Title: Francois placed 2nd in Heavyweights at ‘93 USA
Post by: Royalty on June 19, 2025, 05:24:32 PM
Apparently Chris Cormier was very concerned when he saw Francois backstage. But his people told him to relax and do his thing. Cormier eventually won. But look at the size and conditioning of Francois

Mike Christian?

I remember the hype this guy had when he broke through. He looked really good. i was surprised when he kind of faded into the background the year he competed at  the Olympia.

Francois looked big thick dry and hard from all angles. His only real weakness was his rear lat spread, which was very very good. But he was never beating Yates in size nor Levrone or Wheeler on aesthetics nor Cormier or Cutler on balance etc. He was definitely top tier, maybe 2 or 3 inches talller and he could have won the big one. Crazy quads, arms, his back double biceps and most muscular were world class.

Newman got luekemia and had the bright idea to blame contest prep for it, then decided it would be a great idea to compete when it went into remission.

I hate to say this, but it looks like we don’t have the same taste in men and this upsets me slightly.

Bodybuilding in the 90s was so much better than every other time in its history. The striations and detail along with small waists, just my opinion but bodybuilding as a sport peaked right there with Yates in 93 and slowly went downhill from there.

We do not.  Dennis Newman was too standard looking for me; you can have him.  I could name a dozen guys that were much more attractive: Phil Hernon, Armin Scholz, Chris Cormier, Dave Fisher, Jim Quinn, even Greg Kovacs….

Francois was very good, only problem was his lats were high which gave him somewhat of a long waist syndrome. So his structure was just so-so. It does seem like a Mr O needs that back, historically.

I saw both him and Dorian guest pose in 96.  At the time it felt like they were pushing Mike as the next Dorian.  Don't let pictures fool you, Mike was impressive but not on Yates level.
