Title: Are there any cigarette smoking getbiggers?
Post by: gib on January 22, 2021, 12:27:50 AM
If so, how the F do you justify doing this, both to yourself and to those who love you.

For those who do smoke, this thread is not intended to upset you just for the sake of it, but rather to seriously make you reconsider the idiocy of your actions. Have some self respect.

If you currently smoke, STOP. RIGHT NOW.

I have seen people suffer with throat and cheek cancer. It can be agonizing for the sufferer, and heartbreaking for those who need to witness and live through the pain and suffering of those whom they love.

Especially if you have kids, (but even if you don't), I really don't know how anyone in their right mind can do this to themselves.

If you need help in quitting, speak up. We are her to help and support each other.

Had my last one on May 11th, 2020................NEVE R thought I`d be able to say I haven`t had a cigarette in 9 months.................. .quitting is a fucking MONSTER!!

It took stage 4 COPD and Lung Cancer to finally make me quit, not that I never tried to before that.

Worst fucking addiction in the world.....I rue the day I ever started smoking so to echo Gibs sentiments,if you smoke dont quit tomorrow or try to cut dowm ,grow some balls, tough it out, get a support sytsem, and jut never pick up again or you WILL regret it someday in the future.................. ..could be 30 years down the road or even longer, but you WILL pay the price eventually make no mistake about it.

For the assholes who will say it`s self inflicted, and I deerved it,I agree and never blamed anyone else..... so keep your pie holes shut.

Smoking is another sign that you re well ard.  A true tough guy.
Like having tribal tattoos,  wearing tap out clothes,  driving a pick up truck which you rev at the lights.
Pretend to always be chewing gum.
Wear wrap round shades and have a goatee beard

I smoked 4.5 cigarettes in the past 12 days - four + one that I shared with a friend. Does that count?

I think I mentioned I've been smoking, on Getbig - but averaging 0.7 daily for the past 8+ months.

Is there any way to square this circle?

Is 1.5 every Sunday evening ok?

According to John Meadows, if you've smoked over 55 cigarettes in your lifetime, it can impact your ejection fraction ratio in your heart. WTF? So smoking one cigarette a week for a year already produces problems?

Yeah... maybe time to put this non-habit aside.

I could go for a cigarette now, from reading this thread.

What I find annoying about smoking is that [for me], anything more than two cigarettes a day is toxic and unsatisfying. It's just smoking to satisfy cravings. What a rip-off.

While two daily, spaced out, gave all the head rush benefits of being a new smoker, without the feelings of toxicity [which I assume correlate to health risks].

Talk about the law of diminishing returns. Meanwhile, I had 1.5 cigarettes on Sunday, and they were the most satisfying cigarettes I've ever had. Again, what a rip-off. At least with alcohol, MOST drinkers aren't just drinking to satisfy addiction.

Why smoke cigarettes you ask?...Why did people use to drive cars with no seatbelts/shoulder harness?...Why did people drink water that intentionally had radium mixed in?...Why do they drink colloidal silver?

We used to buy the odd pack when we were about 12, we though it made us look tough.
Unfortunately a cigarette doesnt increase your ability to throw or dodge a right hook...

Gayer than sharing cigarettes with a friend!

Lol! She was a female friend. Not sure if I'd share a cigarette with a man, unless the issue was no cigarettes being available or something. But I wouldn't be passing it back and forth in that case - just smoking the second half of the cigarette.

I'm reminded of that piece of shit woman who severely took advantage of me in 2018 - keeping in mind, we were never intimate, she was passed me a cigarette drenched in her saliva. That was the year I started this non-habit. For her to purposely spend so much of my money, NOT kiss me or anything else [while I could have been with other women in my life], and pass me that drenched cigarette, just makes her such a massive piece of shit in my mind. She knew she had nothing to offer, and that even the sex with her wasn't great, so she withheld everything. Bad strategy, because it may work well in the short-run, then people hate you.

Sharing a cigarette is a form of "indirect kissing", if it's drenched in saliva, like that bitch purposely did to me.

It's funny - while I AGREE COMPLETELY with the message in this thread, I can honestly say I would sooner have a 20 cigarette a month habit than to deal with relationship bullshit.

Is there ANY amount a person can smoke? How about ONE a week? Is even that putting you at risk?

FYI, I am not addicted to cigarettes or nicotine. I haven't had a coffee this month, but I'm thinking I will today, after this thread, lol.

"But I dont smoke because its bad for me"

LOL!!!!

That's how one Getbigger explained pros and Rec drugs to me. The notion that high level bodybuilding is "healthy" is a bit sick. Very disingenuous.

Research on 15+ cigarettes a day ["heavy smoking"] is clear. I'm not sure if there are studies on 1-2 every Sunday evening.

