No State of the Union Address. Why? No press conference. Why? No pressure by the media. (We know why not.)
Say what you want about Trump, but he stood and took questions darn near every time he passed by a mic.
-
I'd like to hear someone tell me why they think Biden is doing a good job and why.
He's doesn't speak to the media. Doesn't visit the borders, which he caused by reversing Trumps asylum policies and instead he's visiting cancer clinics stating dogs cure cancer and the following day he has a supposed woman telling us she should be paid the same as a professional male soccer player.
Oh yea, can't forget that he's forcing chicks with dicks into high school sports.
How can this be considered successful?
-
President Biden must be reading the board. :) Had his first press conference today. I haven't watched yet. Did anyone see?

I did. Just what I expected. Prescreened questions and prepared answers. He looked and sounded very old and frail.
-
He also does this thing where he comes into the room wearing a mask and takes it off just as he gets to the podium. I’d bet he put that mask on right before he came into the room just so he could be seen walking into the room wearing it.

How the heck can you have prescreened questions and prepared answers at a press conference?? Scandalous.

New photos reveal several cheat sheets used by President Joe Biden during his Thursday press conference — including one with the headshots and names of reporters he planned to call on.
The president also used notes to assist with facts about US infrastructure, a policy area Biden is focusing on during his first months in the White House.
“The United States now ranks 13th globally in infrastructure quality — down from 5th place in 2002,” read one bullet point.
But despite having the answers in front of him, Biden still slipped up, saying America ranked 85th in the world in infrastructure, before correcting himself.
The press pool at Thursday’s briefing, the first one held by Biden since taking office 65 days ago, was limited to 25 reporters.
Biden only took questions from a list of journalists whose names and outlets he read from a cue card. A photo of the card shows circled numbers around select reporters.

In the early stages of the 62 minutes presser, in which Biden fielded 10 questions, the president appeared to repeatedly lose his train of thought, forgetting questions and asking reporters if they wanted him to give detailed answers.

Many of his responses were aided by notes he kept inside a three-ring binder.
He abruptly wrapped up the press conference, telling reporters, “but folks. I’m going,” without sticking around for a follow-up question.

Worse than I thought.
No liberal has a viable excuse for this.
What's next coloring books?
The world laughs.

Shouldn't a US president be able to answer questions about current events in the US. It's funny and it proves what we thought, but at the same time, it's really scary.
And the whole world is laughing as us.

I don’t give a shit what that senile old fool reads off a note card.
I want to know who the fuck is actually running the country, because that idiotic scarecrow isn’t?

It’s essentially like the old Soviet Union where you had an old party apparatchik as a figurehead and a politburo running things from behind the scenes.

Lol! Did it occur to you that masks muffle one's voice and the whole point of the press conference is to hear him speak? Of course he removed it. ::)

On cue, you missed the whole point. I’m saying he put it on just before he went out in public just to show that he was wearing a mask only to immediately take it off. It was fucking theater.

Except you don't know he put it on before he went out in public. Even if he did, do you wear a mask when you're not out in public?
I wear mine a little as possible. I don't wear one when I am at home regardless of who else is here. I don't wear the mask when I am driving my car. Now that restaurants are open again, albeit at 25% capacity, I've been eating out a more often. I wear a mask when I enter and until I'm seated. As soon as a server brings water, I take it off. -Just cannot figure out how to drink water or eat while wearing a mask. :)

"I predict to you, your children or grandchildren are going to be doing their doctoral theses on the issue of Who succeeded—autocracy or democracy? Because that is what is at stake. . . . We’re in the midst of a fourth industrial revolution, of enormous consequence. Will there be a middle class? How will people adjust to these significant changes in science and technology and the environment? How will they do that? Our democracy is equipped, because all of the people get to speak, to compete. . . . This is a battle between the utility of democracies in the twenty-first century and autocracies. . . . We’ve got to prove democracy works"
Geez. Was it this bad?
I don't watch the news or anything with him in it. It's embarrassing.
Unreal we are stuck with this senile old man.
I'm starting to think Mexico has a better system than us.

I think we are headed the same direction, and i mean that honestly.
Like my friend from Taiwan says about growing up in China, "at least we know it's all fake, Americans still think it's real".

Aha! Now I get it. It was a joke...a sarcastic joke, nevertheless it was a joke. Humor is a good thing. :)
I have friends who vacation in Mexico and they love it. Or loved it before the pandemic screwed up travel. There are over a million expats in Mexico. Puerto Vallarta is known as an expat haven by the sea. Other expat favorites are San Miguel de Allende; Mérida; Lake Chapala which is Mexico’s largest expat hotspot and where my friends vacation. There are several more favorite locations expats chose in Mexico.
One of the aspects of the media I most dislike is how they frequently magnify all the bad shit that goes on around the world and completely ignore all that is good and positive. People who live elsewhere, think all of Portland is under siege when the reality is very different. People think what we see on the media is real. Maybe it is real, but not in the way they'd like you to think it is.

