Title: Ireland for Saint Patrick’s day?
Post by: Irongrip400 on January 26, 2020, 03:24:24 PM
I turn 40 next year and was thinking about Ireland because I’ve wanted to go and this would give me a reason. Maybe stay at Ashford Castle or something. Anyway, it’s smack dab in the middle of Saint Patrick’s day so I wanted to know is it too wild around then to be able to go? I don’t want to get sucked into the whole pub crawl thing or not be able to experience it because of a bunch of drunks. I was thinking about going for 5-7 days. Thanks in advance.

No, I’m just not trying to wade through masses of people who are hammered.

I went to Ireland this past year.  Loved it. Beautiful country.  The people were really nice.  Ate a lot of fish.

Nah, it is bloody good fun. Go to one of the villages that are pretty small (Kildysart etc....), and pray the gypsies send their gorgeous female singer.......stay in a local BnB at the village, much more fun. Dude, if you go there single and foreign and not diseased, you will have sex. With something. Grab a guiness hat.....

Married, and going with my wife. Wouldn’t fuck around anyways, I guess I’m just old fashioned like that.

Have you been to Kildysart? Clare?

Jude,
It’ll be extremely busy for paddy’s day. Insane amount of drinking - if you don’t want to see drunks everywhere then avoid Dublin. All towns will be busy though.
I see it falls on a Tuesday this year - it’s a national holiday so a lot of people will be off work and out drinking. It’s quite a messy affair and I’m not a huge fan unless I plan on getting shitfaced it’s not much fun otherwise because everyone is pissed and you need to be on their level if nomsayin cuz

Avoid Drogheda

I visited for ten days with a navy bud.  We rented a car and stayed at B&Bs except when with my family in the North.

Drove north from Dublin, crossed to the west, and drove south to Shannon. The CLIFFS OF MOHER, BABY!

You ask for a pint, and you’ll get it 5-10 minutes later, because the bartender lets the head drop so he can fill it to the rim.  At restaurants the waitress gives you the bill only after you ask for it.  A fantastic place, you’ll love it.