Though I was shocked when John Meadows said 55+ cigarettes in your lifetime can mess up your ejection fraction ratio. So one cigarette a week for a year, or one cigarette a month for five years can mess up your heart?  ???

Really?

Yeah, time to stop completely.

LMAO...threads like this are always like animal cruelty videos to me - they always impact me, but make me want a cigarette or piece of meat in the moment. Conventional advertising doesn't work for me, but a thread like this which makes me think about quitting smoking invariably makes me interested in a cigarette in the short-term.

The long-run effect is that I quit though.

But I'm already not addicted to nicotine. I'm not seeking to rationalize here either.

Is 1-2 cigarettes, total for the week, on a Sunday evening only bad for you? I've already proven I can sustain that.

I know in the end I will ultimately quit completely. I'll put this another way:

I intend to smoke a cigarette again in my lifetime. Is any sort of frequency under once a year ok?

I don't know if there are good studies on extreme low dose smoking.

Didn't smoke but worked in a bar in college early 80s.

After work used to cough up black phlem like a coal miner from all the smoke.

My brother in law smoked a couple of packs a day since he was a teenager. When He got to around 65 he quit.  Two years later he had terminal lung cancer. Horrible way to go. Between the chemo and cancer he was a weak walking skeleton. Died in his home unable to breathe.

Haha, yeah. Genetics plays a part as well. My old man has been smoking since he was 12 years old.

Every 6 months he goes to the doctor for a check up and they ask if he's quit smoking yet. He just laughs about it.

Don't get me wrong, one of these times the bad news will come...or maybe it won't....either way he's near the average life expectancy already and isn't going to quit.

Who knows he may get lucky.....i hope he comes through unscathed.

You often read about these old fuckers who are 90 and still drink and smoke daily and are still OK.

Luck of the draw I guess.

I've been repulsed by smoking my entire life.  Grew up in a large family of smokers and was subjected to unwanted 2nd hand smoke for the first 19-20 years of my life.  Never fucked a smoker and never will.  If I saw Salma Hayek smoking right now and she knocked on my door later tonight to do some fucking, I'd politely decline.  It's that gross to me.  Also, lung cancer took my mother from me and the age of 56 and heart disease took my father at 65.  I was orphaned at 36.  :)  All jokes aside my kids never got to meet my mom who would have made for one hell of a getbigger.  Her trash talk game was fierce and on point.  They(my kids) were 4 and 6 when my dad passed.  So to those who smoke, STOP.  Ride your loved ones who do smoke like a Schwynn until they stop.

Jesus Christ Matt, nothing like living on the edge huh ?  LOL  ;D

LOL!!!

Tim - honestly, thank you for getting and beating lung cancer.

You were in shape all your life. That may have been the difference.

Your story kept me I fear, and kept me not smoking much.

I had one just now with a McDonald's meal and a coffee.

What I learned from your successful battle with lung cancer is that I don't want to have to go through that. I don't want to say "Damn, what did I do to myself?" Especially when I should have known better.

But IS two cigarettes a week, assuming I can sustain this [which as a disciplined person, I feel I can] going to hurt me?

Recently I decided that I'm not going to wait for gyms to reopen in Ontario to get back to hard workouts. What I WANT is to follow a proper heavy [for me] lifting schedule.

But I can't - so long walks and calisthenics will be the thing instead.

And for me to be worried about even ONE cigarette is normal for me. But my rational half keeps those worries in check.

So...is there ANY way to do this? I mean...John Meadows said 55 cigarettes in your lifetime can negatively impact your ejection fraction ratio! Like WTF! So I'm at risk for a heart attack smoking one cigarette a month?

I figure...as long as I am in control, it's fine.

That cigarette was surprisingly satisfying. I don't feel like having another one immediately...but THAT'S the issue for me.

So is there any "acceptable" number of cigarettes we can smoke?

Ultimately I'm conning myself. I just don't see a world where I have that perfect amount, without wanting another. I actually do still want to at least have ONE more.

I guess you got over that, because you quitting like you did is amazing.

But see...we had the same issue, sort of: both of us are disciplined people, long-time gym goers who followed a good diet. And clearly both of us enjoy cigarettes, plural.

Was there anything specifically that made you forget cigarettes, or would you say it was mostly a matter of time?

Your story was impressive - going from a tumor the size of a quarter to one UNDETECTABLE...that's insane.

And I am extremely confident you will not have a relapse of lung cancer, barring you going back to smoking. We will all get sick eventually...do I think you will be contending with another lung tumor...well...without seeing your entire medical protocol, and reading every study, my belief is NO. You did what you had to, and now it's just a matter of you not giving up.

Incidentally, one thing about autism is this: picture living in hyper-sensitivity. Like when you were scared because you had a tumor.

