anyone else take cholesterol meds?
I got stuck on one called fenofibrate. Was fine, fine then fuk sakes muscle pain. At first i thought it was from the gym but it was my hands and everywhere, abnormal over the top muscle pain. Threw those fuckers in the garbage hope the pain clears up within a week. Easily adjust my eating to suit, I eat pretty well anyways. At 60 Id rather be pain free and if i stroke out or have a heart attack, well, I lasted longer than anyone expected

I got moved onto crestor, and the muscle pain was so bad, we discontinued it. It went away shortly thereafter.
Leaving the convo before ironat and such come in and tells us all the evils of statins.....

I've been on statins for 3 months and will undergo blood work on Friday to see if it's lowered my triglycerides and cholesterol. No issues at all! But doc started me with a low dosage to see how it went so if it's increased then maybe I'll see side effects. I've felt better and wife says I stopped snoring since I started taking them. I was very scared to take them since I read so many horror stories online but so far no issues.

Lose weight, follow a ketogenic diet, take berberine, stop statins and medications, do weight training and walk.

Statin Use Is Associated With a Decline in Muscle Function and Mass Over Time, Irrespective of Statin Pharmacogenomic Score
2025 Dec
We included 297 977 participants from the UK Biobank. Grip strength was measured using a Jamar J00105 hydraulic hand dynamometer, and the appendicular lean mass (ALM) was estimated using bioelectrical impedance analysis.
Continuous statin use is associated with a decline in muscle function and mass over time (25% decline in grip strength and 73% decline in ALM compared to never-users), irrespective of genetic susceptibility to statin response.

LDL-C does not cause cardiovascular disease: a comprehensive review of the current literature
In our analysis of three major reviews [Citation1–Citation3], that claim the cholesterol hypothesis is indisputable and that statin treatment is an effective and safe way to lower the risk of CVD, we have found that their statements are invalid, compromised by misleading statistics, excluding unsuccessful trials, minimizing the side effects of cholesterol lowering, and ignoring contradictory observations from independent investigators.
The usual argument in support of the lipid hypothesis is that numerous studies of young and middle-aged people have shown that high TC or LDL-C predict future CVD. This is correct, but association is not the same as causation. Few authors have adjusted for other CVD-promoting factors such as mental stress, coagulation factors, inflammation, infections, and endothelial sensitivity, all of which are closely related to LDL receptor abnormalities [Citation105]. For instance, mental stress can raise TC [Citation17,Citation18] possibly because cholesterol is necessary for the production of cortisol and other steroid stress hormones, and mental stress may cause CVD by an increased production of epinephrine and norepinephrine, which contribute to hypertension and hypercoagulation. The reason why high TC is a risk factor only for young and middle-aged people may be that mental stress is more common among working people than among retired senior citizens.
It is important to emphasize that LDL participates in the immune system by adhering to and inactivating all kinds of microorganisms and their toxic products and that many observations and experiments have incriminated infections as a possible causal factor of CVD [Citation21–Citation23], and our results indicate that there may be better methods than cholesterol lowering to prevent atherosclerosis and CVD.

Most heart attack patients' cholesterol levels did not indicate cardiac risk
A new national study has shown that nearly 75 percent of patients hospitalized for a heart attack had cholesterol levels that would indicate they were not at high risk for a cardiovascular event, based on current national cholesterol guidelines.
Specifically, these patients had low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels that met current guidelines, and close to half had LDL levels classified in guidelines as optimal (less than 100 mg/dL).

Not saying you are right or wrong, but one person's shit is another's wonder food :D
Won't come into agreement on what a great diet is even on getbig. Natural foods like animal fats, real butter and lard are wonderful, seed oils the devil. Fruits bad because of the sugar and so on.
I haven't "researched" cholesterol and diet that much but some say go on carnivore to fix cholesterol while many others say going carnivore or keto "predictably" was horrible on their cholesterol. Good for weight loss, bad on lipids. "Vigorous Steve" even said this LOL.
My mom was put on meds recently but she dropped it just a few days in, got some type of blisters on her inner lip. Doc had told her to not eat cheese or eggs. I'm pretty sure the egg myth was busted a long time ago, which she told me herself, besides she eats max one egg at a time when she eats them :D
-
I know an old guy who has been prescribed cholesterol meds for over 20 years, but he never takes them. I asked why he keeps refilling his prescription and he said he tried a couple a different meds for it and didn't like the sides, but the doc wouldn't stop about him switching to something different, so he just pretends the current one was fine.
He actually has something like 10 different medications prescribed to him which he doesn't actually take just to keep his doctor quiet.

No, they don't, but feel free to link the 1000 studies highlining exactly where they show "strong correlation." If what you claim were true, the cholesterol hypothesis wouldn't still be a hypothesis and 50%-75% of heart attacks wouldn't occur in people with "normal" or low LDL cholesterol levels.

