GUYS, THE OTHER NIGHT WHEN I WAS DOING SHOULDER PRESSES ON THE UNIVERSAL MACHINE, I WAS ABLBE TO PUT UP ABOUT 187LBS! I KNOW THIS SOUNDS KINDA CORNY, BUT IS THAT CONSIDERED A RESPECTABLE LIFT, OR AM I JUST STILL KINDA WUSSIE???!!! I WAS TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH MY BUDDY WHO IS BIGGER THAN ME. I FEEL LIKE A WHIMP SOMETIMES! HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK I SHOULD BE LIFTING??? I'M NOT REALLY A BODYBUILDER, I JUST LIKE TO WORK OUT.

after 3 months of training at 15 I was doing 205 on shoulder machine presses.. stick with freeweights!
-
dont listen to alexxx' strength claims....but listen when he says stick to free weights.
-
as long as you outlift your buddy you're allright
-
yeah, but bluto, my buddy is bigger than me! anyway, i was at the gym again today, and i was doing tricep presses with more than 1/2 the rack. ( i was up to about 13 or 14). it made me feel pretty damn good, cause bigger dudes that were at the gym were lookin' at me like i was some kind of roided up freak! if i really want to do it, i can blow others away!

You should always be able to do more on the majority of machines. Its good to mix them in once and awhile but def stick to free weights.

1st no frame of referance for what "1/2 the rack" is ? impressed if it goes to 300 lbs and your doing 150 but if it goes to 80 and your doing 40...
2. my guess is, in my experence if bigger dudes at the gym are looking at the kid lifting one of two things are present, A you at a gay mens gym or B your doing something so wrong and funny that they are taking mental notes to come back later and write on getbigs funny gym stories.
3.if your lifting so much weight that its easy switch to free weights and move to basic exercises and check your "power" against the norm there.
kids....

i have to agree with you on the prt about possible "fags" at the gym i lift at. one guy who works at the gym always stares at me. the other day, he winked at me 2 times. ( eeewwwww!!!) :P
-
That's a good start. Machines or free weights, whichever.

sorry to point that out, thats really gross to be minding you own business and have somebody throwing you the hunger looks. change gyms. gook luck

believe me, i thought about changing gyms, but this gym is open late. that's why i still go. (also, i just renewed my membership until june 2007.) they even threw in 2 months free. i uess if he tries to make a pass at me, i'll just punch him out! then, i can get thrown out of the gym, i'll get my $ back, (hopefully), and THEN, I'LL JOIN SOMEPLACE ELSE! ;D

How much you can lift is meaningless, unless you want to be a powerlifter
-
Its a respectable lift if you think it is! You are the only true judge of your gains...
Ask yourself these questions - Are you really putting out to full potential when you train, or are you just going through the motions and cheating yourself!
I spent 6 years in the Marine Corps and I know when Im really putting out and when Im not!
