He doesn't have the show muscles. Probably can't even curl 130lbs strict.

When I was in University in Atlanta, I spoke with him many times. His gym on Ponce had closed by then and he had the one in Stone Mountain. Still came around for local shows and the likes. Very down to earth. One of the biggest losses the sport (as a whole) has suffered would be from the fact he doesn't have a full time podcast or a very heavy dedicated social media channel for himself. He has tons of knowledge to give back.

This is one of the greatest bodybuilding pics of all time. One thing I think a lot of people like about Haney was he didn’t have overpowering turnip legs. He still looked like a guy who could run and play sports.

The man interviewing was admittedly stunned at Coleman's candor and the speed with which he replied. Me too. ;D I admit that when it comes to competitive bodybuilding I am lost in the '40s to maybe the mid '80s and I think that quality of the "mass monsters" is rapidly declining but I have no idea why? Some say the PEDs are inferior "bath-tub" compounds. I agree with many here that Coleman would crush the recent competitors as would Yates. Jay and Phil? They would win but they wouldn't crush the other competitors like Coleman and Yates.
I cannot imagine weighing 280lbs or more as at my heaviest I was only 250lbs. at 6' 1" or so and it was difficult to get around, LOL! Of course I bet I had at least 20% body-fat. ;D

I don’t think it’s particularly close. You could argue Arnold paved the way or that Ronnie/Dorian took it further but Haney is the greatest not just for what he did on stage but the class act he was off of it.

On the issue of his legs, you have to remember when he competed that in that ear, that was the figurative ratio of upper body / lower body balance. There were no BBers around during his reign that had quads that looked like a MILF fake tit job gone bad.
Platz was on his way out. DeMayo was still out in outer space. Munzer (who had great legs in his own right) hadn't really caught on yet. Dillett had not emerged from the shadows yet. Coleman, Cutler, Kai, Branch, etc.. none of them were around in their peak.
If the judging standards back during Haney's reign had rewarded oversized quads, I have no doubt he could have blown his up a great deal.

I disagree with this.
He could have bloofed up for sure, but that would ruin his physique - wider waist, arms getting less proportional to torso, legs as well.
He was awesome, but I don't think it would have all grown like that - he'd never have arms like Coleman, for example.

I think he posed that way as his calves weren't overly strong, this was back in the day where you tried to pose to hide your weaknesses rather than just up the dose.