There are some great places to live in Mexico. The problem is they are few and far between. 90% of Mexico is a cesspool. You will notice all the places filled with American's and Europeans are just that, all American and European. They are the top 1% of the Country.
I know American's who live there quite comfortably. It's cheap and very few rules to follow. If you made your wealth illegally, it's the place to live, nobody askes any questions, no taxes and red tape to worry about. You have money, no problemo!
Also many places are beautiful. I've seen some amazing places on the Pacific coastline.
The main cities are pretty bad though. Just try driving a car through Mexico City, it's insane. No traffic laws to follow, or at least none are enforced.
Tampico is my favorite place, but it's the "rich" part of Mexico.
Just don't get caught away from one of the good places and you are fine. As my GF and her family always say, don't carry cash, don't dress nice, speak spanish (at least some), never start a fight, don't act important and always travel with a Mexican.
I've been to Juarez and Tijuana, some of the worst places in North America. The majority of the people are nice and friendly, don't care much about anything. But those others will rob you and knife you for $100, no questions asked. The police won't even make a report. They don't want the attention. Thousands of people disappear in the border towns every year. When you cross the border there are walls covered with pictures of missing Americans. The government doesn't even acknowledge they are missing, it's family members going down there to try and find them.
I've been all over Mexico and i've seen how badly they are treated, so much poverty, rape, murder and gang activity. Most of the bad things that happen there are not televised or talked about, they are swept under the rug. Which is kind of my point. The government is corrupt, so is the military; they can be bought and paid for. The cartels have billions of dollars, they influence over 25% of the police force. That's pretty crazy to think about.
Once your government, media, police and military are corrupt and do not tell the truth. All is lost. That is how the majority of Central and South America are. We don't need to be heading that direction.

this freakin mileage tax is a BIG tax on poor and middle class
amazing

Great post on Mexico, TO.
My question is where do Americans with a lot of money keep it? If you can’t trust anybody why would you trust the banks?

It can be kept offshore, in the Caymans, or in Switzerland if you want.

I doubt anyone thinks it is a good idea to copy or move in the direction of Mexico and the rest of Central and South America's government and subsequent and predominate among the citizenry's poor quality of life.
Some U.S. cities have been or are currently not ideal places for anyone to live. There are multiple reasons for this, such as poverty, corruption, drug use and overcrowding. These conditions lead to the deterioration of a city's quality of life. It is mostly big city issues which we are currently seeing increases in. The number of homeless camps in Portland is astounding. What was once a very clean and beautiful city is littered with garbage and graffiti covered surfaces. The pandemic has exacerbated these problems, which are in fact worldwide, not just in the Americas.

Great post on Mexico, TO.
My question is where do Americans with a lot of money keep it? If you can’t trust anybody why would you trust the banks?
As Les said it's mainly offshore.
There are legit banks in Mexico. Not bad for just using as a checking account for 10-20k. But i wouldn't put a lot of money in there. The wealthy people are typically left alone, unless you piss of the wrong person. My GF's older sister is an Attorney who works for the Mexican government on a federal level, she works in auditing and tax law. There are accounts she's not even allowed to look at because they are "protected". It's still the wild wild west over there.
Mexico has some good services, it's just that the government controls everything, and i mean everything. They can do whatever they want, no questions asked and no explanations given.
-

In Juarez every single building has graffiti on it, literally all of them do. They have fences with razor wire around churches so people don't steal the furniture and religious pieces. The statues of saints are bolted to steel plates on the ground.
There are dozens of homeless on every corner. It's crazy. Little 2-3 year old kids being used as pawns to beg for money. They do this in Mexico City because of all the tourists. You just have to block it out and keep walking.
It's insane. As much as America is falling apart, we are still better off than the rest of the world.
I never knew what real poverty was until i lived in Venezuela.
We have it very good here in the states.

Biden does everything in private. I understand he's not capable of answering questions on his own, but it is what it is.
Are you concerned that Biden can't even talk to the media without knowing the questions and being provided answers ahead of time?

you sound as though you give more than a tinkers curse for the fake media
Just pointing out media hypocrisy and dishonesty.

I just read this. Haven't verified, but sounds accurate:
President Biden held his first press conference after 64 days in office. No president waited longer in the past 100 years. There has not been a second one 77 days later.
-
“I have never seen a president...so protected by his aides, in terms of often not wanting him to answer some questions.” - CNN’s Jeff Zeleny on President Biden.

