring, and bathroom n shower walls need dark tile

In that case, I agree with you 100%. When my daughter and son-in-law picked the finishes for their en-suite, they chose a black and white mosaic pattern with white grout for the floor, like you sometimes see in older homes. Although my son-in-law is good about sealing it, they told me that they wished they would have chosen a gray much like I have on the kitchen back-splash.
The shower is in white subway tile like the kitchen but with a band of the mosaic for and accent. this is also white grout. The shower has a pre-made floor pan because we could cut into the floor joist and we didn't want to raise the shower floor. So no grout there.
Here's a photo of the bath remodel before it was completed, but the grout is done.
yes that looks like shit u need large dark tiles with a bit of that lighter swirl in the stone. those floorwill get filthy with white grout

In most cases, you'd be right. My daughter is an obsessively clean freak. She's probably upstairs scrubbing that floor with a old toothbrush right now. Don't tell her I said this. ;D

Toilet bowl cleaner works great on grout.

Doesn't have to be Clorox or have bleach to work. Use the nozzle to draw a fine line in the grout lines, wait 5 mins., wipe up. Use a soft scrub brush on tough spots.

Good to know. Once it's clean, seal it. There are stain proof grouts available. -Not sure how well they work.

If plasterboarding an old stud wall that was previously lath and plaster and likely to not be very straight, use tapered edge boards meant for dry lining even if you intend to skim with plaster, it stops the unevenness of the wall where the boards meet showing through on the plaster board
