When seriously bulking you don't count calories you eat until you throw up then you keep eating
-
when I was a kid (high-school) i would just eat my normal food, then added a blender-drink that john mccallum used to promote in strength & health and ironman.
properly called "the get-big drink" (didn't know what counting-calories was).
only thing I couldn't add was the ice-cream. parents weren't buying 4 containers of ice-cream a week so I could drink it.
needed the extra calories. back then we played sports after-school and every weekend in the neighborhood.
plus riding bikes everywhere, plus being on the hockey traveling-team.
non-stop movement. unlike today of course, fat-girls sit around playing video games eating twinkies.

I will say this about today’s protein supplement drinks.Whether you think they useful or not at least you can mix them up and drink them.Anyone who used these back in the 70s remembers how you had to use an outboard motor to get them damn things to mix up and then you still get powder clumps in them.

Stuntmovie knew him better than anyone here and I recall him talking about witnessing Reeves eating lots of prime rib (or was it steak?) and downing a few glasses of beer at a restaurant. Hopefully stunt will see this and comment on it as he sees fit.

Don Howorths diet, over 7,000 calories
-
Im calling 'typical muscle mag bs" on this information
Not necessarily!
These old-school guys ate extremely high fats in their diet, particularly in the form of red meat, whole milk and/or cream, and whole eggs.
So, getting 6000 calories was not that hard at all. They certainly were doing the chicken breasts, egg whites, rice, and broccoli.
With guys like Reeves and Howorth's training 2-4 hours a day, three times a week (the late Leroy Colbert swore that every-other-day program was the only way for natural bodybuilders to train), it's easy to see how they stayed in shape.
-
6000 cals is a lot of food every day.
I can't see Reeves eating all that.
Is he still dead?

I can pull it up but the diet described in his book was nothing crazy, nowhere near 6k calories.

Yeah, I remember it being boring, a standard very high carb, low-medium fat and protein thing. The big thing was his power drink for breakfast and a pre workout drink -
14 ounce of freshly squeezed orange juice.
1 tablespoon of Knox gelatin.
1 tablespoon of honey.
1 banana.
2 to 4 raw eggs.
2 tablespoons of homemade high protein powder.
-----------------
Pre workout -
1. 1/2 cup lemon juice
2. 3 tablespoons of honey (mix thoroughly until the lemon juice dissolves the honey)
3. 1/2 gallon of water
Also if the gossip in John Gilmore's Laid Bare is to be believed Steve Reeves -
"runs downstairs to the refrigerator to drink all the fucking milk and suck up a few raw eggs to get back the proteins he thinks he’s lost by shooting his little waddie.”

99% of people trying to eat 6k cals a day will get to day three then thats it, your digestive system simply cant process the food fast enough

Bro...

Brutal if true

99% of people don't need to eat 6000 calories to get the size they want. Plus, just like lifting the iron, you gradually build up that amount of food. If you're eating 2500-3000 calories a day, you'd bump up to no more than 4000 (more likely, 3500-3700 would do the trick).
And, to that end, eating high calories is far easier with higher-fat foods like beef, whole eggs, cream, and whole milk. You try that with chicken breasts, egg whites, broccoli, and rice; and it'll be all you can do to not murder someone.

Yes, as SCOTT mentioned above ....... I knew Reeves throughout his lifetime beginning around the time in which he was in his late teens.
I also Knew George Eifferman who was one of Steve's best friends.
Lots of old memories here ... enough to fill a book .... but here's a short version which may (or may not) be of interest.
It all started because Steve was an aquaintance of my dad's and I was a real young
when Steve game out of the id sitting on the water's edge of Lake Tamascal somewhere in the hills of Oakland.
Steve passed me by with a tap on my head saying. "Get big, kid!" and started a conversation with my father who was in great shape due to working as a lumber-jack "destroying" Redwoods in the Russian River area of Northern California approximately 70 miles or so NW of Oakland.
As time passed and I grew older I would run into Steve and his good friend, George Eifferman, and I'd simply say"Howdy" in passing little knowing that each of us would know each other better in the distant future.
Back in them god old days ..... an Oakland newspaper published an article about Steve as offered by his mother who claimed that Steve was somewhat exceptional because he "never had a cold nor a cavity".
Other than that .... I don't recall the rest of that article.
Back in rhe 1950's there was a summer resort on the Russian River called RIO NIDO which was the #1 vacation resort for families throughout Northern California ... and beyond!
On one summer weekend .... Steve and a friend who appeared to be what was known as a bulked up ODD-LIFTER (the term 'POWERLIFTER' was still non-existent)
joined up with hundreds (thousands??) of others at the nightly bon-fire among the Redwoods .... and for some unknown reason, Steve got sucker-punched and fell to his knees but as soon as he got back up, the 'puncher' had disappeared into the Redwoods.
My next run-in with Steve was a year or so later when I was dosing some heavy benches at the short lived American Health Studios and since Steve was there for a meeting which had yet to start , he offered a few words of encouragement.
And then Dilinger arrived along with Eifferman and ??? and the meeting started which led me to believe that it was an owner's meeting .... but the business closed down a few months later without an explanation and I never did ask Steve about it during future encounters.
Years later we invited Steve to participate as a special guest ....
More to follow if there is any interest.
Gotta head off to rob a casino!
Oh yea! Sorry, Scott! I'm bad at recalling dates and diets, so I don't recall what and how steve fine dined that week but ..... I do recall that he was pretty damn adverse about the use of roids back then .... and this was many years after his movie making years.

Didn't Vic Richards claim 8,000 calories a day of all white rice and chicken breasts? ::)

Didn't Vic Richards claim 8,000 calories a day of all white rice and chicken breasts? ::)
8000 - 12000 a day, averaging 10,000. Mostly from eggs, chicken, and rice, said he tried to keep veganish. Said he could get to 30,000 once and a while if he was eating dirty or high calorie. From an old question and answer -
"Q. Is it true that you consume 30,000 calories a day?
A. First to clarify this statement: I have never said that I consume 30,000 calories daily. My statement was taken out of context by a major magazine's quack editor who wanted to make a name for himself by creating a controversy. His original question was, "What is the most calories you've ever consumed in a day?" I answered that I had once consumed close to 30,000 calories when I ate Caribbean and African cuisine which can be extremely high in calories. I have never claimed to eat 30,000 calories on a daily basis.
This misinformation is just another reason why you should never believe everything you read in the magazine. I actually consume anywhere from 8,000 to 12,000 calories a day depending on my training exertion for that day."

:D Why is that fat pig dancing?
Because society enables these fat pieces of sh1t and makes them believe they're 'normal'.... I can just imagine the feckless parents misplaced encouragement
"Of course you can be a 350lb ballet dancer darling, you can do anything you desire... ... (except it seems putting the fork down you farking heifer!)"

I know - there's something about a fattie losing their dignity that hits a specific funny-bone (if you're evil like me of course ;D)

Did you miss the "99%" part? Victor Richards isn't 99% of people. It still doesn't negate the point that the old timers ate higher fat diets, making it easier and more plausible to ingest high number of calories.
And, that 8000 calories is what he reportedly ate at the time of that interview....WHEN HE WAS ALREADY MASSIVE!!!

So basically a ketogenic, carnivore diet. Good stuff. :)
