Title: why would anyone NOT work out?
Post by: JOHN MATRIX on April 18, 2006, 02:55:32 PM
i dont understand why anyone -guys especially- would not work out in some form. it makes you look better, feel better, and it is enjoyable.

me and one of my brothers lift and have put some quality mass on our skinny frames, but my other brother is boneskinny as hell hes 18, 5-11 120, i always try to get him to lift with me, try to get him to do something, tell him it would be so easy to improve yourself, but he wont have any part of it. just sits there playing online anime fantasy games all day long drinking coffee.

maybe im just way too appearance conscious, but i dont get why anyone would not lift, its so easy to improve yourself and there are no drawbacks that i can think of.

Agreed, it takes little time, its enjoyable, you look better and get stronger, you're healthier(in one way),etc. etc.
Cardio, on the other hand, I can see why the average joe would not want to do..

Your brother (the one that doesnt lift) should enter the next IFBB show.  If he's nice to Jim Manion he'll get a trophy and a top 5 placing.

Some people feel exhausted after working out. I work out sometimes, but I actually feel better after a long run. A hard workout just leaves me feeling weak.

i dont know why they wouldnt. for me...i dont care at all about strength. its not why i workout...to me its all about getting as big as possible.    if i had to choose either being 250 with low body fat (LIKE 4%) and can bench 1000 or being 300 low body fat (like 4%) and ebing extremely weak..like benching 135...i owuld chooose 300 lbs.      i guesss im juist very self concious?

Its tough for some folks to go to the gym CONSISTENLTY. Ive been training for 10 years now.  I cant stop. lol.. Then there are folks that will go for 6 months and take off for 2-3 months...those are the folks that always look the same.

Getting started is tough for some folks....

Take your brother, maybe he'd feel like like crap walking into the gym with you....he is the weak, nerd brother and the thought of the work to match you is daunting...

Maybe, he is intimidated by the the thought of working out with you and seeing how much stronger you are and how little he can do...

For women, the often quoted "I don't want to get bulky" is why they don't work out....had a woman say that to me and she had an ass the size of a rhino....I guess that doesn't count?

Somedays, it sucks to work out...you're tired, feel weak, and nothing goes well....BUT when you are finished it feels great just to be done.  And yes, there is a vainity factor...I admit it.

It is my experience that many successful people work out but for fun, health, stress release , etc.
Bodybuilding in the  pure sense is still a cult type activity.

They just don't get it.

Just like how I don't get how guys just run a few miles a day, don't work out, and long all sorts of scrawny and all.  Do they think that looks good?  They look like 80 year old men.  Some things will never make sense to others.

Hmmm, in my best bodybuilding shape (contest wise) I was almst always lacking financial security and many apsects of my overall life were less than ideal. I have not competed in over a decade but am more happy and secure than ever...go figure.

A lot of those scrawny runner , exex types are very happy, wealthy men with wonderful full lives!
Can you say the same about most serious bodybuilders??

Most people don't lift. Most people don't do cardio. Most people don't exercise period. Its hard work and takes discipline if you expect any real results.

Dude that's so similar to my 17yr old brother, I think he just doesn't like to sweat plus he's got a good looking giirlfriend so he's pretty content. My other brother and I lift quite often and try to drag his ass there, He say's he doesn't want to stunt his growth but I keep telling him he ain't getting any taller... the dream is OVER!

some people become so out of shape they eventully become hopeless...and they adopt the mantra, "oh, who cares. i might as well, im going to die anyway" and they recite it over and over again as they shovel sh*t into their fat hole day after day

If you want to score with babes without needing any game to speak of - lift.  Simple.

Even better, just be a twirp or fat slob with lots of money. That brings in the hostest babes bar none.

I just started working construction, (drywalling, etc...),after a 12+ hours shift of that bullshit I can barely walk let alone think about going to the gym. It sucks to have to almost stop training after the years I've put into it but other prioities come up in life sometime. Now I just train on the weekends but the workouts arent the same as going throughout the whole week because the gym is packed and other reasons.

Other people look a tit like, you work hard in life, you'll die one day anyway, why create more hardship for yourself just for bigger arms, legs, etc?

Hey , hitting it hard and heavy once a week will allow you to make some gains or at least maintain some decent strength and size if that weekend work is hard and tough.
To mne working out is a labor of love. I mean, c'mon you sure work up a sweat doing the horizontal mambo, but it sure is worth it huh ;)

You know, most people only work out each muscle group once a week anyway, even though it's broken up into a 3 or 4 day split.  Why would his results be any less only working out on weekends?  He could do back/biceps Saturday morning, legs Saturday evening, and chest/shoulders/tris on Sunday.

Ironically, your skinny lazy brother will probably outlive you because skinny people live the longest.  If I didn't work out I would go crazy or want to kill myself.  A lot of people have never experienced the exhilaration or "high" of exercise and only associate it with pain.  Poor fuckers......

Very true.....I have out of shape friends that are married and constantly tell me, "what do I need the gym for?  I'm married, working, have a home, etc....why do I need to go kill myself in the gym when I'd rather be home relaxing."   Simple as that.   Of course everyone would rather be inshape, but if that means they gotta skip American Idol to go to the gym they ain't doin it.

Most people also feel they have to get in shape before they go to the gym to get in shape......it's that invisible audience that petrifies them.   I could give two squirts what anyone around me is doin or how they look.....they ain't me so screw em.   That mentality is learned through personal experience....you gotta dissolve the invisible audience before you can move forward.....the body follows the mind.

In a nutshell...they're fuggin scared and lazy.