I would replace much of the meat with fish. Have alot of salmon, mackerel, sardines in three for the good fatty acids.
And lean meat is better than not ofc., but if it's your main protein source I'd question if you really know how lean and if you know how much fat you get from that. Because it's saturated fats, which obviously is bad for your blood lipids.
-
I take 20mgs of Atorvastatin eod and have no muscle pain and it lowed my total cholesterol and bad cholesterol big time. Not sure if that means anything with all the shit I read but no matter my diet and cardio my cholesterol never went down.

Same dosage but I take every day. When I first started I noticed a bit of muscle soreness, then it went away. Lowered my LDL by 40%. Don’t know if that’s good for preventing future CVD, etc. but it makes me feel more confident about my health.

Yeah an 84 yearold man needing to see the doctors is "fucked". Survived 20 years without taking cholesterol, BP and diabetes meds they put him on.
He goes in for regular shots for some joint issues, some vitamins shots and some kinda ablation therapy, stuff he finds improves the quality of his life.

I’m supposed to take every day but I did blood work doing it every day and 6 months later doing eod and the results were almost identical so I fugured take it less for similar results just in case the statins are that bad for you. I don’t know what to believe anymore.

Next time, at least make an effort to understand a topic before commenting, so you don't come come across like a bigger idiot than normal. It's obvious you've got no clue what about ablation therapies are as you seem to be assuming there is just one type. There are multiple types and each involves completely different methods.
Also maybe you should consider visiting your doctor and get checked for dementia. I said "some kinda" not just "kinda". They mean 2 completely different things.
- "Kinda" is a reduction of "kind of" (meaning somewhat, slightly, or sort of).
- "Some kinda" is a reduction of "some kind of" (meaning a type of, or to describe something non-specifically)

So many Getbiggers on statins.
So many people in general on statins.
https://anhinternational.org/news/big-pharma-squeezes-every-last-dollar-out-of-statin-drugs/
Big Pharma squeezes every last dollar out of statin drugs
As journalist and healthcare commentator Bill Sardi indicated:
"It is said statin drugs lower the risk for a heart attack by 30% (relative number), but in hard numbers the risk reduction is almost imaginary, with only 1 in 70 high-risk individuals, and in maybe 1 in 300 healthy individuals, averting a non-mortal heart attack, and these imaginary benefits are weighed against the real risk for liver damage, memory loss, muscle damage and other side effects. Ask yourself how the FDA could possibly approve such a class of ineffective drugs.”

Yeah, a lot of different theories. EOD is a good idea seeing how it is a long acting statin.
Pretty messed up that there is so much confusion and conflicting information on proper treatment for health and longevity.

I'm simply saying there are different opinions. Trump and Kennedy changed the food recs recently and they have their own scientists offering "expert scientific opinion." It's often hard for common folks to tease out the "truth." I'm in that group too of course. From what I've gathered I agree it seems the panic over seed oils is unwarranted. "The science" does get things wrong too, things evolve, e.g. eggs and cholesterol. I don't often buy into huge conspiracies though.
BTW, for those tossing the meds, I know Citrus Bergamott has been claimed by bodybuilding forum members to help cholesterol. Of course, as another poster pointed out the retatrutide seems interesting in this respect. If hadn't had pancreatitis I would be on it.

I think a lot of the Citrus Bergamot hype in the bodybuilding community came via Dante Doggcrapp. In general fitness enthusiasts are pretty hostile to pharma options and Dante also feels he'd rather fix things with herbs than drugs. I think if a herbal supp works it's also essentially a drug so I see options on a case by case basis, whatever works, pharma ain't automatically bad :D
I've had some prostate trouble, weak stream LOL, and I saw Dante recently recommend a herb from Amazon instead of finasteride. I might try it :D

I used to be a big believer in going the herbal route and I tried many things for prostate, cholesterol and blood pressure and everyone of them did fuck all.wasted thousands.but everyone is different so might work. Good luck.

Unless Dr. Will Harris has confirmed it, I’d really suggest you look into the more common, but often overlooked, issue of pelvic floor tightness

You know what, I don't actually know what the issue is and your scenario is one I've considered but never got around to looking into it, whether there are exercises to strengthen the muscles and so on. Recently my PSA was normal; I was just always nervous about the fingers up the ass prostate test LOL. Perhaps they have other methods now :D

dont remember the numbers but I remember it said "panic high" lol
I just do not give a shit, i wont go back on the meds, let the chips fall where they may
heres the numbers from exactly 3 months ago
also test levels in there when i was taking zero trt, all i took was Status from Bluestar Neutricueticals

I'll have to translate that to the Imperial System because I don't understand metric.
I think this is right.
Your total cholesterol and test is ok but your triglycerides and HDL are whacked.
Maybe someone can check if I converted it correctly.
You can definitely improve this with lifestyle changes. You probably already did with what you've been doing.
Total cholesterol 5.14 mmol/L 199 mg/dL
Triglycerides 5.06 mmol/L 448 mg/dL
HDL 0.60 mmol/L 23 mg/dL
Test 23.66 nmol/L 682 ng/dL

