Racist.  Actually they have a bunch of red or gold stripes to signify which degree of black belt. ::)  This guy must be a super tough guy I guess that's why he is a great grand master.

No joke my dads beat Fred villaris ass many years ago.middle of the road street fight in mass.ive mentioned this before on here.

It was right in front of me but it was 28ish years ago.All I remember is that guy going down.

I think the story goes that a belt became darker/dirtier with use so that a longtime expert's belt was "black".

Nowadays a red belt is after a black.  Connotes a "master", usually the founder of the style.

Black belt just means you met the minimum requirements for proficiency which is why they have different degrees of black belts.

Villari and Bob Meserve schools were big in New England when I was growing up.
I went to Meserve's school for a few years (just to green belt) but they did let us spar full-contact. (Of course w/ pads).

Then it turned more into dance-class, so we quit... (Memoriza kata's and all that crap). ::)
