Brutal sport.
Surprising it hasnt happened more often... Same w/ broken necks.
I was watching a game once where the local kid stepped out for his first college shift ever, went head first into boards, snapped his neck.
Quadriplegic for life...

Travis Roy was a promising 20-year-old hockey star. Then moments into his first collegiate game as a Boston University freshman, a freak accident drove Travis into the boards. A cracked fourth vertebra left him paralyzed from the neck down.

I just watched it in slow motion, and came to the same conclusion!

His left foot seems to swing up in the air for no apparent reason. I guess we have to see an alternative angle to be sure

I don't follow the sport.  Is there any reasonable reason for a player to raise his foot more than 2 feet above the ice?
