The accident. It was about a #20kg jump over his best 1rm.

Must take some quality pre-workout to think you can suddenly do 45 lbs over your previous max.
-
That hard push forward to get the bar off couldn't have been good.

All joking aside, I never understood why anyone would wanna go so heavy on the squat or deadlift, why not use much lighter weight for higher reps?? Smh, anyway, I still don't understand how he died, I saw the video, he doesn't get crushed by the weight, he seemed fine, i'm thinking he had a heart attack?

Sounds like there is a lot you don’t understand.

You’re gonna see more of this as a result of Instagram and Tik Tok which are essentially enablers for pathological attention whores and narcissists.
Exhibit A: Jodi Miller, thousands of pic of herself flexing.

Ouch

Just a glut of these fools who have ZERO right to be lifting what they do.
The drug craze just makes it all that much worse.

No matter the weight and I always trained with what for me was light weight, I stayed in the squat rack. Anything can go wrong and it is much better to just sit down on whatever manner of safeties your rack has than to fall in any direction.
I will not watch this one as I have seen enough death in my life and do not need to see the innocent die because of ego driven stupidity.
-
I never tried going above 350 with a bar. (I have poor BB genetics)
On the smith machine I was more likely to push myself because it was easier/safer to bail out.

He died for us bitches the least you can do is give it a watch :D
In all seriousness one can adjust the safety bars and still squat slightly below parallel whist providing a safety stop from this exact situation from happening...I guess a properly set up squat rack was too amateur for this Darwin recipient
-
It was evident he was not in control of that weight from the moment he unracked it. Just stupid and totally avoidable. But hey you have to do it for the social media story

He has influenced me to squat lighter

If this is true then you’ve completely missed the point and this man died in vain.

It may seem like obvious that you use safeties when squatting but even those who use them sometimes don't use them always or don't always set them properly, for example not too low. There's also safety catches made for bench pressing. Who uses them? Almost no one. But then you use a spotter right? A spotter can do jackshit if you suddenly lose control, there is no time to react, you can catch the bar with your forehead or throat. Things can go very wrong sometimes even if you aren't a complete retard. I didn't watch the video but trying for a 25lbs PR with a spotter doesn't necessarily mean outrageous stupidity necessarily imo. That's something many or most have done at some time in their lifting career. I don't do it actually but then again I set up my own safety catches for example for the angled leg press if none are built in, even if using very submaximal weights. You never know if you might suddenly tear something or even lose conciousness or someone bumps into your machine. That's one machine where things might go very sideways and you end up a cripple from the weight crushing you. 99.9 out of a 100 never thought about that with the angled leg press and many people use absolutely ridiculous weights, probably more than with any movement ever.
Some powerlifting orgs use those loops in the monolift that can catch the weight. Even with 5 spotters that's smart imo, spotters are absolutely useless if you need to dump it suddenly, it happens too quickly, but many purists don't like this idea at all, it doesn't look good I guess. They don't use them in the IPF though in later years the benches have to have safeties.
