I can relate to being old. I was poor in my teens and 20's. Never been overweight though.
We've all seen that so-called "losers" tend to receive a lot of government money and handouts.
To anyone receiving unemployment and/or government stimulus money... make sure you take it and buy tangible items. Things of value that hold their value. You're going to need it.

I don't mind helping the elderly and poor people that truly have no options in life.
Fat people are different, if we are on the same healthcare plan and i'm responsible for your financial health situation, i have a problem with that to a degree. However, everyone can get sick no matter how healthy they try to be, so it's a slippery slope.

- they all appear to be VERY well fed.
- they all smoke
- they have at least 1 or 2 large dogs
I'd say: stop smoking and get rid of the dogs and you have at least 200 euros/dollars a month extra.

Many employers drug test job applicants nowadays. I wonder how legal pot will come in to play?

Here in New Mexico, if you have a medical marijuana card and you fail a drug test, you are screwed. It's weird how that works. It's pretty easy to get the card, just have to classify because of a certain ailment and get a Doctor to sign the paperwork. The company i work for does work for the federal government, we get randomly drug tested once or twice a year. Even if i had a card i'd probably lose my job if i failed the test.
They need to change that.

I don't think it's any worse than taking anti-anxiety medication or pain killers at work, which as long as you have a prescription it doesn't count against you for employment. THC stays in the body for a long time; i just think it's silly that people can drink themselves to sleep and take pain killers, opiates, other anxiety medications that really mess up your mind, but THC is still banned. If it's legal to use it, there is no test that can tell you if they took it before bed or on the way to work, just like pills.
I work with a young guy who's jacked up on Adderall and Xanax all day long, he's very open about it. He has prescriptions for it and all HR can do is tell him not to talk about it, but in reality he can if he wants to. He's actually a pretty good worker and gets all his work done, so no reason to complain really.
A stoned employee wouldn't bother me too much, i work in Engineering which i've had a lot of CAD drafters and designers that i knew smoked weed. Never had a problem with it, just make sure you check all their calculations, which i have to do anyway. ;D

Nobody's binnes what you do in your spare time. Boggles m'mind that it's regarded as perfectly reasonable to insist on access to someone's bodily fluids. This side of my skin is 100% mine, 0% anyone else's. No, I don't use drugs. But if I want to, outside of work, that's my choice and no one's beeswax. On top of which you could inject me with a cocktail of lsd, heroin, meth, and wild turkey, and I'd still be more coherent and productive than almost all of the heavy-lidded halfwits populating this planet.
Instead of controlling what people do all 24 hours, how about let's attain the more modest goal of getting them to do something good for 8 hours a day? Sign in and do shit. Otherwise no money. Then you can go home and do whatever you please.
The Nancy Reagan approach is laughable. The drugs aren't the problem. The people are the problem. Surveil them and test them to ensure their sobriety and all you'll have is sober lazy idiots.

But do you want someone in such a job come to work hungover from alcohol? Is it better than having THC in the system from the night before?

I thought we wanted clean employees period. Ive known several shop guys who drank on the job. And when they started testing during work hours the were fired.

I agree. Though daily smokers seem to adapt to it, but there's certainly an element of increased risk. Some low risk menial labor jobs might be helped by weed - in some people. Some get lazy but others want to workout for example. Lots of lifters do tokes before workouts and claim it increases performance. I've made many PRs in the powerlifts while slightly altered.

I agree completely with your posts here. It's amazing the amount of people who are all for more and more laws, more government oversight over citizen's private lives. Like the argument I've had with many people over increased camera surveilance over public spaces. "What's the problem, if you commit no crime, why would you mind this surveilance?" They simply can't see how it will lead to more surveilance over private spaces and behaviors. They can't see that this oversight can lead to punishing their bad behaviors, like eating sugar or drinking wine or any number of things that might be termed bad. The future seems very suffocating and not free at all.
Sure, I'd rather not have a heavy stoner doing certain jobs but I have a problem with many other behaviors that might be legal for now. An old person using sleeping pills the night before sitting behind the wheel or the person on Oxycodone and Xanax doing the same. I don't know what the laws say in the US but here in Sweden a legal user of narcotics gets to decide for themselves if they are fit to drive.

They play about far too much with various nootropics in silicon valley. Loads of basket cases in the making.
I've also met a lot of pot smokers who use weed get into "work mode". Manual jobs too and are amazing workers. It does the same for me, puts me in "work mode" and I might occasionally smoke it if I need to clean up, paint a room or do something equally mundane. Wouldn't wanna make it a daily habit though.

Yes some drugs help performance in some things because it can make you more creative. My father wouldn’t have been half the salesman he was without alcohol. But it’s gonna get him in the long run.
I smoke weed every day and I debate with myself if the negatives outweigh the positives and I think they probably do. I still think it’s the lesser of the two evils between alcohol and itself.

Alcohol is great for adjusting your personality for sales. Some people need a few drinks to loosen them up so they can shoot the shit with potential clients. It's really common.
I think smoking weed every day is slowing you down a bit. As you said it's much better than drinking, but it makes people lazy. In college i smoke a ton of weed and it made me more creative and improved my quality of life quite a bit, but after a while you need to take a break.
I'd probably smoke a few nights a week if i didn't get drug tested regularly. The company i work for does a lot of federal work for the military and we get random tests a few times a year. Such a shame they are testing us when all we do is provide environmental testing and monitoring, but that's how all government contracts work in the states.