Should you worry about high triglycerides?
https://www.health.harvard.edu/heart-health/should-you-worry-about-high-triglycerides
What causes high triglyceride levels?
Factors that can raise your triglyceride level include:
Being overweight or having obesity
Diabetes
Cigarette smoking
Excessive alcohol use
Certain medicines
An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
Some genetic disorders
How to lower high triglyceride levels
Many of the steps you should take to lower triglycerides are the same ones you should take to protect your heart and health overall. Your doctor will advise you of measures you can take to lower high triglycerides. Some of these steps may include:
Exercise regularly
Lose weight
Avoid sugar/refined carbs
Limit alcohol intake
Quit smoking
Get enough sleep
Manage stress levels.
How to lower triglyceride levels with medication
If you're taking a statin to lower your LDL, one side benefit may be reduced triglyceride levels. Depending on the dose, statins can lower triglycerides by 20%–40%.
The omega-3 fats in fish and fish oil capsules are another triglyceride-lowering option. For a very high triglyceride level, your doctor can prescribe a high-dose omega-3 medication.

https://www.health.harvard.edu/heart-health/should-you-worry-about-high-triglycerides
What causes high triglyceride levels?
Factors that can raise your triglyceride level include:
Being overweight or having obesity
Diabetes
Cigarette smoking
Excessive alcohol use
Certain medicines
An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
Some genetic disorders
How to lower high triglyceride levels
Many of the steps you should take to lower triglycerides are the same ones you should take to protect your heart and health overall. Your doctor will advise you of measures you can take to lower high triglycerides. Some of these steps may include:
Exercise regularly
Lose weight
Avoid sugar/refined carbs
Limit alcohol intake
Quit smoking
Get enough sleep
Manage stress levels.
How to lower triglyceride levels with medication
If you're taking a statin to lower your LDL, one side benefit may be reduced triglyceride levels. Depending on the dose, statins can lower triglycerides by 20%–40%.
The omega-3 fats in fish and fish oil capsules are another triglyceride-lowering option. For a very high triglyceride level, your doctor can prescribe a high-dose omega-3 medication.

My triglycerides got out of whack and still nobody's been able to explain why.

My dad’s triglycerides have been around 1000 for 30+ years. Also cholesterol in the 5-700.

I barely have seed oils or sugar, if any.
My carbs are moderate, but come from good sources.

Can adding olive oil lower cholesterol? That's another thing Danta Doggcrapp recommends. Says to put it into protein shakes :D
I remember macadamia nut butter was thing with bodybuilders in years past, as a better fat than peanut. I don't know a lot about fats so I dunno :D
A while back I read that pork fat was the 8th most nutritious food in the world, also heart healthy. Better than beef fat.

Just got back from the Dr. Did blood work and met with the Dr. Will stay on statins until my labs come back. Dr noticed I lost 15 pounds since November (lost 2 points in BMI). Said my diet was good (but ease up on the diet Mt Dew and ditch the potatos for sweet potatos). Said my 2 cheat meals a week (Friday and Saturday night dinners) are ok. Hopefully, the dieting and exercise and statins will have reduced my high triglycerides. To celebrate, I stopped by Dunkin Donuts when I left. Eating my glazed donuts now.

Good friend of mine died and he was 52 5’6 150 lean muscular, ate perfect and had perfect bloodwork and jogged daily and worked out. Dropped dead. So I don’t think anything matters.

My numbers came back and they're great!
Cholesterol was 220 mg's, now it's 141 mg
Triglycerides were 212 mgs', now 111 mg
HDL stayed the same at 47 mg's. Need to work on that
VLCL Calc was 39 mg's, now its 20 mg
LCL-C was 135 mg's, now at 74 mg.
Doc's gone on vacation and will follow up later so I don't know if I'll have to keep taking the statins. I'm not sure how much they really played a part in this. I feel like it was my change in diet (i.e, avoiding certain foods) and the weight loss that did it.
I had ZERO side effects from statins but I did take the lowest dosage. I avoided white flour/sugar for the most part and added more vegetables. I walked every day for 2 miles/40 minutes and lifted 3 times a week (deadlits, squats, bench presses, standing overhead presses, rows). I'll continue this but will tighten up my avoidance of white flour/sugar. I want to lose more weight and will see how my cholesterol numbers fare.

I’m in the same boat.
Doc wants me on cholesterol meds
It’s hereditary for me
I’m sub 50 grams of carbs Monday to Friday
Saturday will have one meal / dinner with wife nothing crazy
Sunday will have a cheat meal with desserts some cookies and burgers etc
Cardio 5 days and weights 5 days

Keep taking the statins.
Your doctor has a big monthly nut on his boat loan, BMW, and waterfront vacation home mortgage.
He needs those Pfizer residual payments to keep up.

Congrats.
Also avoid processed foods and seed oils if you aren't already.

He died because of too many 5's.

I only did the lifting and did cardio maybe 3 times a week at best. Terrible diet so that's why I don't think the statins really had that much of an impact. When you google how to lower your Triglycerides and cholesterol, its always about avoiding white flour/sugar. I'll see what the dr says about staying on statins. I'll be 60 the first of April (no foolin') so whatever helps my health I'll do. Wife says my snoring stopped the moment I began statins so maybe there's an issue. I noticed that I felt better once I started them.
