Bodybuilding more mainstream back then. Once the internet pulled back the curtain on the drug use it lost all credibility with mainstream advertisers and audiences.

I have the episode with Kevin Levrone on tape, which I recorded during Christmas break in 1991.

I also have the one with Mike Francois from 1994.

Ah, the good ol' days.......having to wait until 0-dark-30 to record American Muscle on ESPN to find out the results of contests that occurred around six months earlier.

I didn't always catch WBF BodyStars in the morning, unless I programmed the VCR in my mom's room. I didn't have cable in mine. But, fortunately, a local UHF channel that aired pro wrestling also aired "WBF BodyStars America (the one aired in England) in the afternoon.

We had a 1-900 number to call to find out who won the Mr. O....otherwise we had to wait for eons !!

I believe that was on American Muscle, too: 1-900-PUMP-IRON.

That was the number used in 1991 (same episode as the one with Kevin Levrone) for fans to vote for the MuscleMania Grand Champion, the best of the 5 regional winners. It was Nick Sillette (Atlanta), Mike Francois (Chicago), Sal Princiotta (New York), Ted Lopes (Providence), and Dennis Newman (San Diego).

Francois got the most votes.

The 1992 WBF championship actually had a hotline for fans to vote for the WBF champion (1-900-454-WBF2), the proceeds from which was supposed to go to the Special Olympics.

Loved ESPN and all the shows and contests back then. Cory and Haney's shows were great and couldn't wait till the next episode of American Muscle was on.

McWay it’s cool you still have a vcr and VHS, I think we all agree you’re the most knowledgeable and biggest schmoe left around these parts, but do yourself a favor DOWNLOAD the videos from YouTube. Literally no one is ever going to ask to borrow the tape OR think what a cool fan you are because you have 30 year old vhs tapes.
