Hahahha now that is truly funny. I’m not a goat or a child so good luck.

I curl strict but what will you get out of this? Has loose form a place in my big Guns training?
Wes can you tell us?
-
Probably could get about 6 reps at 60kg/132lbs on a good day with a little bit body English especially on first rep which always seems to be the hardest on straight bar curls

I can hammer curl 90 lb dumbells for well over 40 reps

Heavy BB curls are a good way to fuck up your wrists. Make sure you use the EZ curl bar to help.
I think the heaviest i went many years ago was around 200 pounds. Standing with a little body swing.
I prefer DB curls and on a good day can curl the 80's while seated for 8-10 reps.

Impressive lifts. If you don't mind me asking how was your physique? Did you look like a bodybuilder, perma bulker, or strongman?
-
I always wanted to be able to curl 135 like a boss but 95x8 or something equally unimpressive was my max
E: to be clear, I never maxed out bc body English would take over and make it a bad lift so 5-6 reps was as low as I’d maybe go

That's incredible if true - isn't the world record somewhere between 250-300? Great lift, Rob!

Same here, PV.
I've curled 65-lb dumbbells for a half decent three reps per arm [while on cycle in 2006, if I'm not mistaken].
I've also curled 105-120 for reps...but I think arm curl strength is pretty strongly genetic, and it's the one lift that never really went up much past my early gains. Perhaps if I went up in body weight they would.
I was curling 85-lb on the Olympic bar two weeks ago.
I'm going to use perfect form this week and shoot for the "mind muscle connection", and do a final set with 95-lb, just to see what I can get.
But as long as my form is sound and focused, I'm not going to worry too much about the numbers - I'd like to bring my arms uota bit, and arms aren't that important for overall strength, so I think I will be training them mainly bodybuilding-style this year.

I've never considered doing a max curl, what for to tear a bicep. Stupidity!!

Yeah it's not a smart way to train.
-
Weird most are against strong big arms, I tell ya I have benched a little over 500 and I’m more proud of the curls over 200 than benching 500.
Also I’ve torn my pec and both calves but never a bi.

here´s the funny thing, i prefer an EZ bar for standing curls but on preacher curls a straight bar.

But you´ll max out on Deadlifts "deadz" so your comment holds little ground.

How the fuck do you tear both calves?

If you had calves you might understand

How the fuck do you tear both calves?
Funny actually, I was doing standing calve raises on the machine and the machine I believe went to 390 and I had a few 45s pinned on it and I was on my last set and did the 390 plus 45s for 10 or so then dropped to stack and then down 50 lbs or so on each drop and when I got down to 150 or so I was doing strict then half repos at the end and I believe it was my right calve that blew out. Now my right calve was always ahead of my left so after that I would keep training doing bodyweight one legged calves for the left and about two weeks later doing just that the left one tore.
-

I’ve tried straight on preacher a couple times and it seemed like way to easy to tear the bi so I stuck with ez bar on preachers or machine preachers, never go heavy on these either for This reason always reps around 20+.

well for me it´s about range of motion. What is your opinion on say Negative only reps on preachers? do you think this would save you? knowing the muscles are more stimulated on the negatives, is your opinion the positive lifting on the rep is the problem?

Slightly off topic, but what is considered a respectable arm measurement for a dedicated gym rat?

Every gym I’ve been to I’ve had the biggest arms by far at 20-21” except for any freaked out bodybuilders which isn’t the norm. so I’d say respectable depending on height I’ll just say 5”11-6’2 17-18” and that is rare. Most guys I’ve trained with in last 10-15 years are around 220-230 with 17” arms juiced. Also if a guy is 5’6 a 15” arm will look big so respectable varies.
-

Yeah. Robc isn't an ordinary gym rat by any means, but his arms look crazy big at 21"...the triceps in particular are gigantic.

perfect form... nothing like being oiled up & using no towel on the bench ;D

dropping the arms down to full extension is the perfect way to tear a bicep when you decide to pull it back again
Every single becep tear happens when the arm is fully extended

I tore my right bicep tendon 95%. I had to get it reattached, it was an unexpected seven hour surgery. Because of that on preachers I never go beyond parallel to the floor with my ROM. I won’t curl anything I can’t do at least eight reps with now. My ortho doc told me he would never do preacher curls, considers it the most dangerous bicep exercise. I love them, so I still do them.
Max on preachers is 125. Recline dumbbell curls are usually work up to the 65s. Standing hammers I go up to the 80s.
My favorite finishing exercise is a stacked drop set at the barbell rack. 8-100, 9-90, 10-80, 11-70, 12-60, 13-50, 14-40, 15-30, 16-20. Afterwards I can’t even flex my biceps without it locking into a cramp. Repaired bicep is right at 19 inches, my left is 18 1/2 inches. I’m 6’2” so I only consider it somewhat respectable.

Very strong and big ass arm, considerably above respectable. You got some balls to be doing preachers after that.

That's not how I'd position her on that bench...

When I injured it it sounded like a fat pencil getting snapped in half, instant pain by the elbow. Doc at urgent care mis-diagnosed a strain and had me do PT for four weeks, obviously it just got worse. I went back demanded an MRI and they found the tear. What should have been a 1 hour fix took all day as the partially torn tendon healed onto other parts of my radius bone and had to be scraped off and reshaped. Doc said I had the largest tendon he ever reattached and he was one of the the team docs for Cleveland Browns so he’d seen a few. I assured him it was likely the only thing on me that would be the thickest he ever saw :)
I don’t worry too much about the repaired one but always wondering if the left one will let loose. Also should mention I did 3 dexamethasone injections the year I tore it- powerful corticosteroid. Likely not a coincidence. Won’t do those again if I can avoid it. I have a friend with Crohns- he was on long term prednisone and detached both bicep tendons 100% at THE SAME TIME. His wife had to wipe his ass for three months that was a fucked up injury. BTW he tore his doing ……. Preachers
I definitely am suspicious of the corticosteroids

I have found that finishing biceps and triceps this way gave me improvements.
In fact, my arms were at their biggest when i stopped using heavy weights and focus on form and a good pump.
I haven't done a preacher curl in almost 10 years, they are one of the most dangerous exercises IMO.
Seems they add more strain to the tendons instead of the muscle. Seems like a silly exercise.

My doctor would agree with you wholeheartedly. I only like the preacher for the fixed focus it creates. Similar to doing flys on the crossover cables while lying “spider style” on an incline bench. Fixing my torso like that lowers my weight limit significantly, and seemingly isolates my pecs better.
I do limit my ROM on preachers but I am willing to concede your dislike of them may be well founded.
-
Preacher curls / spider curls have their place but i think you can build good guns with just standing barbell curls.
