I think not having same aged friends who share somewhat similar viewpoints to commiserate with is a big problem in this atomized society.  It's pretty surprising that people who go to gyms regularly are still pretty isolated from people who would put them on the right track or call them on their bullshit.  And romantic partners don't seem to serve this function for some reason.  Yes, this is probably about you know who, and I think a big part of his problem.
