It’s says that Platz placed 7th in ‘85. I thought he looked good there. Tough crowd

Outside of his back, he looks awesome there!  7th is definitely a low placing if I had to guess.

That was definitely his best shape since 81 and maybe even his best shape ever. He even brought up his injured bicep. Looked great there.

Looking fricking awesome there - !!
Carrying so much thick dense muscle all over.

An ATG for sure - should've had at least 1 Olympia win.

That's an incredible upper body for that era(and even today).  The legs are an absurdity in the best way.

Were the 6 ahead of him really that much better? Hard to imagine.

And I haven't thought of Huey Lewis and the News in decades  :D

Ahead of his time. His freaky huge legs would have scored much better a decade later.

Certainly not suggesting that but he should have placed higher

Freaky build yes for sure. BUT absolutely NO symmetry or proportion. NONE. He never did have any. Bodybuilding is supposed to be about that. NOT being freaky. I like Tom. Met him a few times. Great guy. BUT not what bodybuilding WAS about or should be about.  Now days though no one cares just vote for freaks no matter what. They have all these stupid classes so why not just have one called "freaks" and keep them out of the true Mr Olympia and other shows.

Actually at that Olympia, Yes.

1- that movie is compressed a bit. Making Platz look a tad bit more outlandish than he already is. I looked up other videos of the 85 O and he looked great but did not look as wild as in this vid.

2. Demey, Christian and Gaspari all placed ahead of him and all 3 were in great shape. The others were Makkawy and Beckles who were also in great shape. You could argue he should've been top 5 but everyone looked awesome in that top 10.

Platz looks unreal standing alone. Tends to suffer by comparison though. He's 5'7" or so.

 ???

Disproportionate, fine, but asymmetrical?  Can’t agree with that.  Anyways, Tom Platz set the standard for leg development 40 years ago and it hasn’t been matched since.  For that alone, he deserves “All Time Great” status

I actually thought his back was quite good, but the aspect ratio of that video is all messed up; it's hard to judge just how wide he actually was.
