was chatting with Oldtimer1 about pistols & this was my baby the Browning High power which was standard issue for us, maybe better ones now but what do you guys use / Carry?
Before taking the piss out of the guy in the video, he passed 22 SAS in the UK & Later Passed the Rhodesian SAS . A very hard guy. He is correct in that the Browning was a beautiful pistol.

If you could find one today in mint condition it would cost a good buck.

Last time i shot one was in 2002. If i lived in the US i would have one under my pillow :) I was a marksman with it, probably not now though but i can still do a "Double Tap"

Funk is a good guy & not everyone has or must have served in the Police/Military. I just like the idea of being able to shoot pistols or other weapons legally as in the US. Guns are not for everyone but i agree with Charlton Heston ..

Those electronic sights are outstanding but hard to find a concealment holster for it. If you live in a cold weather environment I guess it would be no problem to conceal. I like to dress nice, no homo and I want to conceal when I carry. I gravitate toward accurate small firearms. Big guns don't fit that criteria of concealment. It's fun going to range with the electronic sight because it makes even average shots into good shots. I'm sticking with traditional sights. My only gun that doesn't have traditional sites is my Sig 365 SAS. I don't shoot it too well but in close quarters combat it should work well. For target shooting tiny groups it stinks.
I forgot my carbine has electronic sights. I use an AimPoint site on it. Batteries last five years.

Glock 43? I had one but gave it to my son in law for off duty whose department only lets them carry glocks. Unlike most other people I actually like the factory sites.

I have an old fashioned colt revolver 22 caliber cowboy style it's all I need for varmits that may try and get my wives chickens. If an intruder showed up, I would be pulling my dog off them. If my dog wasn't around I don't need a weapon. If swat shows up it's going to take a lot more than a fancy 1911 or glock style pistol anyway better off with an escape route out the back to the jetski quick.

Just watched this video. Seems just as simple as the Glock. Easy to breakdown and reassemble. What are the iron sights like?

it´s not bad but you have to have decent Marksmanship skills to be good with it, has a slight kick. It´s the only pistol i´ve ever fired so i have no idea about the Glock.
Looks like the British Army is now using a Glock 17 (video is 11 year old but i think they still use it) he mentions the browning which was my time :)

Why would a government arm their best-trained, most capable citizens? They’re more interested in control, not public safety. Less public safety and more danger in the streets = more government control and rights taken away

Very true.
Maybe it’s also a helpful tool for PTSD. Americans finish their service and then come home and still train and shoot, it’s like they still have a war to fight. Brits turn theirs in and never have to fire another a shot. Wars over for them I guess.
Dunno if there’s any merit to my theory.

In the US we have enough guns in private hands to arm every man, woman and child. If we were attacked the country on US soil would find a gun pointed at them behind every blade of grass.

Hahaha. It’s not 1941 any more.
You would be more likely to see a flaming homosexual behind every blade of grass, announcing their pronouns while surrendering.

I wanted to do some research on that when I was there. Besides Lee, I have a few friends that live there and one is an avid shooter. Before we left for Australia, I found at least 9 ranges in NSW. I do, however know that you have to have some sort of a government license to even use a range. I got to know a cop there and although he found it strange that Americans were allowed to carry in public he acknowledged that (of course like anywhere) criminals have guns but also so do some of the residents which he attributes to the reason why home invasions aren’t that common.

Maybe it’s the fact they don’t have a 13% problem like we do. Sure, random terror attacks, but not a sustained criminal element.

I think you’re on to something. If nothing else, I’m sure it cuts down the suicide rate among veterans which is quite high among American vets:
According to a report published by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in 2016, which analyzed 55 million veterans' records from 1979 to 2014, the current analysis indicates that an average of 20 veterans die from suicide per day.[7]

Browning hi-power is a classic and a great gun..but we do have better options now..the gun doesn’t make the shooter.
I have been shooting competition since I was around 9…30 years later I can tell you for a fact that myself or no one else in the world can out shoot a Glock, sig, cz, H&K or any other big name barrel. This statement is exclusive to handguns because it’s fairly easy to outshoot most production rifle barrels.
Save the weight and go with ease of use, disassembly, and reliability.

I’m assuming Bench means that after many 1000’s of rounds at the gun range the barrel strength is compromised… may crack or show signs of wear.

BHP OOB has feeding/ramp issues. Needs some ramp work. Also, the mag disconnect is weird and I don't like it. It's a gorgeous gun, but I would never carry one.

