That is an awesome home gym.

He seems a pleasant fellow.

Israetel is originally from Moscow, Russia.

Something about him that makes him a bit unlikeable. Some type of arrogance perhaps. Maybe it's the the look on his face. Never really followed his stuff because of this.

Probably made a lot of money on his internet fitness related stuff.

That’s exactly what it is. He’s goes on about splitting hairs issues like 6 reps versus 8 or whether a reverse pyramid is better than a pyramid and acts like he cured cancer.

He’s 5’5” so that explains a lot.

He has an amazing set up, but calling it a “home gym” is a bit of an understatement.  Whether you own or rent, at 2500sq ft I suspect most people on this board live in a space that is smaller than his home gym.  The size is great and the equipment speaks for itself!

I briefly toyed with the idea of setting up a home gym.  I have the space for an accessory dwelling in my back yard but a) I’m not that hard core b) I like getting out of my house to go somewhere and occasionally be social and c) simply outfitting and maintaining a gym could get very costly; I’d rather put that money elsewhere—like buying an income or vacation property.  Once you invest in a home gym like that you're never moving!

The last time I was looking for a home, I seriously considered this place...  It sits on two acres, fruit trees in front and a huge accessory workshop/studio space in back that could easily be a home gym.

True Bay, except for the "never moving" part.
Some of these guys moved huge gyms to new houses (more than once).
They just pay people to do it w/ their YouTube millions. (Juji Mofo, Brian Shaw, etc).

Maybe.  The building out back was described as "30 x 40 detached workshop/garage."  It was fully wired with electricity and lighting but no a/c (an easy fix).  At the time I looked at a lot of properties and this one made it into the top three.  I ultimately nixed it because it was too far from town... too far from my office... too far from my social life... no gym nearby.  It was described as "country living at its finest."  The zoning allowed horses, chickens, and farm animals.  It checked a lot of boxes, but it was just too far away.  This was all pre pandemic and I could not have known how often I would end up working from home (in the last month I think I have gone to my office three times).  Still the house was just too far away from things like the airport and my social circle.

The house I ended up buying is on a smaller lot (just one acre) but the house is bigger and much closer to where I need to be.  Still, I often wonder... "what if?"

What's around the pool? Glass paneling?

No.  It is screen. Glass paneling would create a greenhouse effect and make the area too hot to be useable.  Have you ever seen a screen door?  Screened cages around pools are very common in parts of Florida depending on the neighborhood.  It keeps out leaves, birds, insects, and other critters.  Depending on the neighborhood, without the screen many pools would basically be unusable due to leaves and wildlife.  Screened patios are less common on older houses…  or houses built close to the ocean as ocean breezes can minimize the need for them.  But if the house was built after 1980ish it likely has a screen over the pool as builders offer that as a popular option and buyers typically want it.  Adding a screen cage after the fact (or repairing one after a hurricane destroys it) can easily cost $15-25k.

In addition to the pool, the screen typically encompasses a BBQ area, outdoor kitchen, dining area, or outdoor shower as well.  Whether or not you have or want a screen usually depends on how many trees are on your property; eventually leaves and pollen will fall into the pool and create an unholy mess without a screen.

Easy to say that from your keyboard, but such notions often disappear when the contractor tells you how much it would cost to do that.  Who knows... maybe he ran out of money?  That often happens in the middle or near the end of a construction project.

That makes sense. Some people here put a fence around their pool because they're worried about kids falling into them. I've only seen that screen setup from afar and didn't realize that's what it was. I think the fence looks tacky. The screen doesn't look as tacky.

Jeff Everson wrote an article titled, "Until Pigs fly you don't have to be a scientist to be a bodybuilder."  He said some of the smartest and the dumbest people on earth have been successful bodybuilders. Pick some stuff up and put it down. It's not rocket science.  The worst people to take lifting advice off of are guys with syringes and pills. Notice they never yap about their advice when showing you what they look like six months clean.

I am guessing you do not own a pool home with small children? A small fence around a pool is essential if you have little kids.  Hundreds of kids die each year because they wondered into the pool and drowned when mom, dad, or the babysitter was distracted (on the phone, in the restroom, etc). Kids can move quickly when your back is turned and a “tacky” fence is a small price to pay to protect the most important persons in your life.  I think your view of what looks tacky may change as you get older, have small kids, and are fortunate enough to own a pool home.

Experience is the best teacher.  The trick is to benefit from the experience of others and not learn bad lessons the hard way.

A couple months ago I was watching one of those house-hunting real estate shows.  A young couple had moved to FL from up north and looked at several houses.  They had a modest budget and the houses they looked at were mostly fixer uppers.  One of the houses had a pool with screen cage that was damaged/neglected and in need of repair. The couple commented to each other that they didn’t like the cage and would rip it out and discard it if they bought the house.  I remember thinking… “these fools didn’t stop to think that the cage is there for a reason.”  They had obviously never owned a pool home before and didn’t notice the many trees nearby that would shed into their pool and create a huge and ongoing mess.  No one installs a screen because they are bored.  They do it because experience taught them that having one on that property is necessary.

Installing and fixing screen cages is a huge and profitable business in Florida—especially after a storm or hurricane.  Whenever a storm comes my first thought is not “will the power go out?”  Instead, I’m hoping that my screen makes it through the storm intact.  Like a weak link in a chain… if one panel is ripped open by a tree branch or other debris then the whole thing is compromised. :'(

Where I live a fence is required by law if you have an inground pool.