Even just reading your journey to recovery had me scared! In fact, maybe I need to bookmark your thread, and open it every time I'm thinking of having a cigarette.

My fear is that if I'm smoking at all, I will become a pack-a-day smoker - and THAT quantity of smoking scares me.

Obviously even smoking one a WEEK will dominate my thoughts, no matter how much I enjoy it. Really, I just need to bookmark your thread, read it any time I'm thinking of smoking, and just forget it.

That's really sad about your parents. I'm sorry to hear that.

What the fuck am I even doing. Walking the line with lung cancer! I would sooner do heroin once a month. Big statement, but EVERYONE has cigarettes...they are so UBIQUITOUS.

So EASY. So LOW COMMITMENT.

The issue isn't a couple a week...the issue is that habit going up.

Maybe if a sauna was open, I would stop completely.

Not to make excuses, but I am 99.9% certain alcoholism, drug addiction, and obesity have ALL gone up due to COVID.

Not to make excuses for being a lazy girl just sitting at home all day, but like WTF. I just want a gym open, to get me in that atmosphere. Weight room / track / sauna.

I'm extremely curious what the data is on addiction and COVID. It can't be good.

That's really sad about your parents. So as much of a hypochondriac as I am, I'm not wrong to have that fear. And I feel I just can't moderate it. Only fear is keeping me I line.

Matt I`m not a doctor and I dont play one on TV............but I highly doubt if 1-2 cigarettes are going to have an adverse affect on you........not gonna do you any good, but too menial in my opinion to even get anxious about.

I started smoking at 12 or 13 years old and smoked for 52 fucking years all the time I was training................ .....everyday without fail.

I felt guilty and very hypocritical as I should have, because I loved to train but grew up in the streets with the wrong crowd and most here know all about my former addiction issues..............not just cigarettes mind you.

At the end I calculated that being so sedentary I smoked 55-60 cigarettes per day.........YES I SAID PER DAY!!

2 or 3 isn`t the brightest move but I doubt that they`ll have any adverse affect on you as you are young and in shape and that is what I would call not really smoking............i mean you dont have a habit so if possible just quit................you should have little to no cravings or withdrawl symptoms.

Like Abraham I lost my father to lung Cancer but it wasn`t a big loss as he was a drunken woman beating coward, but losing my mother to Colon Cancer at 50 years of age fucked me up for years.

She was my best friend as my father could never possibly be.

Good luck dude............just quit it and forget it you are not an addict..........physical ly anyway.

Just my thoughts as I said I`m far from a doctor.

I`m one grateful bastard to be clean and sober for 20 years and to have my  Cancer in remission (just hoping this continues) because my life at times was sheer insanity................ .grateful to be here trust me brother, where at one time I couldn`t have cared less if I woke up in the morning.

I've done a few drugs that actually have a reputation for being fun/interesting but nicotine is strange drug in that very few people ever say anything positive about it.  Hence, I've never smoked a cigarette.  Nobody ever actually told me it was worth it.   I'm surprised there aren't more never smoked - they have an awful reputation.

Real tobacco is like whiskey...enjoyable occasionally...like a pipe or nice short cigar. Cigarettes are full of who knows what.

Heart felt and strong motivation for all smokers to quit. It must have been an incredibly tough period in your life.

I really thought some getbigger would tell the story of an 80 year old that smoked since they were 13. Of course a few escape the risk through a percentage but the majority don't.  Same with steroids. For every story of a guy that juiced from his teens to his 70's are those with all kinds of health issues from cardiac, kidney, lung, liver and prostate problems.

I know an 80 year old smoker who fits that bill.

But I know a 23ish year old (not sure how old he is) smoker who is currently going through testing to ascertain as to why he is coughing up blood and experiencing a few other issues.

You ain't kidding.  I was 30 years old in March 04 when my son was born.  My life was seemingly perfect.  Work, marriage, newborn, etc. everything was going according to plan.  Fast forward 2 months to May 04 and my mom got the diagnosis.  From that point until Halloween she underwent treatment after treatment and then I got the call from her and my dad that she was finished fighting.  She started home hospice and 3 weeks later she was gone.  Completely devasted but had to pull it together for my dad.  My mom was awesome.  Fun as hell.  As a kid my friends always wanted to hang out at our house because she was so easy going and just fun to be around.  It's almost cliche' to say but she was if not my best friend, my closest confidant.  My dad hung around for about 5 and a half years after my mom.  He was awesome too.  A little more serious than my mom but he got better with age.  Never loved one more than the other but found that with my mom being gone, all my earthly love for her kind of went to him.  If that makes sense.  When we lost him, it was even harder as I felt as though I still had my mom through him.