Afghanistan withdrawal: Biden continues bunker strategy after widely panned ABC interview
The president has not taken any other questions from the press
By Houston Keene | Fox News
In what appears to be a continuation of his campaign bunker strategy, and following his widely panned interview with ABC News on the stunning fall of Afghanistan, President Biden's schedule Thursday contained no planned public remarks or press briefings.
The president took all public remarks, press briefings and press conferences off his schedule as he and his administration deal with the blowback from their botched troop withdrawal that saw Kabul fall into the hands of the Taliban.
Biden’s now-clear press schedule also comes after his much-criticized ABC News interview on Wednesday night, when the president claimed there was no better way to get out of Afghanistan. Other than the ABC News interview, Biden has not taken any questions from the press this week.
Biden's decision to bunker down amid the Afghanistan crisis evokes his strategy during the 2020 presidential race, when he spent a large amount of time away from the campaign trail.
When asked if the president believes that his campaign strategy of ducking out of the public eye is translating well to his official duties and if his strategy sent a message of American strength to our allies and adversaries, a White House official pointed to Biden's ABC News interview and press briefings by the Pentagon and State Department.
The president's decision to nix his media obligations on Thursday also coincides with Vice President Harris’ trip to Vietnam amid the Afghanistan crisis — which some critics have compared to the 1975 fall of Saigon.
Harris' office has defended the vice president's trip, saying America has many "interests" worldwide.

Why did they edit this part of his interview out?
STEPHANOPOULOS: I-- I think a lot of-- a lot of Americans, and a l-- even a lot of veterans who served in Afghanistan agree with you on the big, strategic picture. They believe we had to get out. But I wonder how you respond to an Army Special Forces officer, Javier McKay (PH). He did seven tours. He was shot twice. He agrees with you. He says, "We have to cut our losses in Afghanistan." But he adds, "I just wish we could've left with honor."
BIDEN: Look, that's like askin' my deceased son Beau, who spent six months in Kosovo and a year in Iraq as a Navy captain and then major-- I mean, as an Army major. And, you know, I'm sure h-- he had regrets comin' out of Afganista-- I mean, out of Iraq.
He had regrets to what's-- how-- how it's going. But the idea-- what's the alternative? The alternative is why are we staying in Afghanistan? Why are we there? Don't you think that the one-- you know who's most disappointed in us getting out? Russia and China. They'd love us to continue to have to--

Joe Biden Walks Away from Questions About the Thousands of Americans Still Stranded in Afghanistan

President Joe Biden again walked away from White House reporters asking him questions about thousands of Americans still stranded in Afghanistan on Monday.
The president delivered a speech at the White House about the coronavirus vaccine getting full approval from the Food and Drug Administration, urging everyone to get vaccinated.
He did not mention the crisis in Afghanistan once in his speech and left without taking questions.
“Do you know how many Americans are left in Afghanistan sir?” one reporter asked as Biden walked away.
He did not stop to respond to the question.
The Biden administration still can not put a number on the Americans stuck in the country.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said he was unwilling to go into detail, even as the administration promises they are getting more Americans out of the country.
When asked by reporters if he was being intentionally vague, Kirby replied, “I’m just going to leave it at several thousand.

It is unclear whether or not Biden can get all Americans out of Afghanistan before the August 31 deadline for withdrawal.
“The president believes we are making substantial progress,” National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said, adding they were consulting the Taliban on “every aspect” of the evacuation process.

Biden Administration Erased Afghan Weapons Reports From Federal Websites

The War in Afghanistan has always been a black box, but the Biden administration just made matters worse.
According to an admission obtained from the State Department, Biden officials recently directed federal agencies to scrub their websites of official reports detailing the $82.9 billion in military equipment and training provided to the Afghan security forces since 2001.
The scrubbed audits and reports included detailed accounting of what the U.S. had provided to Afghan forces, down to the number of night vision devices, hand grenades, Black Hawk helicopters, and armored vehicles.
Reports further quantified 208 aircraft and helicopters; 75,000 war vehicles – including 22 Humvees, 50,000 tactical vehicles and nearly 1,000 mine resistant vehicles; and 600,000 weapons – including 350,000 M4 and M16 rifles, 60,000 machine guns, and 25,000 grenade launchers.
The State Department admitted to removing the reports but justified the move as a way to protect Afghan allies. According to a spokesperson:
“The safety of our Afghan contacts is of utmost importance to us. The State Department advised other federal agencies of to [sic] review their web properties for content that highlights cooperation/participation between an Afghan citizen and the USG or a USG partner and remove from public view if it poses a security risk.”
It’s worth noting that the Biden administration already put these partners at risk when officials provided lists of Afghan nationals to the Taliban in a misguided attempt to clear them for evacuation. The Taliban, a known terrorist organization with a history of murdering Afghan citizens working alongside U.S. forces, should never have been trusted with those names...