It's funny how for a lot of people, bodybuilding can be like some sort of gateway activity to some of the darker parts of life. Example: Someone I know well ran a small gym for a few years in the mid '90s, and being in his '20s he struggled to say no to almost any idea as it started off being exciting. (Coincidentally, the gym was pretty near a British Army Ordnance Depot - this is relevant to this thread)
Selling/injecting gear into people? Logical side-line. Bouncing/sourcing small security rings? Of course. Let someone film bespoke porn films in your gym (who later turns out to 'collect' guns)? Sexy...
But before you know it, it becomes - Deliver a bunch of old fashioned tasers to Blackpool? Er... Provide security for a big drop in Liverpool? Maybe someone else can... Got a place for these 3 Brownings while the Military Police lose interest..? Yelp!
Luckily my friend turned out OK - bit of a degenerate - but not a bad fella all things considered ;)

I have a mint Springfield m1903 , but id also love a glock, beretta handgun and shotgun, some sort of magnum or revolver, m249saw, a bazooka and also a nuke if I were allowed .

I mean people are always trying to buy the most accurate gun or upgrade barrels..the barrels in these guns people always complain “shoot all over the place”..no, you just suck! lol
Glock, sigs, H&K(which I hate..they all make good stricter fire guns, they are super reliable, and you will never be more accurate than it.

I've competed in shooting comps my entire life.
I can take a stock Glock 19 and smoke people with Staccotos, etc.
Just have to learn how to dial in.
My Sig P320 XFive Legion shoots like a dream. Much smoother than a Glock, but i can't deny the ability of a Glock in any way.

My sig p320 spectre comp had a catastrophic disassembly at around 800 rounds..it was at a class that some sig guys were also taking..I got taken care of and replaced it with a p320 max which I love.
The gun I carry every day now is the p320 axg legion comp, or my ported staccato p..both have Aimpoint acros…I can’t do iron sight for shit at 25 yards and further due to my eye issues from TBI

I have carried a lot of different firearms but my choices aren't what most gun enthusiast would chose. I know if you're fighting in the worst case scenarios you want to enter going first class but I carry just for self defense now. My top priority is concealment, good accuracy and reliability. In general I hate dressing according to carrying. I need a small gun. I alternate between the Sig 365 with conventional sights and a Smith J frame model 60. I have better options but it doesn't meet my desires of concealment.
It seems every civilian is carrying a duty sized gun with optics. They must wear over sized untucked shirts all the time.
Like you have deteriorating eyes and I rarely target shoot anymore. I just don't enjoy cleaning guns and I clean them to perfection after every shoot. I know I could get my skills back in a week by shooting a couple hundred rounds but I haven't in a long time. According to the Federal law I carry under I just qualify twice a year.
Regarding my deteriorating eyesight I bought a Sig 365 SAS. I thought the unconventional glowing big green sight would just be like an aimpoint which is an accurate easy to use sight. I find the SAS hard to hit with compared to conventional sights. I guess for combat and not for target shooting it has a role. I only carry the sig 365 with conventional sights now. It would take a ton of practice for me to shoot the SAS accurately. On an opposing view I know a guy that swears by the SAS sighting system and says he can't miss. Go figure.

I’ve heard of Sigs falling apart too many times to ever own one. I don’t shoot competitively or as a “fun” hobby. The sole purpose of every gun I own is to carry for protection. Glock can’t be beat.

The glock 43 and the Sig 365 are almost exactly the same size. I owned both. If I was going to bet I would guess the Glock would last longer. The Sig has a light years better trigger. I gave the Glock to my son in law who is a cop and his department only lets them carry Glock firearms. I might be the only person ever that likes the Glock factory sights. Every one swaps them out but I think for combat to 25 yards they are big and easy to pick up. The Sig sights are better for getting pin point groups. I use to be an outstanding shot but due to eye sight and never going to the range I turned into just an okay shot. I really should get to a range at least once a month.

I have both Glocks and a CZ, I use the G17 or 19 for comps but as much as I love my Glocks I feel the CZ is an over all better firearm. Just a solidly built gun. Just my opinion. Heavier than the Glock and less muzzle flip. The last couple of years I've been doing USPSA comps but this year will be switching to IDPA and will more than likely use the CZ for that.

Anyone try the Sig SAS sighting system? I had high hopes for it but I think it has a high learning curve and will never be as precise as conventional sights. I have used conventional sights for many decades and I had trouble with these. They get dim in low light but still usable. They cover a huge portion of a human sized target at 25 yards. Still for combat and self defense they might have a very useful role. I know the new electronic dot sights like Romeo makes average shooters into good shooters but add an extra dimension to a gun's size.
Anyone that is a good shot can hit a man sized target at 15 yards chest center without aiming. It's the ultimate speed. I see guys staring and staring using up too many seconds prior to letting a round go. They might have a good group but a bad guy that never shot a gun before would be sending 5 plus rounds in your direction before you got the shot off. Odds are one of those shots is going to hit you. That's where I think the Sig sas plays a roll. Quick shots on target at close range.

My FFL here in CA works out of his home, gets state and federal audits randomly. Said they come in and trash his paperwork everywhere then complain that it's not in order. I considered getting my FFL but after talking to 2 people that have them, backed out. Not worth the hassle.
