i met Joe around 1986. i grew up twenty minutes from him
he came to our little gym and did a lifting display.
i remember thinking 'why is that old fart still working out??'
in retrospect he was in his 50s at the time, and i was barely out of
my teens.
he's been pulling those weights weighing around 150lbs for almost half a century.

absolutely this is a great lift regardless of age.

from what Joe told me and i saw in the gym..
he would pyramid up to a single on the squat bench and deadlift
every monday wednesday and friday.
his protege george was 260 (huge in the 80s) and looked like a
bodybuilder just training the three lifts.
when they worked out at my little gym it was the first time they did
pecdec or legpress. george was like a little kid with all this
'fancy equipment'
