Title: Is the new MD worth buying??/
Post by: Cavalier22 on April 26, 2006, 03:06:30 PM
Lately I have been thinking that I don't need to pick up MD any longer.  Seems like im reading the same magazine (and 300 pages of teh same ads) over and over again.

the ads are kinda excessive.  This month's was pretty uneventful, but there was a good interview with Wayne DeMilia in there.

I wonder what PDI coverage we can expect in FLEX this month? :)

Buy a coffee instead - and read it and Barnes and Noble while you drink it!  Works for me - and if it sucks, there is plenty of other stuff to read too...

MD has the most research and scientifically based articles on training, nutrition, supplements and drugs than any other magazine.  I don't know what you're talking about unless you're just looking at the pictures.  Bodybuilding itself is redundant = pick up the weight and put it back down.  The fact that MD comes out every month with so much real info deserves them mad props.  Ads are what support the magazine and what enables Blechman to PAY athletes for photo shoots, articles and their contracts.  The statement that the magazine is redundant or has too many ads is assinine.  Instead of complaining just stop buying it.

To me MD is worth buying. If only for laughs.

You can always count on Cormier to talk shit about someone.

You can also count on Gustavo Badell making at least one asinine statement that will have you laughing out loud.

So, because the activity of working out is repetitious the magazine should be as well?  That makes a lot of sense.

The fact is no one needs to subscribe to MD or any other body building magazine.  Anyone can get all the knowledge they need from 2-3 issues.  Beyond that, the magazines are little more than entertainment/soft core porn.  The photoshop covers underscore this point.  Why do you think they are doctoring those photos . . . in order to add to your scientifically based knowledge on training and nutrition? LOL

If these magazines are a form of entertainment you enjoy, buy them all you want, if not pass.

MD is always worth buying. The training articles are better than in Flex because they're jsut pictures and a dialogue between the writer and the athletes, as opposed to just an editor and a thesaurus. My favourite part though are the columns by the bodybuilders. They always let you know what's going on with them and give an inside angle to their world.

Before MD signed Branch Warren, I had to get by on only two articles on leg training in old flex mags. Lame . . .

I used could not wait for the new MDevery month now it's just like "ahhh
I need something to read on the can guess I will get it "   It used to be better now it the same old guys on the cover and the training articles are about the same guys as well.   Now that they have all these guys under contract I guess they are trying to save money.

R.I.P. MD !!!!

Instead of complaning, stop buying it?? I am only asking whether this specific months issue has got any particularly good articles.  This is a message board.  I can complain all i want.

"...yeah" "if think that is too big" and the guy was blushing... needless to say I never returned to that particular store again.

If Steve Blechman came here and outright LIED to all getbig readers... that would be HUGE.

There's no way the editor of MD would lie directly to the fans on getbig about something like this.

Id be willing to submit that cover to the forensic experts at Kodak, who routinely examine photographs for the FBI and local law enforcement to verfiy legitimacy.  Is Steve Blechman willing to offer the prints for submission?

I am sure he would be.   He explained it was a funny angle.  He must have other pics from that shoot as well.  THey would be very helpful to putting this terrible rumor to bed.

Steve, can you post a few more from that shoot, and submit that pic so that we can have it examined?  I'm so tired of people calling 'photoshop' to those explosive cover shots.

First of all, Blechman never said that.  Find the post.  It's not there.  ALL magazine covers are "photo shopped."  With the technology available today, there isn't a magazine cover out there - on any subject - that isn't photo shopped to look its best.  What I'm sure Cara was eluding to is that the physiques are not altered.  With Photo Shop, you can remove wrinkles, the little folds of skin that fold over a tight waist band, blemishes, you can fix the color, remove shadows, enhance the lighting, etc.  But to accuse anyone of adding 50 pounds to a physique is ridiculous.  I don't even think it's possible.  I'm pretty good on Photo Shop CS and I couldn't do it. No one else I know in the graphics biz could do it.  Can any of you?  Especially you guys who are so sure of yourselves, why don't you post a pic of yourself and add 50 pounds?

MD is probably the best hardcore BB rag out there.  Since it is, and since its editor actually post on here, then they are in for the monster critics who rule this board.  They should stay off of here like all the other mags.

I would like to start taking bets on whether or not that pic is altered.  I think $500 is a nice safe bet.  To the first 20 people that agree.  That'll be... $10,000.  SHould be a nice little profit.  I'm going to get Blechman to front me the cash>  Then we're going to donate our winnings to Shawn Ray's CHOC (Convertables, Hoes, Oxycontin, & CHeesecake) Charity

i say the new issue with Branch on the cover is worth buying. i think subscribing is the better economical way rather then buying individual issues.

No, it isn't. Since 1999, when Guy Gardner entered in a business association with Bob Kennedy, it has become a huge AD for MuscleTech. It is pathetic. Everything in there, from Greg Zulag's column to the "articles", is nothing more than a pseudo-sophisticated dissuation to sell MuscleTech supplements. That said, though, ulie does give some great advice on sauce. ;D ;)

The truth is, there is no magazine worth buying.  You've got to consider that they're all overpriced and brimming with ads so who in their right mind would pay so much just to thumb through ads?