That's interesting, but At the same time is really hard to discuss in a b.b fans site!!!!
I know people that are extremelly wealthy ,young, nice cars, lots of girls and they find working out so insignificant that u woudn't believe it!

Specially those "tools" from popular groups as  Marron 5 or Cold play!

They won't touch a barbell even if you pay them....let alone pay for a membership at the gym!

Yeah, pretend your working out makes you real special.

I have a lot of friends that don't work out, most of em do some kind of sport. They look fine, maybe not to Getbig's distorted view of a normal healthy Homo sapiens. I balance working out with some other sporting activities. A lot of people have completely different drives than physical prowess.

Wow. I'm willing to bet that 90% of the people that commented on this topic are about 28 years old or younger.

Of course, when you're younger you just want to work out to make yourself as attractive as possible to the opposite sex. It's all about vanity at that point. It's all I was concerned with back then. Working out, making DICK for money, and trying to get pussy. Once you start becomming more career minded, own a house, invest, find a significant other, that working out shit becomes less of a priority because you got bigger fish to fry. For those that maintain that workout intensity no matter what, god bless you. I'm 32 and I admit that I need to find that desire to consistently get my ass in the gym everyday. I'm not overweight but I don't have the physique that I once did. But when you have a six figure income, live in a nice home, drive a nice car and have an attractive woman to take care of you.........well, you younger guys who look in the mirror constantly and puff out your chest everyday will soon know what I'm talking about.

On a serious note though i don't ever plan to stop lifting or being active mainly because the career i want involves both of those things but i do understand and take into consideration that i may not always have hours to spend everyday lifting, eating and cooking the healthy food needed to be serious. I don't see how some people say they have no time because i am sure anyone can find at least 1 hour 3-4 days a week for general exercise and fitness rather then watching tv or just being lazy.

At the end of the day the only muscle that counts is the heart muscle.

say what you want, but everytimes i show off in a tshirt, people who have no clue abvout bodybuilding get instantly shocked, pissed, and imemdiately feel the need ot justify themselves aboutt heir physiques, both girls , boys, and even grown up women and men.

thats all i can say, sorry, they re just all like "wtf"? and im not even 200 lbs with 23 " biceps.

Guys instantly says something like "yeah you know what, i m a badass, i m a fighter" for some reasons, just because they saw your biceps, and know that they re twice as big as theirs.
Girls use to immediately rip off on other "normal" (undesrtand "undeveloped" men) saying things like" hey why dont you get buff, why arent you more muscular" and stuff like this.It particulary funny when they rip on their boyfriend... and when he then rip on their "fatness" in return.Damn, i cant even count how many times this shit hapened to me.Now im just shaking my head and leaving these morons making fun of each others...

It's always the same shit hapening.

I dont know where you people live, but everytime a group of people see me in a thisrt, they re like "wtf" and start to feel insecure, rip on each others bodies for no reasons but to feel better and after some times, some of em wants you to tell them your "secret".

Once you tell em how it works, they say "huh, thats too fucking hard " and forget about it.
Most girls have a crush on you, and with some maturity it really helps to have an easier social life with people.

But you have to be cautious, cause i noticed being muscular often piss other frustrated men and girls and make em feel very insecure and bad about themselves, in return they may do their best to piss you off if you re not smart enough.

After a while, you just dont care anymore about all these morons and ignore them, start to get the f**k out of their vain discussions at the very begining of it, and let em rip on each others bodies.

The worst and funniest thing is when people start rumors about you using steroids and having to inject youself multiple times a day and other shit like that when you don't use anything and the people talkin shit never talk to you or ask you themselves if or what you use. I have heard some crazy shit about what i supposedly use and how i take it from friends but they always back me and say "shut the fuck up, you don't know anything about what he does and you just jealous". I really don't think i am very big (6' 195lbs) but i know i am in very good shape for my age (20) and i work hard for it and i could understand if i was like 230-240 or somthin but damn thats not for years to come if ever.

O brother all you guys who think that working out and having muscle automatically attracts women.

If you are handsome, make money, have goals, are in good shape, can f**k, and make a woman laugh you will get way more pussy than any ugly ass idiot with muscle on his frame

You take Gunter and sit him next to David 150 pound Beckum and 99.9999999999 percent of women will take David B. You don't see any bodybuilder on the sexiest men alive list. Hell id be shocked if anyone on it was a muscular 215

Having a good body and having muscle is great and something we all enjoy doing. But when you are old you will prolly not care as much. Children, a wife, a career , bills to pay and a home to take care of eat up alot of that time you had before.

Mindspin is a prime example of this...Look at the guy before all his success with work and his family. he still looks great to the average guy but not what he used to be. That shit takes alot of work lol!    Yemeni drop some knowledge.

What I was trying to say is, working out is important to a point.. Being in shape and being handsome will get you far more women than being heavily muscled and average looking.

You can be in great shape from cardio or playing sports. Women like men with muscle but not freaky amounts. unless of course they have a fetish.

I love to hit the weights and put on some good size but in the grand scheme of things working out is not that important once life becomes about others and not just youreself.

I have all the repsect in the world for guys like Dugdale who work have a family and also maintain a very impressive physique.

i agree....but exercise is the only thing you can do to change your body, you cant work out your face and make yourself more handsome.....you're either handsome or you're not, either way you should still have a sweet physique to set yourself above the rest.

i'm more of a ruggedly handsome type, but devilishly can be just as, if not more, effective.  play on playboy.

Why would anyone not work out? Because, like uh, it's work?  :D Those without the testosterone overload of youth aren't going to find it quite as compelling.

Minus raging hormones of earlier years it's not quite as enticing. With age a more balanced life and solid physique is sufficient. Not to say muscle doesn't appeal but it's one of many ingredients.