White House Reporters File Formal Complaint Against Biden For Refusing To Answer Questions
By Ryan Saavedra
Sep 21, 2021 DailyWire.com
The White House press pool filed a formal complaint against Democrat President Joe Biden for refusing to answer questions from American media about the multiple crises that have erupted under his regime.
The complaint came as Biden met with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the Oval Office, which comes after Biden angered the British with his disastrous pullout from Afghanistan.
“[President] Biden and British PM [Boris Johnson] meet to discuss pandemic, trade and other issues,” CBS News reporter Ed O’Keefe tweeted. “Johnson took 3 questions. White House aides shouted down U.S. attempts to ask questions. I asked Biden about southern border and we couldn’t decipher what he said.”

Politico calls out Biden for not doing interviews: 'Reflects the bunker mentality this White House has taken'
Politico is calling out President Biden for his lack of availability to do one-on-one interviews with the press.
On Tuesday's installment of its "West Wing Playbook" newsletter, Politico reporters Alex Thompson and Tina Sfondeles began by highlighting that Biden has only participated in "just 10" interviews in the first nine months of his presidency, not one since Labor Day.
His tally pales in comparison to the 57 interviews Donald Trump had done as well as Barack Obama's 131 interviews at the same point in their presidencies, according to the "presidential watcher" and former CBS reporter Mark Knoller. They also note that Biden had done "at least double" the interviews at this point in the Obama era as vice president.
"Biden’s team is quick to note that he often takes questions from reporters after he does events. Allies of the president are even quicker to note that no one outside of the Washington press corps really cares about press access," Politico wrote. "But the lack of interviews reflects the bunker mentality this White House has taken with the media — particularly the extensive back-and-forths where reporters can follow-up, push, and prod."
"Biden has been especially wary of talking to print publications; he has yet to do an interview with reporters from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Associated Press, or Reuters," the newsletter added.

Awakened to Putin’s Threat, Biden and the West Nod Off Again
The president appeared on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ and didn’t mention Russia’s war against Ukraine in a 23-minute interview.
By Garry Kasparov
June 17, 2022 6:53 pm ET
Earlier this month President Biden addressed the nation. Rather than do so from behind the Resolute Desk, he went on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” In a 23-minute interview, Russia’s war on Ukraine wasn’t mentioned once. With domestic issues such as inflation, the Jan. 6 hearings, abortion and gun control on the president’s plate, the war in Ukraine may seem less of a priority. But it isn’t. Providing Ukraine with everything it needs to fight the Russians is the right—and popular—thing to do.
Yet Mr. Biden seems as if he’d rather pass the buck than act. During remarks at a Democratic fundraiser two days after the Kimmel interview, he said that President Volodymyr Zelensky “didn’t want to hear it” when warned about Russia’s imminent invasion. The Ukrainians deny this, but even if it were true, what of the U.S. ignoring its own warnings? No sanctions or aid was deployed to deter Mr. Putin’s invasion. Mr. Zelensky was surely skeptical that any U.S. support would be forthcoming after the fighting started.
Now we know the high cost of that failure to act—the slaughter, destruction and war crimes in Ukraine, and the food and fuel crises around the world. Instead of working to contain Mr. Putin in the eight years since he first invaded Ukraine, instead of insulating themselves against blackmail by becoming less dependent on Russian exports, American and European governments kicked the can down the road.

Biden has granted only seven formal sit-down interviews with journalists in 2022
Joe and Jill Biden's most recent interview was with Drew Barrymore

The president granted less than half as many interviews with journalists in 2022 as he did in 2021. Last year, he spoke with news organizations 15 times, including three CNN town halls.

While the White House touts how Biden occasionally takes spontaneous questions shouted at him from reporters at various events, the president has rarely held formal press conferences. In 2022, he only held five solo press conferences (he held six in 2021) and seven joint press conferences (three in 2021), according to data from UC Santa Barbara's The American Presidency Project.
Biden's combined 12 press conferences fall short of his closest predecessors in their second year in office, Donald Trump's 18 press conferences (five solo, 13 joint) and Barack Obama's 19 (10 solo, nine joint), data shows. No president has done fewer press conferences in their second year in office than Biden since former President Reagan.
The White House did not respond to a request for comment.

Joe Biden to Hold No Public Events All Week to Explain Why He Stepped Aside
Breitbart ^ | 07/22/2024 | WENDELL HUSEBØ
Posted on 7/22/2024, 12:33:33 PM by ChicagoConservative27
President Joe Biden will hold no public events all week to explain why he stepped aside, according to the White House schedule released Monday.
The lack of a public appearance will increase concerns about Biden’s health.
Many commentators believe that Biden’s lack of a public appearance to announce his decision will fuel calls for him to resign from the presidency, citing fears that he is not able to run the executive branch.
Is the MSM going to ask for some sort of public appearance by President Biden or are they just sticking with their absurd “he’s a hero” talking point and Americans are all supposed to just move on like there is nothing unusual about this? https://t.co/DEcDIfESb3