That being said, and I apologize for hijacking this thread and making it about me but I miss them both terribly but also feel blessed that I have nothing but fondness and great memories of them both.  I had quality if not quantity.  When I encounter people who are going through what I've went through, I tell them that it's hard now and that things will never be the same.  However, it does get better.  There will be stark reminders throughout the year.  Holidays, birthdays, etc.  For me, May and June are roughest.  Starts with Mothers Day, two weeks later is my moms birthday, three days after her birthday is when my dad passed and two weeks after that is Fathers Day.  I am always relieved when Fathers Day is over.  :)

Don't Smoke!  It affects more than you can/could possibly imagine.

Yeah man, sorry to hear. Time passing after someone moves on is just one of those things that people experience differently.

I have both my parents. I call both of them a few times a week. About 5 years ago I grew up and realized their age. The time spent talking and helping out where I can is critical both for them and for me to feel right about things in the future.

I delivered papers as a kid. This old guy used to come to the door and he was on oxygen. He told me several times never to smoke cigarettes, I never did. It certainly wasn't my dad that did it haha, it was Mr. Kissling that lived up the hill.

Appreciate it.  Even before my parents passed, getting people not to smoke or quit smoking had always been a passion.  Especially broads I'd like to fuck.

Sorry pal.  Not my intention to bring you down.  Your situation has always hit a nerve with me.  I am truly happy for you getting a second chance and glad you've finally kicked the habit.  Hopefully, you get stronger and stronger and have many, many, many more years with us.  I'd still love to catch a fight (boxing) with you sometime down the road.

Never got into smoking, always looked at it as nasty habit. Can’t stand the smell and the people that are associated with smoking. Like dirty hygiene’s, unclean

Never got the hype with weed either, overhyped crap imo

Wes, big respect to you for sharing. Thank you. I think you message to others may make a difference. It only improves one person's life, or saves one person from cancer by inspiring them to quit, then the time you have taken to let us know your thoughts on this is worth it.

Wishing you fully recover! Good karma is being sent your way.

I definitely don't measure up. I chain smoked (3+ packs a day) for 11 years and quit cold turkey at 29. It was maybe the smartest thing I ever did so far.

My guess is that you aren't terribly old. There was a time not that long ago when smoking was something pretty much everyone did. There was no stigma in smoking. You could do it everywhere and anywhere you chose. These days, when you see someone smoking in public you automatically think less of them. Everything changes over time.

Yup actors smoked in all the movies, we smoked in movie theaters, on public city busses, in buildings, on elevators, hotel lobbys,in courthoses, and floor model ashtrays were everywhere in the lobbys of every building..

I’ve never smoked cigarettes, weed, never done any recreational drugs or steroids. I’m probably the only one here

Nope - I'm the same. i don't get it. Look at an anatomy book. The lungs have one function - to put oxygen in to the blood and remove carbon dioxide. The alveoli are delicate structures. They're not built to handle anything else.

On the bodybuilders in Europe smoking...many people fucking smoke here. It's my biggest hate about living in Europe. Some days, walking from the gym carpark to the gym itself feels like walking through an ashtray. It's so fucking gross.

Besides harming health, smoking also causes premature aging and wrinkles, and also damages and stains teeth.

Nowadays you look like a bum, loser, doing it

Amazing.

That cigarette yesterday was just right.

I think to ensure zero cravings, one per seven days ensures that.

It may be more...but I don't want to walk that line too much. I'm fine with one a week. Or two. Likely both on the same day.

Or zero!

I find cigarettes are a chronic headache to moderate. Whereas with alcohol, the moderation mechanism for me is natural.

Cigarettes are very addictive though. No disrespect to anyone who is addicted. It sort of boils down to - what did you expect after having the first one?

My mistake wasn't the first one...but I should not have bought a pack. I should have just grabbed ones from friends. I would never trust myself with a full pack these days. Well...maybe. But simple boredom is a reason to smoke, IMO.

As I said, I am confident that lock-downs have accelerated all forms of mental illnesses, and vices - etc.

True, but I have unfortunately indulged in the alcohol business. From what I can see, it's a pick your poison scenario.

Never smoked weed or cigarettes in my life. Never did any drug actually, besides alcohol, which is just as damaging.

People can get addicted to anything.

Question, when does a habit become an addiction?
When you think about it everyday, and it hinders your daily life.

Kind of like glory hole cocks to you.

Excellent answer. Although, I was mainly thinking about alcohol when I asked the question. Your answer covers all the possibilities. So much for thinking if I stop drinking for a month without going through a program or withdrawal symptoms, I am not addicted. If when 5:00 p.m. comes around and the first thing I think about is having a drink. No matter if it is just one or two drinks in 24 hours, it is still an addiction. On the other hand, two alcoholic drinks does not hinder most people's lives.
If you are only having a couple of drinks a day, then you shouldn't have much to worry about. However, most addicts are also liars. It comes with the territory.
