Title: The misery of the holiday season and social events.
Post by: BBSSchlemiel on December 18, 2022, 05:40:02 PM
The zoo-like atmosphere of stores and parking lots, the daily Amazon shipments, the goofy Christmas songs written by non-Christians, the eight-hour ordeals of eating, drinking, and doing small talk with in-laws and people one rarely sees, obeying the rules of older people, especially boomers, and so on and so on! It is maddening!

The same sort boredom and drudgery is in weddings, sweet sixteens, and other holidays!

Sometimes the boredom turns into full-scale irritability and rage!

I can’t be the only one!

I’m not bothered by church going, saying prayers, baptisms, and the taking of vows at weddings, all the serious stuff. Obviously I love seeing my children open gifts. It’s the obligatory social stuff I can’t stand anymore!

What, pray tell, are these so-called "rules of older people, especially boomers"?

The church crap is some of the worst. Its the same thing as Holidays.
People go thru scripted things like Baptisms, communions, etc because they are told they have to. (And many never enter a church again).
Same for holidays... Scripted perfectly by Hallmark, history, religion, etc.

It's almost enough to make you respect the Jehovah's Witnesses. Christmas used to be a week or two, then from the day after Thanksgiving, then Halloween and now they are advertising in September. Hallmark shows Christmas movies in July. ::)

Boomer rules? I Amazon a lot to avoid the crowds and piped in Mariah Carey music. Obligatory social gatherings? I’ll do one or two for about an hour , make a showing, then split.

I actually enjoy Christmas even though I’m a miserable bastard. I love giving presents to the kids, wife, family and mailman, trash man,bus drivers etc… this makes me feel good I guess. I always go overboard on Christmas. I do hide out when The wife has her family over Christmas eve and it’s prob 20-25 people, I always grab a plate of food and head up to my room for the night and have the kids refresh my plate a few times. Then Christmas Day I have my mom and husband over and the wife’s mom and I enjoy that. So I enjoy Halloween, thanksgiving and Christmas I guess. Anyways cheer up gents it’s the most wonderful time of the year. I’m actually pretty CONTENT at the moment haha.

Brutal. Hahaha

Currently Fortress is sitting at his gate at the airport. Going home for Christmas and New Years.

I don’t shop for gifts or anything. Couldn’t give a rat’s ass.

As far as get-togethers, yeah, not a fan. Feel like a schmuck and just want to ditch.

A few family members and/or friends and I’m good.

I wish all my Getbig brothers a Merry Christmas. You guys rule.

Most of you, that is.

Merry Christmas!

I don’t blame you for keeping gift giving and event attendance to a minimum.
