He's been destroyed by much smaller guys. Darrem Charles and Dexter Jackson come to mind.

And as far as "mass monsters" go, there is that former cop from Texas.

Thread title wasn’t “tribute to the freakiest conditioned monster of all time “.

Marcus looked unbeatable at the night of Champions in NYC however he didn't really nail that form consistently he was too smooth and couldn't control his midsection at a lot of shows and his arms started looked like they had synthnol in them. He kept his size but in life just like on stage condition is his issue.

Markus Ruhl was called "undestroyable". It's hard to be "undestroyable", when you get whipped by someone over 50 pounds lighter.

Many pics of Marcus dwarfing Ronnie.

And there are many more pics of Ronnie dwarfing Markus, particularly after 2003. Ronnie also beat Ruhl at the 1998 NOC before he became Mr. Olympia.

Maybe - but theoretically, could he have taken Martyn Ford..?  Ford has a much stronger tattoo game, for example...

Not really!! There are bigger and badder ones. At least two have Sandows.

No one beats Ruhl from the front absolutely no one. Don’t care how many sandows one may have.

Ronnie Coleman beats him from the front, the side, the back, and nearly everywhere else (except for calves).

And, it's hard to be an "undestroyable" monster, when you consistently LOSE to guys 50 lbs lighter.

Ruhl often was marked down for having a thicker waistline, and for not having perfect detail in his back region... but he really made guys like Dexter look small.

AH! The Olympia where Ronnie finally lost to Cutler (though he still beat Ruhl handily).

Try 2003-2005, when Ronnie smashed him (and just about everyone else), particularly '05 where Ruhl barely made top 15.

It's not just Dexter Jackson. Ruhl lost to guys like Melvin Anthony and Darrem Charles on the regular.

Ruhl was injured in 2003

Ruhl was basically the same size as Ronnie in 2004 (Challenge Round proved it)

I watched the 2004 Olympia... Ruhl was 5th. Melvin and Darrem were fighting just to be in the top 10.

Isn't that the same Challenge Round where he also lost to Gustavo Baddell, who used that round to leapfrog over Dexter Jackson into 3rd Place overall at the O?

Add to that 2002, when Ruhl won NOC but ended up getting beaten AGAIN at the O by much smaller guys, namely Lee Priest and an extremely subpar Flex Wheeler.

I watched the 2004 Olympia... Ruhl was 5th. Melvin and Darrem were fighting just to be in the top 10.

But, in 2005, Anthony was 7th and Charles was 9th; Ruhl barely made top 15.

One year later, Ruhl was 8th, while Anthony was 5th; Charles got 14th.

By 2007, Ruhl got relegated to "16th". Charles got 12th; Anthony got 6th.

That's my point. True mass monsters don't get consistently beaten by dudes 40-50 lbs lighter, especially at the big show.

Not in this lifetime!!! Eight Sandows vs. one top-5 Olympia placing. And it's a good thing Ruhl wasn't there in 2003...OH THE HUMANITY!!!

Yet, Cutler beat Ruhl at the ASC. So, if Cutler couldn't handle Ronnie at the O, Ruhl would have stood no chance against him.

Again, look at 2002. Ruhl got his famed NOC win, only to lose at the Olympia to Lee Priest and a reportedly natty Flex Wheeler, fresh off kidney surgery. And Ronnie was off that year, too.

Good point.

So Branch Warren is a better bodybuilder than Jay Cutler because Branch beat Jay as a teen...

I never said that Ruhl could beat Coleman in a contest. This thread was about being a mass monster... but Ruhl could definitely place very high at IFBB shows (unlike a guy like Kovacs)

The weak spot for Ronnie in 2003, was that he relaxed his midsection too much (not that Ruhl had a small midsection)

I believe the adverb I used is CONSISTENTLY.

Has Warren CONSISTENTLY beaten Cutler? NO!

Have Charles and Anthony (or other significantly smaller bodybuilders) CONSISTENTLY bested Ruhl (especially at the Olympia)? ABSOLUTELY!! Coleman ate Ruhl's lunch in the late 90s, particularly the NOC.

You guys do know this is a subjective sport right? Arguing about guys placings like it proves they are better if they placed higher. It is subjective obviously Ruhl had a different look than Darrem Charles. When Ruhl was in shape he was great he wasn't consistently in shape though

Having seen both Ruhl and J.P. Fux compete, I think Fux was as big and better than Ruhl from the front.

Nah- not Maurice Jones Drew, who at age 33 is now bizarrely unmuscular and fat.  Maurice Jones was an American bodybuilder who was born in the same year the Titanic sunk and the first parachute jump was made… 1912, for the unhistorical among you.  Though not a big dude growing up, Jones ended up one of the mass monsters of the 1940s and 1950s, with a bodyweight that ranged between 200 and 237lbs at a height of 5’9″, which according to the “scientists” in the natty bodybuilding community is an utter impossibility.  Maurice Jones never missed a workout in the five five years he lifted.  That means that in addition to the thirty pound weighted mountain rucks he was fond of taking a couple of times a week, the dude was in the gym training six to nine hours a week with extremely short rest periods (Baptiste, Strossen).  Even after that introductory half-decade,   small sample of article
