British Columbia recently decriminalization the possession of small quantities of hard drugs.
I used to think drug legalization is the way to go. Now I'm less certain about that. One issue my mind is that producers will become pushers - advertising the drugs, and tempting users - rather than just neutral suppliers.
Also, I think drugs being illegal sends the message that they are not to be condoned. Legalization seems to get people to think it's OK...as in, it produces a positive association/psychological effect.
Let's just say I'm less certain that legalization will work.
I do think all consenting adults should do what they want.
I mean, if someone wants to plug morphine up his ass this weekend, who am I to say he can't? :-X
Vancouver – Vancouver Police have arrested a man for drug trafficking in connection with an illicit drug dispensary that began operating yesterday in the Downtown Eastside.
VPD’s Organized Crime Section launched an investigation and began gathering evidence after the suspect started selling cocaine, crack, methamphetamine, and heroin out of a mobile trailer parked near Main and Cordova streets.
“We support measures aimed at improving public safety for people who use drugs, including harm reduction services and decriminalization,” says Constable Tania Visintin. “However, we remain committed in our position that drug trafficking will continue to be the subject of enforcement.”
VPD investigators have now seized two vehicles, body armour, and Canadian currency as part of the ongoing investigation.
The 51-year-old man has been released from custody pending his next appearance in court. As part of his release conditions, he is forbidden from returning to the Downtown Eastside.

In principle I like the idea of legalization and letting people do what they want with their own bodies. So if they want to be idiot meth heads let them. But in reality the taxpayers pay for their medical care and food and housing and all of that other stuff. And they end up shitting in the streets and causing crime. So I don't favor it because of the consequences. People can't handle total freedom when they know they'll be coddled by the state.
