From what was written in various "biographies" on that subject, the entire tournament was a sham. Shamrock and Severn, legit fighters were not allowed to enter. Then once Steve Blackman entered it, no one wanted to fight him. Everyone started to back out. So they claimed Blackman was "injured" while training and could not advance.
Then Jim Ross set it up to bring in his cronie Dr Death Steve Williams to "win" the whole thing but Williams got legit hurt by Bart Gunn when all the wrestlers found out that the $100,000 grand prize money had already been paid to Dr Death before the second bout. Dr Death just so happened to be facing Bart Gunn in the second bout after the news broke that Dr Death had already been paid the money and scheduled to win. Bart drubbed him for real.
