They need an island where they just put all the addicts with no drugs.

That part of Philly has been a heroin hotspot for years, probably the largest one in America, with buyers coming from out of state every day. It's gotten much worse since a progressive mayor took over Philly. He and the District Attorney won't prosecute for most drug crimes. The police are constantly held back from enforcing laws, and if an arrest goes sideways, the Officer will be thrown under the bus guarenteed...combine that with easily prescribed prescription painkillers segwayed into street drugs and you have what's shown in these videos..but on the bright side the mayor made sure there's Trans friendly bathrooms in city hall

There is a R/E development company that advertises constantly for new investors that rehabs those places not far from where the junkies hang out.  That looks like one of their rehabs.

Since these drug addicts are a threat to themselves and others they should be taken to mental hospitals and forced to detox and go through drug treatment before being released.

I heard most of the mental institutions/hospitals were closed decades ago.

They were closed decades ago.  They should be reopened or rebuilt.  It is the law that mentally ill people a threat to themselves or others can be locked up.  This law should be enforced.

what i see is a lot of young lives being wasted. Don´t want to preach or sound like a do gooder but these young people need help.  They should be taken off these hard Philly streets and sorted out even with force if needed. It might save some lives.

That costs a lot of tax payer money, and it doesn't address the root cause of the problem.  They'll just get out, fall off the wagon, and start all over again.

The root cause of the problem is what should be addressed.

Bullshit.  The root cause is using recreational drugs until you are an addict.  The vast majority of those addicted did not get that way from prescribed pain killers.

It's what the US is gonna look like. Do you think China is gonna have homeless drug addicts like this in the street? NEVER. They almost eradicated opium production and consumption in the 1950's by killing dealers and forcing addicts to rehab.

Now you may find addicts but they are stigmatized and considered failures. None of them will have the balls to shoot in the street.

That was 15-20 years ago.  The pill mills were shut down a long time ago.  Doctors won't prescribe you pain medication even if you are in a lot of pain now.

Even if a person becomes addicted to pain medication the doctors will wean them off the drugs.  There are free drug rehab clinics and homeless shelters in these cities and all they have to do is check in.

Portland had a black tar heroin problem before it was cool.

Apparently so, and it is not just heroin that's a problem. Was heroin ever cool? In my opinion no drugs is what's cool. There is no place that I know of in Portland that even remotely resembles Kensington Philadelphia. Old Town which is were you supposedly find people using and selling drugs in Portland looks nothing like Kensington.

Ice methamphetamine is the primary drug problem in Portland and the surrounding counties; however, the Portland Police Department reports that crack cocaine is the greatest drug threat in the inner city. Heroin (particularly Mexican black tar heroin) and marijuana are also widely available.

For many years, I've heard that Portland serves as a regional and national distribution center for illicit drugs, which are transported through Portland for distribution throughout Oregon as well as to other states, especially Washington, and north to Canada. Portland is a 'port city' with I-5 and I-84 running straight through the middle of downtown.

Closer to home, West Linn high school has a drug problem, largely because many of the students there have ample funds to buy drugs.

Portland had a black tar heroin problem before it was cool.
Is black tar worse than white?

A man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman on a SEPTA train in Philadelphia last week, even as a number of witnesses failed to stop the incident or call police, authorities said.

Never got the appeal of big city life. Taking a bus, subway, or taxi everywhere.....

I guess most of it is how you were brought up.

You see videos of Philadelphia, New York, San Francisco....I mean iconic cities, and then you see the dark side.

Is this how some of you guys live? Walking by this trash heap and travesty, every day?

It's literally so foreign to me. I guess homeless people, trash, and mice and rats are also apart of everyday life, "in the big city"  ::)

I don't think I have ever seen a mouse or rat in person.

Big city life is overrated.

There are nice areas in NYC, Philly, DC.  I think you get higher quality with restaurants and you get more variety with everything in general.  I actually find the subways more convenient for the most part.  However it is comparatively expensive to live there.

Depends on which big city and where you are in that city. Most big cities have good areas and other areas that are not so great.

Train riders held up phones, didn't call 911 as woman was raped on Philadelphia train

A man was charged with raping a woman on a train outside of Philadelphia as fellow passengers watched, held up phones and did nothing to intervene, police said.

The man, Fiston Ngoy, 35, harassed the woman, groped her and eventually raped her as fellow passengers watched the assault through more than two dozen train stops, authorities said. Police believe no one called authorities, though they are investigating whether any of the witnesses may have recorded the incident.

Transit officers for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority stopped Ngoy at a train stop, finding him in the middle of his assault, SEPTA Police Chief Thomas J. Nestel said at a press conference.

Maybe.  I haven't seen the video.  I don't know if the woman was kicking, screaming, saying no, or just kind of taking it.  Maybe it's possible that line of the subway system is so messed up that the other passengers thought it was consensual sex between two homeless people?
