Title: Female Crossfitter’s Arms Explode
Post by: Lartinos on September 23, 2024, 03:41:12 PM
These people at the CrossFit gyms just trying to kill themselves.

“She got swole — and not in a good way.

A South Carolina woman had to be hospitalized after her arms “exploded” while she was doing pull-ups for a high-intensity Crossfit routine.

“I didn’t know what was going on,” Jessica Johnson, 25, told Kennedy News Agency of the distressing incident, which occurred last month. “I was definitely shocked and didn’t know that this could happen.”

Many here know anyone with rhabdo? I read about it regularly in English media but a few friends had never heard of it.

So stupid, they said she resembled the hulk with her swollen arms, right they look huge Hahahha. Tiny little girl arms and nothing more. Stupid cross fit pull ups.

had it twice, might be a 3rd I'm forgetting but it's nothing special. just noticed I was peeing what looked like Coca Cola. think they kept me for 2 days getting IV fluids until my kidney #'s were back to 'normal'.

cross fitters seem to think it's 'cool'. was more like a nuisance.

Yes, but there are levels to it. Mild cases were common in old Crossfit, most people just hydrated, and took the week off from training. Some had to go to the hospital for IV replenishment, tests, etc.... There also used to be warnings from Crossfit to watch people doing kips and GHD sit ups, because anecdotally, people would feel it after sessions involving those.

The most common descriptor of mild rhabdo was - "It felt like a bad flu", sometimes with dark urine for a few days.

Crossfit even for a time had "Uncle Pukey" and "Uncle Rhado" mascots, it was almost a badge of honor -

Edit - An old article Glassman, himself, put out when Crossfit was being blamed for a lot of Rhabdo cases - https://library.crossfit.com/free/pdf/38_05_cf_rhabdo.pdf .

But seems like it's no laughing matter if your kidneys totally crap out.

I wonder if there's something you could do before training like a retard to reduce the chance, like with nutrition or minerals or whatever. Maybe even insulin? Lol.

Now thst you mention it, I wonder if I had it once as I peed what looked like coffee grounds or cola as you say, freaked me out but it happened only on one or two urinations and then went away. It scared me at the time, I though maybe my liver was failing.

Dana Linn Bailey had it a few years ago and did a video about it.

I have missed your ailment reports. Bhank's are not as exciting and self inflicted as yours.

In her case was probably due to the natural trenbolone she was using.

Its not the "stupid crossfit pullups".....its stupid people and coaches that think they should be doing such high volume to be "cool"

I have seen guys get rhabdo from calf workouts....

That kipping pull up they do in cross fit can be dangerous with all the jerking. The purpose is to get more reps as fast as you can.  All their competitions are done for time so it leads to a lot of fucked up things. Seen them do body weight squats for time flopping into the negative.

Rhabdomyolysis can be fatal.  It's caused by high intensity and generally not volume. Cross fit is famous for it with the work out of the day of doing bunch of exercises for time. Extreme muscle soreness, dark urine, weakness and being tired.  Once damaged muscle fibers flood the kidneys you are far gone. Mild cases is rest and fluids. I have said for decades I rarely get badly sore.  Then I took off lifting for awhile early this summer. I got back into lifting with a leg day. I felt sick and my thighs have never hurt so much in my life.  It hurt to do every day things. Took about 5 days before the deep pain went away. Never had that experience before.

Any more dangerous than rings, bar, and uneven bars for a gymnast?  No, they are not all done for time so you are incorrect that it leads to a lot of fucked up things.  As far as flopping into the negative, are they supposed to descend over a 2 second time period?  How much experience do you have with it?

Rhabdomyolysis can be fatal.  It's caused by high intensity and generally not volume. Cross fit is famous for it with the work out of the day of doing bunch of exercises for time.  Once again, over generalization that is very off base.  CF is not 'famous' for rhabdo.  People were getting it WAY before it.  The 'pukie' and 'rhabdo' thing was a tongue in cheek kind of thing from the onset.  How many people in BBing talk about pukign with a leg work out and wear it as a badge of courage.  Think about that one before you respond.  Extreme muscle soreness, dark urine, weakness and being tired.  Once damaged muscle fibers flood the kidneys you are far gone. No, muscle fibers don't flood the kidney.  Rhabdomyolysis means dissolution of skeletal muscle, and it is characterized by leakage of muscle cell contents, myoglobin, sarcoplasmic proteins (creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, aldolase, alanine, and aspartate aminotransferase), and electrolytes into the extracellular fluid and the circulation. Never had that experience before.  my guess is you came back and tried to hit your legs as hard as you did before taking a while off.  That being said, you shit on CF for rhabdo...yet look what you did to yourself

If you want to keep talking shit about CF, get your facts straight

For prevention I think just staying well hydrated would be your best option. I don't think insulin would help any. Sometimes the simplest option is the best option.

The one certain thing is that getbig legend Brian Hankins will never get Rhabdomyolysis added to his ailment list.
